Very nice Gate system. Looks more time consuming than anything. Step by step. When you were all done and Gismo comes walking thru, I thought, O Gismo has his own controller. Be very nice on crummy days. Thanks Toni
Y'all have really smartened up the front of that property, Tony! One day we'll go to a gate opener, but for now, it's get out of the truck and open the gate the old way! Take care. B&D (PGH)
One suggestion I have seen is to mount the gear box end of the arm a little bit higher than the gate end of the arm. This will tend to direct rain water off the end of the arm rather than it tending to flow back into the mechanics of the arm. I've seen people having to open the arms up and remove water from the mechanisms.
To keep from crushing the gate tubing when mounting the arm to the gate I used a piece of chain link 1 7/8 pole cut it in half and sandwiched the the gate tubing then mounted the gate hardware. Has been working great for the last 7 years.
This looks like a great gate system. I am impressed that you can see the tiny switches! You must be pretty secure about your area being safe from vandalism; you did not put the solar panel up on a high pole. That makes me happy. Gizmo looks great and say hello to Tanja for me. Now the expo seems like ages ago.
Due to theft of my gate opening system. I bought a metal locking tool box and mounted. Then I placed all my batteries and electronics inside. So far it has deterred any further thefts.
Something to note for further trouble shooting problems in the future. A lot of sound Equipment uses those green Euro Connectors. I have used them since they were invented and most of the Trouble I have experienced that the screw terminals do not stay tight especially with changing temps. Come back in a few months and check them. Even the Factory ones. I always hated seeing Equipment come in with them You could saved even more money just using a single gang outdoor Box for the Slave Drive. Thank Tony. Mike M
A square type U bolt attached to the gate would be a good choice. Also that battery box depending on the part of country would be up out of snow and mud splatter.
Thank you for the video Tony and it was great help for my project. Just about that two Bolt which was popping out would have been put it other way around. So you don't need to cut it or grind it. I'm not sure i felt that way.
Great video. If you push on the gate when it's closed to try and open it, do the pistons remain locked? I dont have a center catch so worry about security, as well as strong winds that can push it open.
Hercules tools i ended up buying a grinder circular saw a drill from harbor freight and they are probably the best tools I’ve ever bought super strong and battery lasts a long time plus the price is half as others
Instead of trimming off the end of the protruding bolts, you could use them to mount a sign with your logo, address number, or maybe reflector to help spot where the gate is at night..
Just gettig around to putting mine up.. it's been freezing here in MO. Got one arm up this weekend. Had put up the solar panel, battery box and controller board about 3-4 months ago (it's was cold then too). My gate is wooden and looks no where as good as yours lol but at this point idc lol.. I'll try and get it up over the next couple of weeks or so.
Great video. Thank you. My gate opener could never connect to 120 VAC… too far from any power. Can I assume then I won’t need that uninterrupted power supply module? Thx
thanks. this was really helpful. I'm in the midst of installing these on my driveway gate. (28 years of getting out to open the gate was long enough...) One question I had was that the bottom of the control panel only has the three openings. One has the cord going out for power and the other two are for the gate control wire, right? I purchased the wand sensor that has to be wired into the control panel also, but it doesn't look like the openings are wide enough for two wires, especially with the little water protection cover. Have you had to run two wires into any of those openings?
What is to keep someone with a chainsaw from cutting the posts down? What if someone with a helicopter lands on the other side of the fence? I am not that worried about it. If someone wants in, they will get in.
Did you buy the gates black or did you have to paint them? I’m having a hard time finding that style gate in black. I have only found a green or galvanized version. Helpful video though thanks for your time.
My question here is - What if you don't have an additional lock on the gate (which of course defeats not having to leave your car), what's to stop someone with one of those release keys from just releasing the arms and pushing the gates open?
Nothing. They can take a chainsaw and cut the post off. It is not a prison gate. It is only meant to be a deterrent. If someone wants in, they will get in.
Hi Tony, I'm installing my dual swing gate opener. Can you please tell me what wire size you use to connect the right size gate opener, the one you put underground. The solar panel I have is 20 watts and came without wire and the closest distance I can install for full sun is 30 feet's. What size of wire should I use. Thank you.
My master arm is opening perfectly but only closing half way, I have adjusted the screw on the bottom of the arm multiple times and still stopping at the same spot, any advice??
I wouldn't have through bolted. That gate will now rust faster now that the finish has been compromised. I would have either welded a strap to that bracket or bolted it to the bracket, and then used "U" bolts.

You will need the uninterrupted power module. It combines both 110v and solar. No way around it.
The little wire think is called a CGB... Core Grip Bushing.
You could pickup on for you power crossover.
I used a sealant that will hold better than the CGB. Still, it would have looked clean with them installed.
I would have used silicone filledwire nuts for panel wiring. commonly used in irrigation valves.
Probably a very smart idea.
