FYI. NOS is the name of a company that provides N2O systems you are referring to. We all know exactly what you meant. The first, fast and the furious movie, I believe made calling nitrous, NOS. N.O.S. Nitrous Oxide Systems. Check them out.
Give this man a gold medal 10 stars or whatever for being the first person to put one of these toy V8 motors in an RC car and put it on UTube you're the first I've seen I wonder when someone was gonna do it.
The full size counterpart has teflon strips on the leading edge of the rotors to seal them against the case. Given your abilities and tools you maybe able to make something similar that would help with the rotor clash.
I would have looked at gearbox from an HPi savage. The gears are metal from the factory, it has a 3 speed upgrade option and it’s already designed to be mounted between frame rails. I would have kept the slipper clutch, it takes the shock out of the gears on the upshift since there is no other place to allow slippage to soften the shock load.
You so need to take it out to a parking lot for a quick rip! I love this project, and your machine skills are impressive, I hope that the blower doesn't shred itself and even worse your new motor to bits, keep it up brother all love!
That supercharger's tiny intake and exhaust ports are going to choke it. I guess the engine's tiny intake ports are also too small too. Maybe some CNC porting now that you have a broken engine to experiment with?
Very cool retrofit for the super-charger. Seems like you have a pretty good ratio on the drive.. very snappy! Just the fact that you now drive it off the back of the crank will most likely make it more reliable. Well done Johnny!😉👍👍
You know whatd be cool? You make an old realistic model of like a 1970s charger or older muscle car and put that in there to make it a functioning model. Another thing is woth the rotary engines you should make a 13 rotor like the one made irl. Thatd be fukin awesome, id pay big money to see a minature 12 rotor😂
Omg,with that supercharger on there, that thing is wicked quick! But you’re right, heard those rotors clanging against each other at speed and the rear tire closest to the camera isn’t balanced at ALL,the other one doesn’t seem that bad however! I LOVE watching this build Man! Well done so far!❤
Ever think about building a turbocharger? They make mini turbocharger keychains that are actually functional and rated for heat/flow. It's got a turbine housing, connected turbine and compressor wheels and everything. I think it'd be awesome.
Second this... Maybe not the keychain one unless they're already balanced and capable of tens of thousands of RPM. Might be quicker to find something else or start from scratch (which would be extremely involved and likely too difficult). All in all I'd love to see a miniature turbo V8 or even less cylinders in an RC car 😀
I need to research this, as it wouldn't surprise me if something already exists. I haven't been into RC cars since the 90s and therefore have limited knowledge of the past 25yrs progress.
There are some brake kits for 1/5 scale you could probably get ideas from. I ran hydraulic brakes on my mechatech but they also have cable actuated sets.
When you decide to use the reverse feature built in I highly advise you make very certain the car is at a full stop and at idle. I have trashed many reverse gears in my revo that I converted it to forward only with a center diff and then brushless. Also I eliminated first gear.
I also did this. The unplanned 1st gear delete mod is only good for powerglide skids in Aus burnout cars. 130+mph wheel speeds, with blown, methanol sucking 600-1200+HP, 1k+ torque V8s that skip first gear no worries are way off topic. Bed time 😅
Been watching since the micro turbine days, everytime I see a new vid in my feed I instantly click and watch. Keep up the great work! Would love to see a lathe tour at some point as I have been considering getting one
Here's my two bit: Ditch the gearboxes. Too much hassle with them. Switch to V-belt pulleys. Modify a quality servo to not have a stop (continuously spun either direction, preferably one with a very smooth output) and connect it directly to the V pulley set that's adjusted to make the belt slip inner or outer more. If it works for really fast engine (via clutch) it will work just fine for this. You can use a square fiber reinforced rubber gasket for this to mimic an actual V belt. If you look them up in a catalog, you'll likely find something in an application with high pressure (they're made to work so that pressure doesn't stretch them, which is what you want for a drive like this, and its squareness will allow the drive cones to make it work properly vs a round section one. I'm betting it would work better than a geared variant because unlike a geared box, a cone drive doesn't suffer from inertia, which is your biggest enemy when it comes to gears at this size. Too light, and they shatter or get chewed if they move too fast, too heavy and you bend things when the gears mesh.
Love that it started to make a real blower sound. Would greatly improve performance with modern style Hihelix rotors whether they be interference or not. And making sure if they do you have a decent coating of fuel along the whole rotor. Same as what we do full scale on our 6 and 871 blown race boats haha
15:30 Something isn't right with their sync/mesh/bearings and tolerances are allowing the strikes. Try dye on the rotors and see where they are hitting maybe. If it is gearset slop, boy those are small. But helicals would be great.
A way to measure the output power with and without the supercharger could be interesting, maybe you could hook a motor and a variable load to do some basic testing. Nice work with the machining of the parts!
A while back, I had a 1/5 scale FG clone I wish I could have done all of this to. If there is a way to cycle oil through the system to keep that supercharger from eating itself, that thing is going to be a beast. Looking forward to seeing the progress
Yet more proof that no matter what size it is, a V8 with a supercharger will always sound awesome.
.....but never as good as a turbocharged V12
@@toolbaggers I mean, V12s in general just sound heavenly by nature, so there really isn't much competition there.

@@toolbaggers turbos muffle the good engine sounds
this super charger is so loud you can't really hear the engine anymore, kind of sadge

Exactly what I was thinking
not all do. its a option to have teflon on the rotors
The rotor slap needs to be addressed via fixing the slop in the blower’s gearset or changing some clearences. Teflon strips will only help performance
@@bigiron4018 I never considered that. I've never seen a blower with enough play in the gear set to cause it.
Absolutely incredible mini super charged v8 😂❤vnit
Your machining skills are impeccable sir
I hate commercials but this one about JLC3DP was spot on...
That compressor sure sounds awesome!

Have you ever considered selling these?
its gonna be like 20k minimum, the engine alone is like $5000
its ridiculous
@@PneumaticFrog The engine is at most 1500

With the amount of custom work you already have to do, you might as well use their engine as a template and make one yourself but better lol.
Right!!! I agree!!!
Love every video as I live vicariously through your skills!

Good stuff! You should try a boost gauge on it, just to see what it's doing.
You'd have to have a very sensitive gauge for the tiny amount that would be putting out
there's more passion for engineering here than there is enjoyment for the hobby. i can completely understand and respect it 👌
