I was widowed at 25; remarried & divorced. I was in custody court from 2011 thru 2020. I was a single Mama therapist & spent my entire life savings to be able to keep my kids. I am 51, broke & can’t even buy a house as the majority of my adult life was devoted to my kids. My kids are grown now & I am truly starting over. Divorce is absolute hell

Same here. I fought for custody of my only child from age 2 to 11. Even though I got sole custody, it took seven trials and it cost me EVERYTHING I had. Today she is 23 and at gratuate school, and I cant believe that I survived that. Blessings to all of you ladies❤

They both have to take accountability. I think he just went to far at the end but if you followed them you know they were both toxic. In fact, in the beginning everyone felt she was toxic and controlling then he turn coo coo when he pulled all into her and was left financially dry. I think may people are forgetting how she was controlling at first but then he turned the tables! She literally was on their show bossing him around about what food they could eat, finances and everything with the child etc. Then she wanted him to just start over. I guess he lost it. I remember it from the beginning!!

I was there from the beginning too & he most definitely had an ulterior motive. I didn't like him from the get go. He knew how she was before marrying her. She even told him! He psychologically tormented her & it wasn't bc of her ocd ways either. He uses their child as a bargaining tool... enough said.

I divorced my ex after 25 years.
I worked as a receptionist for a divorce attorney prior to my divorce. I quit because the guy was a narcissist, belittled me, screamed at me daily. My ex hired him as his divorce attorney to spite me. I hired a female lawyer who I met when I worked for said attorney. She too left that firm because she couldn’t stand the guy and didn’t want to be associated with him. In the end I got everything I asked for and she charged me next to nothing. I relished in the fact that my ex spent thousands thinking he was doing something hiring the narcissistic lawyer to spite me and he didn’t gain a thing. The laws the law and I was entitled to everything I got.

There is an Australian journalist called Jess Hill. She wrote a book called See What What You Made Me Do: Power, Control and Domestic Abuse. A friend recommended it to me and it made everything that was happening to me make sense. Domestic abuse doesn’t only mean physical. Emotional, financial, coercive control are serious forms of abuse that are only recently being addressed. Highly recommend this book

My daughter’s safety and mental well being was much more important than divorce papers! He wanted to remarry someone so he persued the divorce, my lawyer managed to use he not having visitation with my daughter in order for him to not have to pay back child support and Alimony ! He agreed ( apparently money talks). We were poor but in the end we were free and safe ! Divorce and marrying the wrong Man really sucks ! It has lifelong affects ! We had no kids so there was no custody issues or anything. But it sounds like you, like me, had a sociopathic narcissist at the other end of the versus, good luck! They will drag that sh*t out for as long as they can, filing injunctions just to file injunctions. It's a racket just to claim your freedom from someone. Keep these coming it's an important topic!!!

So there are only a few 100 thousand bears vs millions of adult men……so…… I mean….. we don’t live under the same roof as a bear. FYI, if a bear cub is killed or dies, its mother will eat it. Humans don’t do that. Bears will eat other animals when they’re still alive. Humans also do that (now). It’s a silly argument you’re making.
Next time you need an emergency service, ask for their bear department to help you.

Sadly, Virginia has become more of a pro-father state under the "guise" of being in the best interest of the child. In most cases, the mom is doing all the heavy lifting of taking care of the child while dad gets to be a Disney dad because the courts cater to him in Virginia. It's a bad system.

Child Psychologist, court ordered how to co parent classes because he was so disagreeable, failed financial mediation, 3 year divorce ending in a 3 day trial that did not go well for him and then he filed an appeal and tried to fight me some more.
It was awful, landed me in the hospital at one point with a possible heart attack from the stress and tbh, I don't know who I was happier to get away from at the end. Him or my attorney who was good but a bitchy, older woman, who was verbally abusive and who nickel and dimed me to death. Worst experience of my life and I've been through some tragedies. I swear I have ptsd from it all still. Finalized in 2018

It is heart wrenching, scary, and yes -- becoming my own detective. There needs to be soo much more support for women. It's called "Trust" -- you trusted in love, in your partner. Smart women are "duped" often because they don't suspect anyone could be that unstable, calculating, manipulative, etc...

Divorce #1: we were so lucky - we did a "do it yourself", using forms bought at Office Max. Very difficult in a different way - he is a very nice man and although I initiated it, it was almost harder because we didn't have horrendous problems. But it was time. In fact, I found a new wife for him and they're still married, today. Divorce #2: I never knew about tremendous abuse until I married this person. Took me 2 yrs, start to finish to get rid of him AND get all of my stuff back. There will be no other divorces because there will be no other marriages. I'm so done.

I pray for you and how you handle your grief & bringing up old demons. I pray for your daughter. You have this God shaped hole inside of you (just as every single one of us does), which can only be filled by Him. We will never be fully satisfied on this side of the veil. But, we can have happiness. Reach out to God. Lament to Him. Read the Psalms. They are all about lamenting. God is big enough to handle any repressed anger you may have towards Him. Just try it. It only takes a mustard seed size of faith. He will grow your faith, but you must believe. You must believe. Cry out to your maker. I'm writing this from a place of love and I hope you read this and try it.

It broke my heart when you said you believed at one point that your life would be miserable forever as I felt that with you at points in RHONY episodes where you opened up and became vulnerable. Bethenny, you are always such an inspiration for all of us. Thank you for all you do and sharing your incredible life with all of us.

Litigation abuse is real. I spent over 40k and stiiillll making payments to my Atty. I only make 38k a year. Terrible that judges allow this to happen. I had my own successful business and had to sell to pay my Atty fees to just get to court

It depends on the person Bethenny, I have never been jealous of others success, the other way around actually. Success is available , but not everyone can achieve the same level as others, it’s just fact. Like fitness. I will never be an Olympian, or even close, but I’d be proud I knew one.

I went through a hard divorce 10 years ago - I have been happily engaged for 9 years- I told my guy I’m sorry no one is ever getting paperwork on me again. I have a solid will giving everything to my sons and everyone knows about it. My attitude is - while it’s good that’s great and if it’s not it will be easy 🎤

I never, EVER wanted to get married. I met someone amazing and she asked me to marry her. I said "yes!" happily. When I met her, I had been doing oxy's but was still very much a functioning adult. I had a full time job, etc. Eventually, she started doing them too and we moved to heroin/fentanyl. We married in August 2014 and by April 2015 she was moved out and we were separated. I was completely devastated. We had nothing so it was a super easy divorce but we didn't actually divorce until 2021/2022. Now I'm engaged again and I'm nervous! I'm sober and we have a beautiful son together but I'm still nervous.

Where is part 2 to this episode, can someone kindly send the link or post it up.please? I really need this extremely helpful advice and tips, no one helps your completely lost and lawyers and just making money off you, you have to even battle the lawyers sometimes for over charging you and also taking advantage of you. Please, Bethanny, please make more videos, I truly love your advice. All your advice is truly helpful. MAY GOD BLESS YOU, and give all of us peace and decisions making and access to our children ---Ameen

When working on your custody agreement, don't just focus on the here & now, make sure to consider the future & how your children's needs could change. Every detail matters, ie., location & who drops off & picks up, etc. Otherwise, you pay to go back to have it amended. By then, it'll be way more difficult to tailor it to yours & your childs needs.

I think we really need to get real about our expectations from another person, no one is going to be the best at everything. If you end up in the divorce lawyers office you ARE divorcing the person you married (not who you thought they were or should be) throw off the rose colored glasses when getting into it, and NEVER ignore the red flags of abuse. Understanding the harsh truth of relationships has to be taught. You should have Sexton on the show.

  • @claremagyar1747

He is all nice till it goes sideways and then when you say you are done with the marriage, be prepared to see a side of a man you have never seen before!!!! They will use mind tricks and money and control to try to break you!!!! You hit some kind of the mans ego that you don't want to be married to them anymore!!! Be prepared to fight!!! ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS DO A PRENUP EVEN IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANYTHING!!!

Can you share some examples of what your ex did to drag this on for ten years? I don’t necessarily understand how that happens. Or what was the most hurtful? I see that you can speak about it now with a different lens. But the lawyers do the talking/fighting and the process isn’t about your personal disputes. I 110% understand how hard it was. I guess I don’t understand how it was able to go on like that.
