It's valid that we can't retire here, we are moving because CA decided we can't buy small gas engines. Having our business as gardeners that rely on mowers, blowers, etc we are leaving. Yes, they sell battery equipment. Whole other debate on that. Of course it's fabulous here, but not everyone can change careers at retirement age. Having a home paid off is a smart move for us. It's easy to say you dont know why people leave if you can have an affordable life and it all works for you.
ELA teacher/dyslexia etc. YES! I am so glad you asked that questions. I always tell my students they can read with their eyes, ears, or finger (braille). We would not tell blind people they were not reading.

I so enjoyed this podcast! Glad you have started up again! My husband and I are both close to 80 years old and have decided to move from Washington State to Arizona for health reasons. We have done some serious decluttering because it's expensive to move things that can be replaced after we arrive at the end of our move. Mostly we are moving sentimental items. Absolutely listening to a book counts as reading it. I've always been an avid book reader, however, now that I'm a senior it hurts my eyes to read, so I listen. In truth it's like being a kid again and having your parents read to you. I love it.
I have a traumatic brain injury and can no longer read books and comprehend them, but I can listen to a book on audio. So I sure am thankful for audible and libraries like that.
@@lbjsweetp Yes, my world would be in black and white without the adventures books take me on. I'm so sorry to hear about your injury. But, so happy you've got tons of great books to listen to. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love reading, but I now have an eye condition that limits how much I can use them. So I embrace audiobooks. Yes, audiobooks count. I am very grateful for that option so I can continue this hobby.
I personally say yes listening to an audiobook counts as reading it! As someone who is dyslexic this is one of the primary ways I read books. Growing up (and still sometimes today) I would listen to books on tape/audiobooks and reading along with the actual book while listening. By reading this way I am able to process and understand what I’m reading.
I have a dyslexic son. He’s 12 now and can read but it’s sometimes a slow process depending on the content. The mechanics of reading can be super difficult for someone that has a focusing issue. His brain moves so fast so visual reading can be frustrating. Listening to a book also transports him into the book world and his mind enjoys it as much as those who always sight read their books. Open your mind to considering reading an experience for your brain, not just an exercise for your eyes. Reading in whatever form works is beautiful ❤
Awe, just watch Jana's little house episode. I am a grandma now and watched you kids so long ago...back to back family. Nice to see you all. Thank you for sharing.

Yes! Great questions! I would love to know these things too! Also, has Jinger picked up soccer or any other sports? Do they play any sports/do any other activities as a couple?
Well reading a book is reading it. Listening to a book is listening to it. Its just 2 different forms of consuming the information. Edit: I cant say I read a book when it wasnt me actually reading it. If somone is reading to me, Im just listening, not reading. When parents read books to children, they cant say, "I read the book" no, they listened to someone reading to them. Congratulations on your move!🎊
Agreed I think it’s a lot different reading in silence it takes some work in a sense we often don’t get quite time these days. But I think audiobook’s are very informational and have a lot of the same benefits as reading.
I agree with Jinger, as long as you're actually tuned in to what is being read aloud you'll still have that same kind of visualization in your mind, just as if you're the reader.
My son is severely dyslexic. He’s only 10, but he struggles so bad with reading. My husband’s uncle has PCA (Benson’s syndrome) and he has lost his ability to read. Listening is a huge tool for them and how they read a good portion of them time. What if you lost your vision? Would you count it as reading then? I 💯 think that audiobooks are reading and are such a blessing that these groups of people didn’t have even a generation ago. Some people don’t do well listening or are unable to hear, so those people should read the actually book. Whichever way you absorb it better…so listening absolutely counts as reading.
I have raised garden beds in my backyard. The kids loved helping making a garden every year. they would get so excited when it was time to pick everything. Once you get started it gets easier. There's nothing like having fresh vegetables from your own garden, knowing that they do not have any chemicals and that they non-GMO makes it all worth it. We always have enough to freeze for winter too. So nice to see you too again!! Keep up the good work.
Yes listening to a book is reading a book. I used to not think so, but then I realized that leaves out anyone with learning disabilities, visual imparement/blindness, and auditory processing issues, among other things. They are still getting the info, and they get to learn and explore the world in a way they wouldn't be able /would be harder to do otherwise. And for people who can read a book with no impairment or disabilities to make that harder, they still should be able to learn and get the info when life is busy and you need to multitasking or relax and take a break.
Yes, listening to books counts as reading a book being able to listen to a book is great thing in my life because I’m visually challenged so I can do more books and enjoy and ginger. I love it when I can hear you and your sister‘s voices in the story that was awesome and you know that goes for any other audiobook. It’s enjoyable because it’s read by the people that it’s about, so that’s awesome and yes, it is the same

Glad to see you back. I used to listen to your podcast back in 2020 when my husband was deployed and I was isolated with my toddler. I really enjoyed listening to you.
I remember when her sister's came out and I believe her brother or a few of them helped you move and the girls helped you decorate. I believe that is where his books ended up in a closet. Can’t wait for the house tour. I moved every year to 2 years till I was 36 after that 3 times. I hate moving but I do love how a new house gets organized
I love that your family still shares. I have watched you grow up. I love the family life. I am getting ready to ready your book "Becoming Free Indeed".
It definitely counts as reading a book. I have three kids grown and 5 grand kids so when I am in my car I listen always to some type of either book or podcast . That is my only real down time between work and the kiddos so I love to listen in my car and I for sure count that as reading the book.
I have loved listening to books on audible. I count them as reading. Especially because I work in the valley and live in Santa clarita, the drive can be long. So, I feel like I use that time wisely. I'm glad to hear you're committed to LA because there is no place like this. We tried moving, and God simply said to us, "NO! I'm so glad we didn't.
I love audiobooks especially when I drive back and forth to LA from Conway, AR. That’s where I discovered “Becoming Free Indeed” and listened on one day of the dative, then followed up with “The Hope We Hold” the next day. I also listen to the Bible and do my daily readings sometimes by audiobook, and sometimes I read along the Bible while the audiobook reads it to me. I’m getting the content. I learned later that I was driving home to Arkansas from LA, listening to your books while you were in Arkansas for Jana’s wedding. The books are wonderful and God has used your experiences to speak to me.
Absolutely, listening to books is the same as reading. I'm an older person and my eyes do not do well with print. Also, it puts me to sleep to read. But listening work well. I especially like listening in the car or while I'm grocery shopping. I've never "read" so many books as I've read in the past 4 years.
I'm a life long reader and audio book listener because of my grandma. She's always been an avid reader and, when she lost her sight in the 70s, audiobooks became her reading eyes. ❤
It sure is. We’ve moved 4 times in almost 8 years. Twice in California, then Houston Tx and now NC. BUT thankful for the opportunity to travel. I will always be a California girl and would love nothing more to go back.
Yes, Audible or whatever platform you use, to read books…counts as reading a book. My daughter, brother, dad, all have Dyslexia. And, yes, they can read out of a paper book or Kindle but it’s a challenge for them…so for some books, it’s great to have Audible. So grateful for this format. 😊
Audiobooks - It's ear reading ;) We utilize it very often with 2 kids with profound dyslexia and I love they can still enjoy a story without the struggle of reading being such a struggle! I "read" while doing my walks and gardening and love the multitasking and how it gives me joy while doing dishes and laundry!
Yes, I'm getting more audio books.......if it's background noise, I may need to listen again. Like with your and Jill's books. Anyway, thanks for the video. Glad you're not leaving LA if that's where your home is. And your solution with homesteaders, yes, I do the same thing; try to buy as much as possible from farmers markets; especially fresh fruits and veggies, and homemade spinach pasta.....Anyway, have a lovely blessed day
Audible is reading a book. Otherwise I couldn’t count it as read on Good Reads or Audible. I read Jinger’s book and appreciated her voice and inflections while reading it. Thank u Jinger. 🇨🇦 ❤
You just had a home tour and now you've moved. The two houses look completely different. Contemporary vs old world. We moved so often (when I was growing up) I have trouble settling down. Thanks, guys
I agree that audiobooks are reading, yes you can zone out, but if you enjoy the story you can listen to it again and catch what you might have missed. I have a few book series that I will listen to over and over and see what i missed the last time.
This video is encouraging to us! We are about your age and moved our family of 6 from Minnesota to Florida 9 months ago! My husbands 1 of 10 and his family also followed Bill Gothard so we have a lot in common with you guys 🤍 if we ever met I feel like we could talk for literally hours! Congratulations on your new home and God bless ya’ll!!
I love listening to an audiobook. It keeps me on track but I have to follow along as it reads. Children with reading disabilities can comprehend better listening.
Yes listening to a book counts the same as physically reading a book as long as your getting the content it doesn’t matter how you get it paper book, ebook, audiobooks it’s all the same
Hey teacher. As someone whom always only read books; happily growing up from the mid 70’s. I would always have to go back and reread when my mind wandered. Audio. Which I didn’t start doing until 3 yrs ago. About like watching any tv series with my husband. I take it all in. Absolutely everything but because it’s tv and audio I can be doing 3 other things and still hear exactly what is being said/happening. It’s amazing. And yet. I love those options but none will replace a real live book to me. Not my kindle or audio or tv.
Audio books definitely count! I’m a big fan of them, because I enjoy reading, but don’t always have the time to sit with a book. I can listen to an audiobook when I’m folding laundry, doing dishes, or driving and learn so much. I think I actually ended up getting Jinger’s audiobook after I got her book, because I was finding it hard to sit with the book when I had so many things going on. But, I was able to listen to it in just a couple of days.😊
CONGRATULATIONS… so happy for you. We are in the middle of a remodel in our kitchen too. It’s hard to go through but a lot of fun at the same time. I have lived in CALIFORNIA my whole life, we pay for our weather. Hahaha…. Glad you love California…. 🌴☀️🌷
Listening to an audio book definitely counts as reading it. Sometimes, I do zone out briefly but I just rewind and listen to that part again. There are a lot of mundane things, like housework that go much faster with an audio book or a podcast.
I’m in the middle of your audiobook, and I love it because I have a 40 minute commute every day! I wouldn’t have had time to sit down and read it so THANK YOU for reading it in your own voice. It would’ve been weird for it to be someone else’s voice.
Oral storytelling long predates books, therefore, I believe audiobooks are a valid option and count as reading. It gives a different perspective and a different experience. Both methods are important!
I listened to the audio version of Jingers book, and it made it more alive and personal for me hearing her reading it, felt like she was really speaking to me. And I really enjoyed her book, i would read it again when im able to buy a physical copy
Can’t wait to see the new house and all the upgrades on it. Also, yes audio books count as reading. As a busy mom I look forward to my book “reading” while cooking and doing other chores. I do get into it and really concentrate on what’s being read so I think it counts. 😉
I love hearing about your family, can't wait to see your new home please show us the renovations as you go it's lovely to see a house become a home. Looking forward to your next video, soon I hope
Oh for sure audiobooks is reading books but i do actually tell people i listen to books. I've always read books but now I'm older the eyes are not happy with reading. That and the fact that library or other older books make me sneeze and give me sinus attacks so THANX JINGER and folks like you for taking the time to read to me❤
From KC, MO and I work in a library and we totally count listening to audio books as reading books. Especially for the kids reading programs but audio books totally counts! Yes are brains can wonder when listening to an audiobook but that can also happen when I’m trying to read a physical book. So it all counts! Just like a parent reading to their kids or family counts also!

Lol😂 despite the traffic, smog, fires🔥, earthquakes, cost of living etc.. I love Los Angeles California too, born and raised 💙⚾️💙💜 & 💛🏀💜💛 My work moved me to Dallas for 3 years. Couldn’t wait to move back home! Lol
I got married and moved to the Southern California area. We bought two homes while out there, sold the first one to buy the second one. We loved our home. We both had jobs and ran a small business 48 hours a month. We lived through two huge earthquakes while we were there, the Sylmar and Northridge, we had no real damage to our homes during the quakes but we really didn’t want to be in another quake. Sadly our marriage ended and I moved back to Texas, and if I had it to do over, I would never have moved my children away from their grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. They miss out on so much and they can’t make up for it. I missed out on being with family too. Husband didn’t really have a close relationship with his family. I didn’t hate California, there are many things to love about it, but Texas was my home, and I love being back here. The first summer back I just fell in love with how green all the lawns were, the landscaping just filled my soul with happiness. By summer in the LA area, everything is brown, it seldom rains in So Cal in the summer, of course homes and businesses did water their lawns, but traveling outside of cities, no beautiful landscapes just lots of brown stuff. And we had fires! The first or second year we were there fires surrounded our town, it was pretty frightening to us, neighbors weren’t worried at all and made fun of us newbies. So I miss my beautiful home, landscaping, but not the fires, floods, and certainly not the earthquakes! Here we have thunderstorms, hailstorms, ice storms, lightning, tornadoes, too much traffic, too many houses being built in rural areas, high temperatures, crime, so it’s not a perfect place to live, but like the saying goes, you can take the girl out of Texas, but you can’t take Texas out of the girl. I’m happy to be back, two of my children live very near me, and my third child, an adult was killed by a hit and run driver about 14 years ago. Live is not perfect no matter where you live! Just try to live your best life. 😊
I so agree. It would be very hard for me to live and raise my children in an area like that, despite its beauty and the weather. But obviously the Vuolos don’t mind. I wonder how they plan to shield their kids from all of the terrible influences there?
I love California. I was born and raised in Anaheim on and off most of my life. I would drop everything in a minute to move back to California if given the chance. California is home to me
Reading vs. listening - yes, both are intaking info. I actually have done both on the same title and will get different things depending on the format. I have one mystery series that I like that is in English but interspersed with French. I have the audiobooks, my husband has the physical books. I know how to pronounce everything, he knows how to spell it. We confer with each other for the 'full experience.'
I definitely have a mixed feeling about your question about audiobooks/actual reading. When I as working full time plus kids I did missionary books from my church on cassette tape( aging me lol) otherwise I would not have read them at all due to time restraints.
We moved to south Orange County from Houston 34 years ago. We have become so accustomed to the weather here, that we would find it difficult to leave! Living expenses and politics are two of our concerns, of course. We describe the 4 California seasons as: Earthquakes, Santa Ana Winds, Drought, and Fire. But, those things do pass! Can’t beat the cool evenings here!
I’m so glad you like LA/CA! I grow tired of people hating on certain places because it’s not for them. Live where you feel called and be a light! ❤️
Same. I love CA but I’m not from there. I’d retire there if I could.
A lot of it is jealousy because they live in a crapy place with cold weather.

Would you go into more detail as to why you moved since you didn't leave LA?
I wondered if it was to a new congregation
@@tjbrat44they’re still at Grace Community
Yeah that seems to be a black hole. Especially since a month ago they did a tour of their old home. Wonder if they’re renting it out…
It definitely counts as reading a book.
Audiobooks still count. I'm an auditory learner and I get a lot more of of listening to books versus reading them.
Yes!!
I mean.. of course they count. Blind people read by listening to them. Not all blind people read braille.
I'm a life long reader and audio book listener because of my grandma. She's always been an avid reader and, when she lost her sight in the 70s, audiobooks became her reading eyes. ❤
Moving is one of the hardest jobs! Exhausting!
Especially if the whole family has the flu....like we did back in 2018 when moving to our homestead.....ughhhh.
Yes audible is reading. Love audible . Nice to see you both.
And your solution with homesteaders, yes, I do the same thing; try to buy as much as possible from farmers markets; especially fresh fruits and veggies, and homemade spinach pasta.....Anyway, have a lovely blessed day
English teacher here…Audio books absolutely count, as long as you’re paying attention, and it’s not just background noise.
@RondaOathes are you interested in voicing my memoir?
Doesn’t improve ur reading. It improves ur listening skills
She sounds like a giddy teenage girl. Jeez Louise Jinger; your husband is a douche
Audible is reading a book. Otherwise I couldn’t count it as read on Good Reads or Audible. I read Jinger’s book and appreciated her voice and inflections while reading it. Thank u Jinger. 🇨🇦 ❤
I love watching a good renovation in progress, just sayin' 😘
I second that! 😅
It’s dorm housing for Pastors 😅 they sold that house in Santa Clarita for less than they originally paid 😂 yeah really living the high life
You just had a home tour and now you've moved. The two houses look completely different. Contemporary vs old world. We moved so often (when I was growing up) I have trouble settling down. Thanks, guys
That’s why they did the home tour because they were moving.
I agree that audiobooks are reading, yes you can zone out, but if you enjoy the story you can listen to it again and catch what you might have missed. I have a few book series that I will listen to over and over and see what i missed the last time.
Listening to books absolutely counts...that is how I "read" many books in grad school!
I live in the Wine Country I call it the weather tax! This is paradise, I feel blessed ❤
Haha That's a good way to look at it! And California used to have even better and consistent weather before climate change.
Former library employee and reader. Audio books absolutely count!
I love you Jinger. You are amazing and deserve the world. It’s awesome to see you all grown up. I wish you the best.
I love listening to an audiobook. It keeps me on track but I have to follow along as it reads. Children with reading disabilities can comprehend better listening.
Love how you are both supportive of each others feelings
It's beautiful that you guys can seem like two best friends chatting and be a married couple ❤
Yes listening to a book is the same as reading it. You are still retaining it either way
Yes listening to a book counts the same as physically reading a book as long as your getting the content it doesn’t matter how you get it paper book, ebook, audiobooks it’s all the same
About books and reading. Reading is absolutely visual. Audio is hearing. Your eyes read. Your ears hear. It is in the true senses.
If it’s a book that you have to be paying attention while you read. Nothing else compares. You will miss it and have to come back to read.
So glad you have a new home and started back up again. A Audiobook definitely counts as reading the book.
CONGRATULATIONS… so happy for you. We are in the middle of a remodel in our kitchen too. It’s hard to go through but a lot of fun at the same time. I have lived in CALIFORNIA my whole life, we pay for our weather. Hahaha…. Glad you love California…. 🌴☀️🌷
Congratulations on the move. Blessings on your new journey
Listening to an audio book definitely counts as reading it. Sometimes, I do zone out briefly but I just rewind and listen to that part again. There are a lot of mundane things, like housework that go much faster with an audio book or a podcast.
Yes, I was a library assistant and listening to audiobooks definitely counts as reading 😊
I look forward to seeing the Reno and your new home. That’s exciting. Thanks for sharing.
I love the video format of the podcast!!
I am team Audiobook! They count as reading. I am really happy that I found your podcast!
Glad your in the state. Helping our state be a better state… you are amazing. Jinger… the clothes. Are you going to be continuing? Tall small gal.
I love hearing about your family, can't wait to see your new home please show us the renovations as you go it's lovely to see a house become a home. Looking forward to your next video, soon I hope
Audio books are amazing. I love getting things done while listening to a wonderful book.
Listening to an audiobooks counts! But yes you have to pay attention.
I've missed u guys ..I hope yall r back in arkansas...I listen to the bible..faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of GOD❤
Absolutely listening to a book is like reading them. I get just as much or more of the content when I listen.
Oh for sure audiobooks is reading books but i do actually tell people i listen to books. I've always read books but now I'm older the eyes are not happy with reading. That and the fact that library or other older books make me sneeze and give me sinus attacks so THANX JINGER and folks like you for taking the time to read to me❤
It totally counts! In fact, I’ve “read” some audio books several times because I love the content so much.
You two are such a lovely couple. I truly enjoy watching you two. Thank you.
Jinger is the coolest Duggar, she got the best husband and the best life. I’m so happy for her.
yeah she & Joy ❤❤❤
@@jenniferarnold4077 best husband what a joke. He's a controlling man and Jinger is his little puppet
@@jenniferarnold4077 best husband what a joke. He’s very controlling, jinger is Jeremy little puppet. She’s not the coolest
@@blueangels8103hey there, that’s totally your opinion and doesn’t change mine at all. Thanks for the unsolicited comment back. I’m sure they appreciate your comment as well and appreciate you watching. Views and comments are everything ❤
@@fruttojuli_blog_Astrolog yes! I was going to say Joy got another good husband who lets her explore and doesn’t keep her held hostage with the digger family
So glad y’all are back! I could listen to you guys for hours!! Congratulations on your beautiful new home!!!! Hoping the reno goes by quickly, I know yall are ready to have lots of family meals and memories made with those that you love. 💜 Much love from Northeast Texas!
Lol
Your forgot and the Government and the laws like it's ok for Children to Trans and have Surgery. Sounds like a good place to raise Children
I got married and moved to the Southern California area. We bought two homes while out there, sold the first one to buy the second one. We loved our home. We both had jobs and ran a small business 48 hours a month. We lived through two huge earthquakes while we were there, the Sylmar and Northridge, we had no real damage to our homes during the quakes but we really didn’t want
to be in another quake. Sadly our marriage ended and I moved back to Texas, and if I had it to do over, I would never have moved my
children away from their grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. By summer in the LA area, everything is brown, it seldom rains in
So Cal in the summer, of course homes and businesses did water their lawns, but traveling outside of cities, no beautiful landscapes
just lots of brown stuff. And we had fires! The first or second year we were there fires surrounded our town, it was pretty frightening to us, neighbors weren’t worried at all and made fun of us newbies. So I miss my beautiful home, landscaping, but not the fires, floods, and certainly not the earthquakes! Here we have thunderstorms, hailstorms, ice storms, lightning, tornadoes, too much traffic,
too many houses being built in rural areas, high temperatures, crime, so it’s not a perfect place to live, but like the saying goes, you can take the girl out of Texas, but you can’t take Texas out of the girl. I’m happy to be back, two of my children live very near me, and my third child, an adult was killed by a hit and run driver about 14 years ago. Live is not perfect no matter where you live! Just try to live your best life. 😊
Same here. Native and not leaving because I love the beauty and weather
I so agree. It would be very hard for me to live and raise my children in an area like that, despite its beauty and the weather.
But obviously the Vuolos don’t mind. I wonder how they plan to shield their kids from all of the terrible influences there?
That’s so exciting. Can’t wait to watch more about the house 🏠
Guys thank you so much for your wonderful podcast! It help so much! A lot! God bless you! Love you so much guys!❤❤❤
I am so happy for you guys! I grew up in Central Arkansas and have lived in Southern California since 2017. I love life here.
CONGRATS on your new home!!! Excited to see what your upcoming projects are 🔨 😎
Yay you're still here!🎉💜🙏🏼
Remind me....what does Jeremy do for a living? Did you say WHY you moved? Can't wait to see the house. Looks very interesting.
