Gotta love living in a country that makes sports inaccessible. I remember a slide from US Soccer meeting where they were bragging about revenue made off ticket sales even though the actual match attendance was less than the previous year lol.
capitalism baby, why have accessible infrastructure and walkable cities when you could make the elite hundreds of millions a week, clustered and unnecessary planet-killing carcentric infrastructure and homeless camps everywhere? Wheres the profit there?
Its just typical corpo logic. If less people are buying the product then better make it more expensive to make up for it. Instead of making it more accessible so more people want to buy it. Same with ticket prices.
Part of the issue I think is CONMEBOL being the SOUTH American football federation, hosting a tournament in another confederations territory, where they have little experience with fan culture, stadiums, and hosting a tournament in general. If this was in South America it would not have happened because they actually know how to host an event there, and the police and security know how to actually handle South American fans.
Literally none of this issues happened in 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019 or 2021... But hey, those don't count and the Conmebol as a whole is discredited and "should never ever host a tournament again" according to Berhalter lover. This tournament was a disgrace and it being played in the US played a part in it, whether Americans like to admit it or not, but kicking the dog while it is down after being criticized by everyone is the best and easiest way to gain traction. "It's their fault, not ours"
@@WhimsicalCotton so then what ur saying is that Concacaf and the federation that the US actually has a say in and can really make shit happen in had absolutely 0 issues the last time they ran this tournament a decade ago. so conmebol is the x factor that changes it
@@thelnlme I actually was there and saw them popping out the other end and climbing through a hole in a fence and they were trying to climb up to the spiral ramp and the cops were beating them with batons and pushing them back down
A few reasons. For the plausible deniability side, it was infrastructure and ability to handle the costs following the pandemic. Most South American states who were interested then declined because of the hit their economy took and could not construct, renovate or acquire stadium space adequate for what they wanted. On the realistic side, money. Just money.
Because South Americans view the Americas as 1 Continent. Many Latin Americans have been wanting Copa América to be a Huge Continental Tournament unifying both Confederations, so seeing a Copa América in the USA is not really Abnormal to South Americans (Heck, I wish more Concacaf Hosted Copa América, like México)
Because the political situation in Ecuador got really bad, and they needed a new hoast quickly. And most other states couldn't afford it. Money as well tbh.
I just need to emphasize how absolutely awful the USA vs Uruguay referee, Kevin Ortegas was, and this video needed more than just 10 seconds on the match. The yellow card issue while allowing play to immediately start leading to a near goal, a USA player being yellow carded when an Uruguayan player kicked him, Pulisic having a clear advantage with the ball after a USA player was fouled and the ref blows the whistle as he is charging down the wing, and after all of it the ref refuses to shake Pulisic's hands. I'm the guy who tells people to stop complaining when refs make mistakes in matches and not to make accusations of corruption. The USA vs Uruguay match was one where I legit believe the referee was being paid and I have never been so incensed at a referee.
As a Peruvian imagine having to deal with this guy week in and out lmao. There were deadass some newspapers saying he was making our country seem "amateur"

That crush at the final was scary especially after having watched the documentary about Euro 2020 final in England. I was so worried people were going to be killed in the crowd like that with unruly fans and the crush at the gates.
You were okay until you reached the security issues, pretty much pretending it's only CONMEBOL to blame, when in fact security is in charge mostly by the hosting country, I mean could you imagine a foreign organization having jurisdiction over your country's law enforcement? CONMEBOL stated they advised their crowd control plan for the entrance, which consists of three security rings, and by the images that unfolded it was crystal clear they decided not to follow it, because people haven't been capable of crowding the entrance at any given final for the tournament in the past decades.
COMNBOL organized everything that includes the pitch the ticket prices what stadiums the games were gonna be in they controlled everything there was maybe a little bit of control on security by the US and that is it, and the security isn’t used to a bunch of fans with no life risking other peoples lives to watch a game
@@thejoulesthief6841not even mexican ones? Ultras are in Europe, the brazilian equivalent are TORCIDAS ORGANIZADAS/UNIFORMIZADAS (ORGANIZED/IN "UNIFORM" SUPPORTERS).
It is crystal clear that the security issues were 100% on stadium organizers. Conmebol organizes matches with fans that make these look like primary schoolers on the regular and they don't have this many problems. Just 5 minutes of googling "Copa Libertadores final" should've made kt clear how serious they should've taken security lmao
Good video but you left out one thing of VAR. Davinson's sanchez goal was legit against brazil and what did var do, they called offsides, to the wrong player. They got confused and mistook sanchez with jhon cordoba and flagged it offside. In the actual game they only showed the offside literally 5 swconds because they knew they messed up and also the penalty they did not give to Colombia after macallister took down cordoba
Completely different hosting organization for tickets, security, etc... They will take security and the pitch conditions much more seriously and have had more years of prep with the cities hosting as well.
As a European (German) yes it's funny when we make fun of the US its all jokes and banter but this, this is ridiculous A lot of people talked about that this copa America was awful and the US don't know how to organize such events and they're not capable of holding the world cup, like seriously did people forget that arguably one of the best if not the best world cup was organized by the US? also this isn't them who held this copa America its CONEMBOL and they are awful its not the US to blame

That was 30 years ago with only 24 national teams, there is no way that you can compare them, CONMEBOL has a lot of issues but you can't just say that they are entirely at fault for everything when the US could have done much better if they actually cared.
Nah, it's the US fault. These issues didn't happen on the previus Copas America, know why? because the last countries that hosted the copa america knew what they were doing
Poor children. They are one of the main reasons why I hate hooligans, and those who defend them. You may think that your violence and your flares are "passion" and cool, but the only thing that they are is a way to field hostile from anyone who is not you. Imagine being a parent with two small children trying to watch a football match when suddenly a brawl starts because some drunkards decided to attack someone else. Or trying to get to the stadium and getting crushed because some people without tickets cannot accept that they will have to watch the match from a TV (it is not a life or death situation, seriously, you can see it on TV and nobody is going to die because of it) so they start a riot and crowd crushes that could have easily killed anyone, especially children. And then people justify it like "oh, it is because they are very passionate". Nah, I know a lot of people who are very, very passionate about football, and none would do stuff like that.
in peru, going to a qualifiers or a copa libertadores/sudamericana match, there's nearly three blocks closed, full of police and ticket lines in four corners of the stadium. And that, being a normal match, not a derby nor a clásico nor a final: a simple match, when most of the time there's only local fans. and seing that in the final of the most important tournament conmebol organizes, in what's probably the most expensive fans ever had to live, in a logistical shitshow that doesn't seem to understand that fan culture in latinamerica is far from being similar of the usa's... is just shameful.
Seeing that footage of a Canadian player elbowing a Chilean player had me scratching my head.Cuz Jesse Marsch didn't had a problem with it.Cuz all he did during this Copa America was complaining about his team was unfairly treated. When his team wasn't all that innocent. But beside that. The USSF has to take part of the disaster that was the Copa America.Lastly, this just shows how incompetent the US is in hosting events.

I remember when in January of last year, Colombia hosted the U-20 South America Cup. Make no mistake, this was a big thing here. I live in Cali, where all the group stage matches were hosted. This city is.. imagine Detroit but 10x worse.. the entrance of the Colombian team matches were ridiculously low, like 3$. A lot of people showed up, especially for the Argentina vs Colombia match. Most of them were America de Cali fans, which are known for being very intense and passionate. The organization for all the matches I went was very smooth. Lots of police, the entrances of the stadium were far away from it, avoiding crowd crushes and too much density, and I can't recall a single incident. In fact, I remember a drunk fan throwing a bottle at the pitch being arrested inmediately, avoiding a fight or something worse. I still can't believe how the Colombian FA was able to organize something like this better than Conmebol and the USSF while having a really low budget. Im convinced that Venezuela would have been a better host for this Copa America than USA.
I was at the final in Florida for a trip, being in there was actually like being in a raging mosh pit and it was so terribly officiated. I got past the gates with my dad and saw a little girl who couldn't have been older than 12 on the floor and convulsing due to the mix of heat and lack of air in the tight crowd, not to mention all of the fans who started running away from security because they snuck in. It didnt even end when the match started, 3 fights broke out around my seat including an incident where a colombian fan threw water at an argentinian fan. There were multiple people being escorted because they didnt have a real seat and instead were sitting on the staircases. Horribly managed by CONMEBOL, I personally still enjoyed it but seeing all the worrying family's having to shield and protect their kids really upset me.
CONCACAF was in charge of security in collaboration with CONMEBOL, do not absolve all other partners in charge of security for the sake of only bashing CONMEBOL. The disaster of security at the Uruguay vs Colombia game and the disaster at Hard Rock was as much as fault on them as was on CONMEBOL.
If concacaf was in charge with CONMEBOL, then it would’ve went as smoothly as 2016. But no, it didn’t. How is it their fault if they weren’t as in charge as they should’ve been? You’re conflating organizing vs hosting as the same thing
I was at the USA v Bolivia game. It was sad that the stadium was not full and no reason the ticket prices were so high. I hope this is a good leaning experience for real and doesn't get repeated again. Thanks for the video
Eurocup 2020 Final and the Champions League final in Paris in 2022 also had fans storming the stadium yet you didn’t say UEFA should never host anything ever again back then. You really need to stop being so Eurocentric and also need to stop looking down at South Americans. The blame was both on the US and Conmebol, it’s not just on one entity.
No way. South America didn’t even want to host it and US got put in last minute. That’s why its an 8 year process to choose for a World Cup not 2 years like the US had to prepare for this.
@@nasiruddinnahid2275He did make videos decrying Racism on Europe and the double standard surrounding the performative actions among players in Qatar WC.
Despite these problems, I still found Copa America this year to be more interesting than the Euros. And that’s despite all these organizational pitfalls. I think the fact that the pitches were smaller, and ET being eliminated in favor of immediate penalty kicks actually make the game more interesting. The Argentina Ecuador game I attended personally in nosebleed seats I payed $400 per person for (!!!) and thank god it was an unforgettable match experience.
I understand you have US biases, but you have to blame the US as much as COMNEBOL. They are sentient beings too and should have taken extra precautions considering they needed to paint a good image as WC hosts. Very biased video considering WC and Euro hosts take their own measures like Qatar did with the non-drinking policy and Germany did with their form of organizing. Therefore, US must be blamed for what they did (or what they did not in this case).
The US did its job as hosts. Infrastructure, places to stay, public transport or ability to get to the stadiums were all good. Those are all in the public sphere in some regard. Once it went into the stadiums, where it becomes a private entity, is where things fell apart. The government does not fix turf, regulate officiating or have a bureau of ticket taking and gate management. All of those are private services that CONMEBOL went cheap on to skim some off the top to put in their pockets. The police were at the events- even though I would prefer they were not- but they were not the ones in control of the crowd movement for the event. They attend incase of criminal activity taking place. Its either "Aggressive police state" if we took control and everything went fine or "Irresponsible, negligent" for trusting that a multi billion dollar corporation can do THE ONLY THING THEY ACTUALLY DO competently. As much as America sucks (Hi, American here) this was a no win scenario.
Concerning stadium safety I’ll give you that one, but understand that CONMEBOL wanted full control after what little they recieved in the Copa America Centenario in 2016. So all the accountability falls on them, sponsorships, security, player accommodation, what needs to be understood is this, if another confederation wants to host a tournament, they gotta have a joint agreement with the host confederation.
@@oniisan6452 THIS is the right take. People are blaming Conmebol without considering that this is the first Copa America where things go so wrong in a very long time. Meanwhile, other people are blaming the US as if they hadn't already proven themselves with the 2016 Copa America. So the only conclusion is that the REAL mistake was having Conmebol manage all of this by themselves in a completely different continent. And one much much much more expensive than any South American country, at that. What the hell were they thinking?
Bro these people always blame us for every bad thing about the copa america😂, their confederation has so little teams that they don’t even have qualifiers

That crowd crush moment in the final could’ve been a really huge tragedy. What were they expecting with the fact that Messi might be playing his final, final with Argentina? That there wouldn’t be tons of people? This isn’t Qatar where it was needed to sell your house to get to Qatar, there’s many immigrants from Argentina and Colombia, and many many fans of Messi. Thinking back, that fence being broken into really saved a lot of people.
You should be aware that although CONMEBOL left ticketing to the stadiums, Hard Rock Stadium's statement regarding what happened at the final said that CONMEBOL strong armed them into following their preferred security protocols instead of the ones they usually follow for event crowds of that size. CONEMBOL of course put the blame on Hard Rock Stadium. Not sure who may necessarily be telling the truth, but just an important thing to mention.

as someone part Uruguayan, not just because we lost, I genuinely hate the way these Colombian fans act. People say that Uruguayan fans started the problem, but even if they did, how could that escalate to the point where Colombian fans attack the players families??? So Copa America being harder than Euros isn't because the level of play is that much better, it's because Copa America has a horrible organization, making it extra difficult for the players to survive the tournament at all.
Everyone is blaming Conmebol for the shitshow that this tournament was, but it was held in the US, if you know that you're having a world cup in a few years, and now have a tournament where everyone is judging if you will be a good host, well you should not leave it up to chance, or worst Conmebol to have your reputation on the line lol

Don’t think it can be understated how bad the officiating was, as a Colombian I was livid during the final because at least one, if not two, penalties were not given on some clear infractions - one went to VAR and call stood, and the other didn’t go to VAR, the ref held the ball for several minutes in stoppage time and then called the game. Argentina also didn’t get plenty of calls their way - the handball could easily be argued - and overall it was a mess of a final that felt like such a disappointment after years of discouragement for our national team
By CONMEBOL standards the incidents at the final were pretty tame. Copa Libertadores 2018 final Boca vs RiBer was WILD. God told South America I’ll give u the best players of all time but also the worst organizers of all time as well. 😅
9:53 You are right to mention the Kanjuruhan tragedy in 2022 as a comparison to the Copa America Final one, but several months prior to that, there was a similar incident happened in Paris during the Champions League Final, when the Liverpool hooligans stormed through the stadium entrance without tickets and found themselves getting harassed by the local police. After the investigation, it is revealed that the disturbance ignited by the Liverpool hooligans was due to the sort of the intervention involving the local French fans. 10:51 Donald Trump's failed assassination attempt should be included here. crowd issues are the most infuriating to me. in latin america, if you really wanted to sneak in, you'd also have to run through up to three different barricades, furthest one about three blocks away from the stadium so they can also prevent people with no tickets from parking around. and of course, if they had organized it here, they would have taken notes from 2020 euro incidents: colombia hasn't been in a international final for over twenty years, and they had the same "it might be the only time in our lives we get to see this" mindset the english had, plus tickets were impossibly difficult to get, so it wasn't too hard to guess they'd be overly excited as well and i get it....! not sure where can we draw the line of how much is either conmebol or concacaf to blame, but either way, i seriously doubt the usa can handle this. except peru vs chile maybe, there's not too much *political* or historial rivalry between any conmebol country, so how are they going to handle crowds from those countries with past or on going issues in the worldcup? i wonder
The US hosted the most attended World Cup in history 30 years ago. Granted, it's in part due to this country's abundance of 90K seat stadiums. Still, I think it'll be fine in the end considering there's no horror stories (that I know of) from the 1994 World Cup.

no literally, and the worst part is he is never gonna take any accountability for his racism, while calling de paul a fucking moron for saying enzo is not a racist, fuck this asian bitch
This video i know will trigger so many people, here's my take on it: 1. Hosting Copa America in the US was good. Even if they have very little to no "ball knowledge", i assume its a lottery for different countries hosting and is safer than some other regions of south america. If you want an example, F1 host the Sao Paulo GP since the 60s or 70s and recently, the drivers have to be in armoured vehicles for their own safety. Says a lot about the area that they're in. 2. The racist/racism aspect along with the violence isnt okay. It happens everywhere and its terrible but a lot of people on social media that come from South American countries will occasionally say that they're being targeted, as they're from a minority racial demographic, but that does not excuse them or anyone else from being racist, homophobic and violent to anyone else out of the fact your team lost or that you just dont like them. Ive seen it in indycar, where the driver August Canapino got into some controversy but has fans from Argentina sending abhorrent messages to his teammates and other drivers on the grid for getting into crashes with him or beating him on pure pace. Its not on at all. Having players from their country needing to control fans in the fight and protect their families is horrific. 3. The security and staff at the stadiums were terrible and i dont think this is on CONMEBOL for this. Germany hosted the euros and the UK held it in 2020 and there was no issue with security. This is simply that the US, the state's and cities that hold these events were underprepared and not trained to handle such events. They need better training and more policing to aid this which has to come from the US and the local authorities. All CONMEBOL can do is tell them or advise them to do so. 4. Ticket prices. This was just absurd and crazy. The markup on the tickets was way too much and the entry into the stadiums was mismanaged. Im from the UK and we have a bad reputation when it comes to football as we get targeted with hooliganism. It happened at these euros when we had fights with dutch fans. Its not about what regions and places are the most racist and which demographic is the most discriminated and gets the most blame. This is about fixing mistakes such as these and actively removing and kicking out violent and racist behaviour, having a safe place that fans can go and enjoy the beautiful game and to not have tickets costing a mortgage just for a 90 minute game. This all needs to change for the better for the future. This isnt an attack on South America but this should be taken as an example to NOT let this happen for the next Copa America, World Cup or any international football event.
THAT SECOND POINT THOUGH. I'm from LatAm and I know from experience that soccer fans here are some of the most bigoted specimens on Earth. But they're very quick to call out other bigots when they're the ones being targeted. Two wrongs don't make one right

The ammount of luck that was in that final is beyond human understanding. The conditions were there to make it one of the worst disaters in football hisory. Hillsborough could have been reapeted and made even worse, the PLAYER families had problems getting into the stadium and were in some cases separated from other argentina fans by being surrounded with colombia fans. We could have even seen things like the heysel disaster if one of the fanbases got too mad. I was awake and watched the final so I was keeping up with all the updates and we all thought that they should delay the match.

The main question is, why the hell CONMEBOL was hosting a tournament in the fucking USA?!?!?!!!
💵💵💵💵💵💵
A few reasons.
For the plausible deniability side, it was infrastructure and ability to handle the costs following the pandemic. Most South American states who were interested then declined because of the hit their economy took and could not construct, renovate or acquire stadium space adequate for what they wanted.
On the realistic side, money. Just money.
Because South Americans view the Americas as 1 Continent. Many Latin Americans have been wanting Copa América to be a Huge Continental Tournament unifying both Confederations, so seeing a Copa América in the USA is not really Abnormal to South Americans
(Heck, I wish more Concacaf Hosted Copa América, like México)

You cannot tell me about corruption against concacaf when Canadá vs Chile was a thing

Exactly.
@@thejoulesthief6841not even mexican ones? Ultras are in Europe, the brazilian equivalent are TORCIDAS ORGANIZADAS/UNIFORMIZADAS (ORGANIZED/IN "UNIFORM" SUPPORTERS).

And that's probably how it is in most, if not all, South American countries. What happened in the final was a big shitshow

Not to mention me and my dad could've gotten in for free by the way... but we scanned our tickets somehow

I know right an Argentine footballer would never go live with his teammates being racist right? Right ?!
What makes the song racist??
@@R3fl3xEscalling frances team "africans" and implying because they are black people they obviously arent really french. Thats insanely racist
@@R3fl3xEs ain’t no way your asking this I really hope this just you trying to carry on the joke we were making but badly.
Admit it was conmebols´s fault cuz central america could host a copa and the same shit wouuld happen
CONMEBOL is indeed an organization through which corruption spreads like cancer.
(and here's a hint: Their favorite is not Argentina, it's Brazil for obvious economic reasons, given that it's the biggest, most populous country with the highest valued league in all of CONMEBOL, all they like is money)
Can you do a brief video about football in the olympics? I know most people don’t watch it, but it’s better than nothing
*concacaf is in charge of the organization of the tournament*
Maxwell: ALL OF THIS IS CONMEBOL FAULT!
no literally, and the worst part is he is never gonna take any accountability for his racism, while calling de paul a fucking moron for saying enzo is not a racist, fuck this asian bitch
The US also used NFL stadiums which have smaller pitches than a regular football pitch.
No they are much bigger. The average NFL stadium is 65k seats. Arrowhead (one of the stadiums used) is a 75k seater
@@benficademacaufan I’ll edit the comment because I meant the pitch.
This video i know will trigger so many people, here's my take on it:
Two wrongs don't make one right
I didn t expect Maqwell with Palmeiras shirt😅
Been saying that first sentence for so long. Finally it’s been vocalized.
If the whole thing was such a issue them is simple no more none south Americans.conmenbol is a South America organization and copa america is a south American thing if you want to participate in a cup like that them make it yourselves and invite whomever you want. 😊
Libertadores is no stranger to racist chants coming from fans on stadiums during matches
Ask now if CONMEBOL punished these actions
I think if conmebol actually punshied this behaviour like UEFA this crap wouldn´t have happen
instead, conmebol punishes flags, fireworks and ads being kicked out and broken in the court
5:00 even worse, Bombito received the yellow card but it was for another tackle later on
That Copa América final could have easily been another Hillsborough Disaster
Conmebol should just keep it in South america
2:05 time stamping this for when the time comes.
4:26
10:42
World Cup 2026 definitely gonna be the worst World Cup in history I can already see it being called that 😭
I will still be watching the World Cup from the comfort of my home and this time I don’t have to stay up late or wake up very early
2:00 But they make more money from (a) half-filled stadiums with exorbitant ticket prices than they make with (b) sold-out stadiums with cheap tickets. (Not saying it's right, but do the math.)
You gringos should also take responsibility.
Y'all provided security
Y'all provided the stadium
Y'all put the prices
Yes, Conmebol shouldn't had done a tournament in a country with a very different spot culture from south America. But some of these problems should have been foreseen
I was in the crowd at the final and it was ridiculous 😂 people were holding their kids up above their heads bc it was so hot and cramped
*USA get's grouped*
Maqwell:
man can wait for another tumultuous tale of sporting event in 2024 (looking at you paris)
Ha ha
The Palmeiras shirt caught me off guard.
Didnt expect nier music from you maq
There was another video that surfaced of one of the Colombian fans tied down on the floor while his head was bleeding… like a LOT
How do these random video essays always end up with Sonic Unleashed music. It's amazing
They should just keep copa america in South America!
I'm confused as to why the US even stepped in to host. I thought they didn't even have relevant soccer teams over there.
Not saying conmebol is perfect, but CONCACAF and US Federation were also organizing the tournament, they are also as coulprats as Conmebol
Is the USA gonna challenge Qatar for worst World Cup hosts? I think they’ve got a chance.
7:49 It's just the Champions League final in Saint-Denis all over again.
If every team Maqwell touches gets cursed then we NEED to make a petition for him to be a Man City fan!
Great video bro
5:00 just as a little correction, Bombito did not recieve any type of card with that foul. His yellow card came a few minutes later with another foul
Maqwell ignoring Canada/Peru where Alistair Johnston got headbutted and the Peru player wasnt sent off even with VAR intervening...
I saw someone write that there were colombian drug dealers spotted at the stadium. Again, the ammount of luck cannot be measurred
I’m blaming all the idiots that snuck in without tickets
Surely the World Cup won’t be accessible for ordinary fans, the stadiums are so spread out with extortionate flights.
The Argentine second division is less dangerous than a conmebol tournament hosted in the us.
Great watch as always 🫡👊🏿
Yo Maqwell I know you’re not focusing on watching the Olympics but can you make a video or even a short regarding the last supper controversy?
