Wow, Andrew! You continue to amaze me! I am convinced there’s nothing you can’t assemble or fabricate! Your work ethic and perseverance are commendable.
In the military we used the term “harden target” this gate will definitely help with that approach. Even if it is able to be defeated or bypassed most average criminals will move on in search of an easier victim. Pretty cool build!
Love my Ghost openers. Ours have been going strong for a few years. I will say you may be to buy different batteries. Unless they have switched brands, the batteries they send are pretty cheap and have a short life.
Hey Daniel! I remember watching your video of you installing your unit. I'm happy to hear that yours is still working well, that seems to be the common concensus among people with them. If I see any issues with the batteries, I think I'll swap over to a marine deep cycle battery and box. Take care!

Hello Andrew and Ruger without Ruger this could not of been done!!! WOW!!! Andrew it is ridiculous how humans have turned to crime one excuse after the other. I agree you have to protect what is yours. I have never installed one of these but if I had to say in my opinion no help needed just measure twice and make sure you observe really well or take pictures along the way and refer if you have something that needs further adjustments. Mr. Doug it is so great of you to do this for Andrew and Tiffany you have got to be one of the neighbors of the world that people look up to and thank you sir!! Thank you Andrew this was a fascinating install entirely perfect to me. Ed in Partlow Virgina.
Pretty straightforward. You are a great teacher. I would eventually put a cement pad down, get a metal box and lag bolt it down to the pad for your packages.
Andrew, even if I never have the occasion to actually install something you have covered with any video, I really enjoy watching. Plus, one little part of knowledge and practical application can be useful. Thanks for sharing everything you do. Cheers.
One thing for certain, anyone with two brain cells will know with the gate and controls that there's MORE down the line and will not even bother to step a foot on the property. This was fascinating! and looks so easy, and now I completely understand the 'drag' you mentioned from a wheel. Thanks Andrew!
Wow, such a thorough walk through about how to install this amazing system! Thanks so much for going to the time and trouble to put this together and share it. This is exactly the kind of gate system we were looking for!
As always great explanations and reminders....it all looks so good...can't wait to see it when all the boards are stained that will make it look so different.
Couple suggestions. Make you a backer board for the control boxes. Makes them sturdier, harder to tamper with, protects from UV. Get you a DC to DC buck converter to hardwire the keypad to the 12v batteries. Consider adding a switch to the vehicle sensor so you can turn it off while mowing or doing other work in the area, leaving on vacation, in case it shorts out etc. As far as people breaking in, that pin holding the opener to the post makes it a 5 second job to break in. I have tools in every vehicle so I personally would replace it with a bolt and nut. I do see why most people wouldn't though and I totally agree with leaving it with the pin. Ambulances for instance.
Good points. I'm not going to try to secure this anymore, especially the pins in case of operator failure. Ghost controls keypad and remotes have a "party mode" feature that allows you to keep gate in open position. Works great when mowing around gate sensor. I wire tied the stock pins making it very time consuming and tools required to remove the pin. Also installed per county laws, a fire department access keyed switch from Knox. Not cheap but makes it legal and if theirs a fire the fire dept will not rip the gate down...
@@ridemfast7625 I use party mode all the time. Knox boxes are not required everywhere. I went by the fire station and talked with emergency dispatch. All they wanted was a special code they put in their system for any emergency response. I made one for them only and no one else.
This was an awesome build! Much thanks to Mr. Doug for his generosity :) Have you considered setting up a separate smaller Yagi antenna with an amplifier pointed towards the gate to extend you internet connection to the Ghost box? BTW: You can cover the solar panel with some cardboard to make it safer and easier to work on the electrical connections.

Your gate and fence look top notch! Best Ghost gate opener video I’ve seen, you did a great job of explaining everything. I’m looking into purchasing a gate opener right now.
i suggest a marker or something indicating how far back folks should keep their vehicle while the gate opens so they dont get hit by the gate, maybe around where the sensor is for when you have folks over who may be leaving in the dark.
Nice job! Installed a Ghost over three years ago and its been working great. Used a Cartell cp4 gate sensor. And a walmart $25 small tractor/auto battery that is also still going strong.
Great video I've been designing my back gates I have two square post either side, one I want to fit a 16 foot square post and mount a solar light and camera also it elevates the solar panels.
If you have the clearance inside the lock bracket, see if you can put a piece of rubber as a stopper to buffer the gate slamming into the bracket. Maybe it may absorb some of the shock.
Very nice install Andrew, it's going to look really sharp after you get everything painted black! I have the exact same set up on my gates and haven't had any problems at all yet, even in the sub, sub zero temps, hopefully that didn't jinx me? I would like to suggest putting a small piece of rubber under the lock to prevent the gate from slapping the post so much! Take care bud!
When you said ghost controls automatic gate opener I thought oh, they have ghosts and one of my ghost friends must be opening the gate. 👻👻👻🤣 What a sweet surprise Mr Doug!!
Nice Job Andrew, we have a lot of high winds at our place ,we have an 18ft 2” tube gate, but in high winds the gate operator is not able to close it on its own. You say y’all have high winds too, so I am betting you are going to have this issue as well. Basically we have to get out with the remote and assist the gate while it is opening or closing, depending on whether it’s fighting north or south wind.
Our winds come and go, they are not constant. What worries me is hurricanes and our crazy thunderstorms with 50+ mph winds. The lock takes care of that concern.
19:16 I paused at just the right time and saw the light at the end of that steel rectangular rod. I think you can route the wire through it with some fishing tape and creativity.
You done an amazing job explaining the installation. Very thorough. One issue that we seem to have is constantly having to adjust the Zombie lock because the margin of contact is extremely small so if the ground shifts a bit or the nuts and bolts losen a bit it throws of the alignment between the Zombi lock and the henge. If you have a video on how to permantely correct this, that would be great. I guess I'll call the company for advise as well. Thanks so much for explaining the multiconnect accessory, I had been searching for this.
Make sure you put an EMP shield on this controller, ours got hit by lightning and it knocked out both gates on our paddock. $1400 per board. The few hundred dollar would have saved them or they would have covered the cost. Pretty good deal.
Highly recommend a teflon ramp at the lock side of the gate. Maybe a redesign latch pin with ramp on the woodside. Just enough to alleviate some of the weight strain. Out here on the Oregon coast I had to use it car battery on our Ghost Control because we don't get enough sunshine.
That might have been an easy install for you but most home owners would have serious difficulties. It looks good but I would like to see what problems come up in the next year or 2 as an auto gate opener that doesn't work is much worse than a manual one lol. That lock for instance looks essential but if it ever doesn't open you could burn out the opener quickly unless there is a safety. Good to have that easy remove pin when things go wrong. Very nice camera work and instructions btw thanks.
Instead of replacing the screws on the sign of the gate with more screws, perhaps some rivets would be a better solution. Could even use riv nuts so you could remove the sign for maintenance and painting. Just a thought.
Damn, I am out here in rural South Africa and I think that just about covers all I could ever need for gate management. No more jumping in and outta the truck to open gates! I gotta see how I get one over here.I am sure this would come handy in Australia as well. Great video mate.

I've ran the gate a lot over the last few days that have been cloudy. No issues thus far. I can always add more panels or a bigger panel, I need to see what the maximum specs are of the circuit board.
Doing some research on how to set up an automatic gate on my property. Need to have access for utility company to access their small site above the house if I'm not home (they have a right of way) to their property via my private road. Had so many questions - lock? keypad? exit sensor? This setup has all the accessories I would need and now I just need to find someone to make a nice decorative gate instead of using a pipe gate from tractor supply. Thanks for this vid! Subbed!
Ghost Controls is way better than the "Other Brand". Features, build quality and customer support. We have a double gate, pull to open with the lock. Love ours, and I am sure you will love yours!
@@TKCL True, more potential points of failure. Also it would be tricky to make the points where you drilled in and out of the steel to where it wouldn't wear down the wire insulation over time.
Did you watch my gate build video? The base support for that goes four foot in the ground, fans out into a pyramid shape, and has 640 lb of concrete in it plus rebar. I've seen zero sag in it even after several rains and the ground getting saturated.
Very nice system. How far is the house from the gate? You should be able to use a Ubiquiti UAP-AC-M-US. Setup an IoT separate wireless network and connect all your home automation, security cameras etc to that network. I have the UAP-AC-M-US transmitting wireless 700ft away from my house. If the gate is further than that you might want to look at getting 2 of them and use a solar panel with battery on one of the UAP-AC-M-US antennas which would mesh to the UAP-AC-M-US you put on your house.
I can easily add an extender to get Wi-Fi down there, but I am not convinced it doesn't add some security risk. Even with a good network and password, there always seems to be ways around it. If I didn't work from home 24/7 the internet option would be far more appealing for me. But I'm almost always home unless running errands.

Had so many questions - lock? keypad? exit sensor? This setup has all the accessories I would need and now I just need to find someone to make a nice decorative gate instead of using a pipe gate from tractor supply. Thanks for this vid! Subbed!
Glad you enjoyed it
Tell me about the long range driveway alarm, never heard of that…I might need something like that

has been working well for me for almost 3 years. I have a couple of sensors in different places with zero issues.
Ghost Controls is way better than the "Other Brand". Features, build quality and customer support. We have a double gate, pull to open with the lock. Love ours, and I am sure you will love yours!
I keep hearing they are excellent and much better then the other company.
At my friends house we put everything in sprinkler control boxes in the ground u can’t see anything except the solar panel
Great job. I thought you were going to run your lock control wires through the hollow top panel of the gate?
I was until I seen they were too short to accomplish this. I decided to not extend them.
Good video. You can just cover the solar panel with a towel then cut them.
Great video thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice set up. I might have just run the ZombieLock wire thru the center of the hollow steel instead for a cleaner setup finish, but overall very nice.
That was my plan to do up top, but the wires were not long enough. I'm not a fan of adding connections or splices on outdoor exposed wiring.
@@TKCL True, more potential points of failure. Also it would be tricky to make the points where you drilled in and out of the steel to where it wouldn't wear down the wire insulation over time.
You know a lot more than I know but I would put a kicker or a knee off that 6 x 6 post because that gate is beautiful and massive.
