@@campbellbrown3726 I ran into and issue when I loaded the game the throttle will not calibrate it max's out at 1/8th depression and I can't seem to get it calirated So I haven't had time to mess with that.
Now that you've had this for a couple years, do you feel like you've "gotten used to it" and don't really recognize the effects of it anymore? Or does it still add a lot to your driving experience? This looks awesome but sometimes certain immersion-adding things become familiar and I'm wondering if it's become stale for you or it's still nearly as exciting as the first month of having it. Thanks for the info, it'd be appreciated to hear your thoughts!
I'm still a big fan of motion, especially in VR. In fact I sold this last year and upgraded to the eRacing Labs RS Mega+ actuator setup and absolutely love it. I've driven a few times with the rig off and it always feels dead in comparison. So no, it doesn't become background or stale feeling. At least not for me. If you can swing an actuator setup, I'll say the extra cost is worth every single penny. I was extremely concerned I was waiting money, but it's a completely different level of immersion. Plus SimHub added motion software that's just amazing, and makes these systems feel 100x better than anything you can do with SRS. But yeah, if you enjoy the immersion factor, then motion is a great addition.
Thanks for the info. How do you feel about the build quality. With everyday use do you think it will last ? Also, how about flex in the wheel base and Pedal base, are you running a DD wheel with the DOF?
Build quality is decent. Obviously for the cost of this you can't compare to a D-box or something like that, but it's plenty good for home use. The pedal plate and wheel deck are the biggest weak points imo, but you can completely rectify those with just a few pieces of aluminum profile. So figure in an extra $150 and you can make it rock solid and more customizable to your needs. I ran a 12nm dd on it for a year, and am now running the SC2 Pro, so yeah, it can handle a DD. :). I'm a good 15 months in on mine and still a fan big fan of it, so always recommend with the caveat that it will need a few tweaks.
I have an H3 and have no complaints. I have a Fanatec DD1 with just the basic wheel mount bars and sure you get some front an back sway if your not holding onto the the wheel but who plays like that? So long as you're driving with your hands on the wheel you feel plenty stable, they do sell a stabling bar but honestly i don't feel i need it. The build quality is sufficient for daily use. If you expect long hours of use get the P3(P6), i use mine a couple hours a day and the H3 is plenty good, motors only get luke warm after use. I use the shaker kit too and it's awesome. You can feel the gear shifts in ACC thump under you, you can feel the suspension hitting left and right side, totally awesome. Don't bother with the dampers, waste of money really, i have dampers on my gas pedal only, i noticed very little affect on the motors. With the new motors from what i hear the back lash issue is resolved. TBH i have the original motors and they're perfectly fine for racing sims, If your playing say MFS then you may want some smoother motion, which you'll have if you order as they all come with the new motors now.
Do you have some vr movement cancellation going on, because I noticed that as you move around in real life from your rig, your view doesn't move to much in the game wich is good. How did you do this? And what about that pimax, are you liking it?
I don't currently have any motion cancellation going on. The only time it seems like an issue to me is in RaceRoom, but maybe I have the settings too high, not sure. I don't ever notice any issues in any of the other sims, but if I find a good deal on a tracker, I'll probably try it out just to see. If you do add a tracker, the rig comes with a mount for one, but it mounts on the wheel deck and would hit my monitors. So I would just find a way to mount the bar to the back of my seat. As for the Pimax, I love it! It was a bit of a pita for the first few weeks. But now I have a system, and as long as I follow that, it's all good. lol. You will need a base station with it. It will work in 3dof without a base station, but you'll get excessive drift and have to recenter every lap. But the large fov is just awesome, and 120hz is a much bigger jump in smoothness than I was expecting. I fully plan on moving to an 8kx after a pc upgrade. :)
Do you use motion cancelling with the pimax? Having a bare pimax with one lighthouse and no controllers, since I only use it for Simracing and flying. Now that I am getting a H2 Rig, I am afraid, I have to buy any controller to cancel the motion.
I wouldn't worry about mc too much with just the H2. I tried getting it to work for a long time with both the vive tracker and an index sword controller. Neither are great if you have any bass shakers, though without bass shakers they might be fine. But there's a new device that's in beta testing with SRS that seems to have good potential. It's only $30 so no big investment. I just got mine configured last week but haven't really tested it yet. Either way, you'll be fine without at first for sure. Can look into the options after settling in if you feel you need it for crests really, which it can be helpful for.
Hey Bryan, the stock bars are definitely the big weakness of the dof platform. It's kind of a shame they haven't improved it yet tbh, but for the money it's still a great rig and not that big of a deal tbh. Most people are just installing a piece of 8020 now to just completely replace them. Others are grabbing a piece of 1 inch square tubing from Depot and just attaching behind it as reinforcement. I took a slightly different approach as I wanted to create an inverted pedal mount at the same time, so used profile to accomplish that. You can check that out here. th-cam.com/video/G8W1aycDoY8/w-d-xo.html But honestly, increasing the upright stiffness is extremely minor compared to the value of the H3. If you run into any issues let me know. There's also a huge FB group with more info than you could ever want on them. Have fun! :)
i just buy a h3 for my daily racing after work i drive with a pimax too i got the 8k super vision do you have spezial pi tool settings? i am going to customize the h3 when it comes wite with decent led
Congrats! Hopefully you love as much as I do. Plenty of way to customize and mod this rig. For PiTools I'm now running at 1.5 and Steam VR at 50%. There's s belief that that increases the sweet spot, and they might be right, not positive, but either way the performance is the same at 1.0/100%. Other than that, must normal settings and wide fov. Obviously your GPU will determine SS and game settings though. Good luck!
Hey Bruce. It's a Sparco Evo. Not sure this model is sold new anymore. Picked it up from a race car part out. It's pretty comfy after adding a little extra bottom padding.
Looks like you have a DD wheel. Any movement in the frame? Is the wood reinforcement for the pedal platform? Can you feel rumble strips? Thinking about getting this or building one. Thanks
Yes, I'm running a Simplicity SW12C wheel at full 12nm. There is certainly some flex in the wheel deck, but it would be there when with a T150 tbh. It's honestly just not the best design, but the wood supports have completely removed my concerns. I'll most likely be replacing that section with some aluminum profile in the very near future, but that's more for looks as I just hate the wood. Or I could just paint the wood black and call it a day. Either way, it's not something I'm any longer worried about like when I first installed it. Yes, depending on settings, you can feel as much or as little road detail as you want. I'm 99% sure rumble strips come through in my current config, but I'll verify for you. Overall it's a wonderful rig. Does it have the rigidity of a P1-X or whatever? Not even close. But I don't think that's removed any of the enjoyment, or even been perceptible to me while actually driving. I also looked (briefly) into a diy, but the simplicity of a proven and tested rig with custom software that's actually good was just too easy. It's also future upgradable to 6dof if that ever becomes something I want, though I seriously doubt it as the traction loss is perfectly suited for racing. Any other questions, feel free to ask.
Thanks. Do you think that the P3 would be any improvement? I think the frame is the same? I plan on using it driving so feeling the rear wheels is important. Can you tell the rear end coming loose. But I do plan on flying some.
@@cdrseabee The frame between the H3 and P3 is identical. Only difference is P3 has motors rated for heavier duty/commercial use. I think they said more than 6 hours per day represents commercial use. I wanted to go that way, but just too big of a price jump for me. You definitely feel the rear traction loss. It's instant and nicely translates what the car is doing. It's saved me from losing the car several times already. I originally planned on going H6, but after chatting with other owners, the consensus was the H/P6 was ideal for flight, while the H/P3 was ideal for driving. I'd still love to find out what the 6 feels like as you would gain true heave and surge, but not sure if it could match the traction loss which I enjoy.
Hi, i’m getting my p6 at the end of the week and plan to rig a DD2 with 25nm and i’m pretty concerned about the rigidity of the wheel support... Could you post a picture of how you reinforced the stand? Did you see they have an option at DOF with an extra arm for the wheel? Did you try it by any chance?
You're definitely going to want to reinforce the wheel support. I have seen the DOF version and while I'm sure it helps, I did not want a bar between my legs. I don't think you can post pics in TH-cam replies, so I'll grab a short video tonight of what I did and upload it. Might be easier to understand that way. I'm very happy with it though.
So many upgrades since this video !!! Thank you so much. Your reversed pedals setup looks awesome ! I’m actually trying to find the aluminium type of profiles you used in my country... it looks very reliyable. I’ll switch my comments to your other video for others to follow. Thanks again
Can't decide between the H3 or P3. DOF Reality says the H3 is suitable if you simrace 4 hours or less daily. Which would be fine, if it were just me. But then I'm thinking "what if my wife gets into it?". Or I have friends come over and they want to race. Do you have any regrets getting the H3 over the P3?
I'd definitely get the H3. If I was going to spend P3 money. I'd put it towards the H6 instead. Remember, when they say P for 4+ hours/day, they mean more than 4 hours every single day, 7 days a week like in an arcade or something. I use mine a lot, and almost every night, and have never had an issue. So sure, the P motors are heavier duty, but unless you plan on 3 hours stints followed immediately by 3 hour stints by the wife, 6 days a week, it's just not worth it imo. I also haven't seen any complaints from other H uses in the chats. That said, it's your money, and if you feel better going with the heavier duty motors, go for it. ;)
Hi Matthew. Since this video there's been a lot more testing and I have indeed added some roll at this point. The order you add effects can skew your results, so I think I have a better process now, and that does include roll. Yaw however is not needed as that's covered by traction loss, which should be your main setting to tune after pitch imo. Hope that helps. I'll post some updates soonish with new settings and thoughts.
@@obscurelyf I'll have to check my settings when I'm back on tomorrow and let you know, but quite a bit now. Was driving the Cayman GT4 CS the other day at Nords and dropped into Karussell and the hard left drop was fantastic! Had to crank my neck to keep horizon level. Was an awesome moment on the rig. :) Yaw is definitely unused in driving. Traction Loss handles all of the rear end movement.
I gotta be honest, I haven't tried it yet. I can hear your eyes rolling from here. lol. I grabbed some RaceRoom footage last night and it didn't record the audio. 🙄 So I'll redo it tonight and run 5 or so different cars through there as a comparison of how it handles the motion with different suspensions.
