    The price is insane. Especially when you consider some of the technical issues with it like ghosting and lag. But apart from that I love it. Taking notes or drawing anatomy is just like on paper. And like other people are saying, the point with it is to get you away from distractions. It is supposed to be free of all that social media/app nonsense. I for one am a person who wants to get more and more away from the constant distractions that follow with technology. Much of the reason the price is so high is because they face no competition in their field. Once companies like Amazon start pumping out similar products the price will go down.

    Yeah .. really cool ... but I suppose I’ll finish all my studies until these ecome even remotely reasonably priced
    I would love going to class and taking notes of one of these ... but for 640€, I can buy 2 laser printers, 10kg of toner from China, and literally with no exageration, enough paper to basically level any and all amazonian rainforests

    God, almost $900 here in Canada.
    All I want is something comparable to the Paperwhite but with a larger display that isn't 5x the price. I wish Amazon would release an XL version of the Paperwhite for $50 or so more.

      @@Poonam-ih5gc the words are as big as on a paper page. There isn't much of a difference between a paper page & the remarkable in how it looks. So many people that have absolutely no clue what this device is for... "Oh, it's too expensive, I can get an iPad Pro for that much" This is designed primarily for taking notes, if you can't justify the price then it's up to you. I do like it and I don't consider it to be too expensive. One trip to a good restaurant for 2 people costs that much. You want email? Get an iPad. You want to read ebooks? Get a Kindle. This device has a very specific purpose, it mainly does only one thing and instead of being Jack of all trades it is a master of one.

    Very interesting... not surprising that it is sooo expensive as it has been developed in Norway. Given relatively low functionality, as it is essentially replacing a note book and a kindle, price is definitely high. Also, would be great if it was available through stores as I personally like to test drive... touch, feel, see in my hands helps to convince whether it is right for me. I gather you have a lot of other folk -my age- who will wait to see it in shops...

    Do people not realize that this is NOT supposed to compete with tablets such as iPad etc? It’s in a completely different category. The point is to NOT have notifications and web browsing and apps. It’s not supposed to distract you with those things, it’s just supposed to be digital paper. Yes, it’s quite expensive. It’s first generation. It will get cheaper and it will improve.

      Billy Bob I think there could be a huge market for this. As a student, I burned through 750 pages of notebook in one trimester. Now, this product is not an ideal end goal yet that I would consider worth buying, but if it were improved all around I would very highly consider it for its storage space not being paper and weight/space saving plus the writing to text/sharing feature.

    Yes a little pricey. There is a way to get it way cheaper (see my other comment) I love it so far. I just got it a week ago. The new updates with the writing to text feature is very good even with my bad handwriting. It's surprisingly accurate. It takes time to get used to some quirks (pencil/pen defaults when you go to a new notebook or folder). Once I got used to the way to organize with folders, move files, and the menu options, it's quite good. It's not for everyone, but I think it helps me in being organized and productive.

    • @emiliogical
      @emiliogical 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Courtney D while I think the writing to text is good. I think it would be a nightmare for editing unless you have someone going over the conversion on a regular basis. You will be able to send it to pdf no problem but for many pages there will probably be a lot of errors. For a page or 2 of notes at a time it’s fine.

      @CourtNeeSupreme 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Emilio Trenzado mmmm. Thanks. This may not be the best for me then. Lol. I'm essentially looking for a digital journal. I just want to write and send it to an editable file, a PDF. Guess I need to keep looking.

      @emiliogical 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Courtney D you never know. You have 30 days to try. I think the writing to text is good but after hundreds of pages of converted text you might need to have a lot of editing. If you do want to try, remember to use a referral code. I have one if you can't find it but I think I posted it on this video in the comments. Good luck on the book.

    I remember when some of the very first LCDs came out in the 80's for clunktops. In every way I can see that eInk tech will take a forefront in future display purposes. Once all latency issues are solved and the color variants become implemented it will be a serious game changer for countless applications. And because the display isn't using power once the page is 'painted' we will see devices with crazy battery life. This device on its own is a huge leap for the industry. I can't wait to see what will be around the corner, but now the cost to market is still too much for the average enthusiast. I've been watching this new product for a while now - SO THANKS A BUNCH FOR THE REVIEW. In the same way that LCD to MOLED has evolved, we can expect the same at even a faster rate for this as well. When you can watch 60 frames a second in color - oh wow I can't wait. And just think what that will look like on smart phones, watches, car dashboards, etc...

    • @justmyusername9209
      @justmyusername9209 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's a company called ClearInk which uses a slightly different technology and they are about to release a color version which can also display animations. There technology also solves the price problem. The panels can be manufactured in standard LCD producing factory with little modification. There is also no need of the backlight so it should be even cheaper - but the manufacturer said either the same price or cheaper. Also it wont be difficult for them to produce different sizes. There will be some products on the market next year

      On Smartphones and so I think they would be best suited as a secondary display as opposed to a primary one. Just nothing is going to beat current modern OLED displays for colour, response times and contrast ratio. Though for most use we don't need such an amazing display. What they will be useful for is replacing the useless always-on-display feature that's really just a battery sucking and device lifetime shortening feature that'll be useful only to people that leave their phones lying around and that don't own a simple wrist watch.
      The usefulness comes in for hikers or when you have to go to any area where a charger isn't available and then your battery could last week's if the software is properly implemented. Which it is not, Android is a damn wasteful mess at the moment.

    I am an iPad fan and Mac user for ages. The quick response to this is, that I can use different Writing Apps on a mini iPad, or full iPad,of which I can find myriads of examples to choose from with different features and choices of complexity....with an IPad you can always write with your finger if you wish. I’m not sure it is addressed here, but the software would be static. I could use one, but my price for it to be a challenger for an iPad would be $150. Not $500 or $400 as I saw thins month, June 2019. I wonder if it can accept a BT Keyboard. I liked that it has a USB interface, but is it to charge or to transfer the documents. No word on how to transfer to document and to where. PDF is not the write tool if you want to sketch and then transfer the sketches to another application, say to a. IPad...very interested on this new gadget to sketch and write, but not at current price.

      It's all about tradeoffs, and you're trading video, browsing, email, a ton of app support, camera, audio notes, colour, for e-ink and a longer battery life??? With an iPad pro, you can take a picture of a document and start annotating it in seconds, or open an email, and sign a document and send it off. You'd be able to copy and paste text and diagrams from the internet and annotated them. Don't get me wrong I think that it's cool, but e-ink is still new tech. It's absolute lunacy to suggest that it's good utility for money. Right now you're paying to be an early adopter. This isn't a representation on the company, it's just the way new tech goes

      I like how you've sidestepped most of what I've said and focused on the most irrelevant part of my post.... you're really hitting the heart of the issue. It's because you know, the tradeoffs are not worth it. I'll address your pedantic nitpick and maintain my point. e-ink is NEWER than LED display. Touchscreen e-ink is a later innovation compared normal touchscreen. You will get a lot less functionality for your money if you get e-ink touchscreen tech because you're paying to be an early adopter. Right now, you're trading video, browsing, email, a ton of app support, camera, audio notes, colour, for e-ink and a longer battery life??? With an iPad pro, you can take a picture of a document and start annotating it in seconds, or open an email, and sign a document and send it off. You'd be able to copy and paste text and diagrams from the internet and annotated them.

    Great, well balanced review. Thanks for making it. I would like to have known how the stylus feels on the screen. On their website, one of the selling points is that they claim that it "feels" like writing on paper. Is that true?

    • @TheeBookReader
      @TheeBookReader  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kind of but it has more of a slick feel than paper. To me the Sony DPT-RP1 feels more like writing on paper because the screen has more texture to it.

    Can you tell me if it will just sit in the ON position until you need it? I would like it to be on my desk ready to be written on all the time. People tend to just stick their heads in my office and start listing off stuff they need and I don't want to fiddle with trying to get it awake and missing something.

    Thank you for the video. I have a question about the marking in .epub : how is it possible to mark and do comments in an epub book, when you can change the size of the font there. What happens for example when you draw lines in an .epub and then change the font size. Does it remove the lines? Greetings from Germany!

    • @TheeBookReader
      @TheeBookReader  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Good question! Currently it just leaves the notes on the screen the same size you added no matter what the font size is, so they only line up if you have the same font size selected as when you added them.

    I think the price of this is just absurd. When I saw this I thought, oh that would be a nice drawing pad for maybe $300 - MAYBE - even tho its missing a light which is absurd in 2017. Come to find out its almost $900.... No thanks. I'll just get an iPad Pro and get a much more capable tablet in literally every way.

    0:52 He says hardly any noticeable delay, as we clearly see the delay in the pen writing. :52 seconds in, and I already think this is a paid ad. This looks like another device I will buy used for shits and giggles for $50 in 3-4 years.

    • @Gebes
      @Gebes 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's really good for such a device
      There will always be a minimal delay, but it becomes smaller and smaller over the years.
      Writing on an iPad Pro which has a way higher delay (double as big as this) is also still very smooth, so you won't notice.
      It's like with monitors: I have a 240hz monitor on my pc at home (which is sooo butter smooth). Then bought a MacBook with a 60hz built-in monitor for coding while I am in the boarding school. So it is 4 times less smooth but still useable. You just have to get used to it. I do not even notice any more
      So writing on real paper would be the 240hz monitor and the remarkable 1 60hz. The second generation might be 90-120hz if we compare it that way. And the iPad 30hz

    Stay away from Remarkable!
    I emailed them to return the item for the following reasons and they DO NOT respond!
    1. The battery does not last more than a day with WiFi off and light use.
    2. The pen keeps stop working and should keep removing and putting back the tip.
    3. Refresh rate is terrible.
    4. Mobile app is completely useless (check the ratings in google play)
    5. When you try to export a 10 page note to desktop you'll end up having 400+ MB of a PDF.
    6. The screen is very dark and hard to read books, you'll end up preferring your PC screen.
    7. Pages turn very slowly and with delays since the processor is cheap.
