Floor sang more than just opera on Beste Zangers. She performed 8 songs over the shows run last year. All of them are amazing.

Since this is your first Nightwish experience, here are some info that may help you navigate (a short history of the band, concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a female fronted symphonic metal band. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrulmentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just saw her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

Being able to play an sing like that after a hour. An still have 40 minutes left. The whole concert in front of 82,000 people is worth a watch.
Over 20+ years of material. Three different singers, 2 different bass players. 2 different drummers. No radio play. Anyone of these would be the kiss of death for most bands. Instead nightwish just keeps getting better an bigger. They have something for everyone. Epics like this an others. Heavy, just pure metal. Then soft ballads. Then just some fun campfire songs. Not a cookie cutter or filler song in any album.
Toumas and Nightwish do whatever they like. No formula. Floor sings whatever she wants. No limits, Creativity and virtuosity is off the charts.
When you're crowdsurfing at Wacken, you get carried to the front, exit stage right, and the bathrooms are right there. So yes, that is how you get to the bathroom.

The music is called symphonic metal and is very populair in Europe and South America. The band is from Finland and founded in 1996. So far the band has had 3 vocalists
1 Tarja Turunen (Finish) pure opera voice also very good live. (until 2005)
2 Anette Olzon (Schwedish) more pop style. fine in the studio but not good live. (until 2012)
3 Floor Jansen* (Dutch) (current). * She is the vocalist you saw in this clip. She has a classical vocal background education and can sing any style she likes from jazz to opera high to growling low. Believe me when i tell you you have not even scratched the surface yet of what she's capable of.

The clip was shot a few months after Floor jointed the band right in the middle of their US leg of the world tour. They asked her to join after tensions between the previous (Anette) vocalist and the rest of the band had rissen so high that they fired her. With close to a year still to go to complete the tour, and their next concert planned 2 day later they, needed a replacement fast. They called Floor because she had toured with them when she was part of the support bands"After Forever" and later "Revamp" on several occasions and they were quiet impressed by her vocals (who would not be?). She only had 2 days, including a flight from the Netherlands to the US, to learn the setlist and only had one rehearsal with the band a couple of hours before her first show and nailed it. Since they were making a documentary about the world-tour a lot of what happened was recorded. “Symphonic metal”? Does Trans Siberian Orchestra fall in this category because that’s what Nightwish reminds me of. Not exactly my normal repertoire of music but Floor Jansen’s voice is unbelievable! Words fail me in trying to describe how good she is.

Guys, Nightwish is one of the biggest metal bands in the world. They exist for 20 years, Floor has been the lead singer since 2012. Their last album, “endless forms most beautiful” sold 9 million copies. Yes, thats millions. Welcome to this rabbit hole.
They didn't reinvent themselves. They just evolved...they kept what worked and brought in new material. This is their best and ultimate form. They are all top class artists. And Floor...Floor can sing ANY style. I haven't heard her do reggae or rap yet but if she wanted she could own that as well. They've been around for 20 years and I've been to their anniversary concert and the entire demographic there. From toddlers to teenagers to adults to older people. And the older people weren't there to escort or simply escort the kids...they sang along with all of us. The BEST BAND!

Thank you so much for playing this song. This band is amazing. I have been a fan for the past 4 years and I am 65 yrs old now. This band covers all age groups. I saw them in concert a couple of years ago and all ages were there. It is sad that we do not have music like this in the US. It makes me happy that reactors like you play their music so they become more well known and to maybe to open peoples minds to different genres of music. They are troopers... In Argentina last year they sang "The Greatest Show on Earth" and "Ghost Love Score" back to back. ""The Greatest Show on Earth" is even longer than GLS, so Floor was a bit winded at times (she also had the flu), but it was still amazing.

I really enjoyed your reaction. I was at that specific concert and it is one of the best memories of my life.
Nightwish tours are pretty intense. And they don't take a week between each concert, it's a matter of a couple days. They play for two intense hours, they play every night as if it was the last before the end of the world. So, it's very demanding. In this case, Ghost love score was two songs away from the end of the show, so all this beautiful voice came out of her after almost a whole concert. But it's no wonder, we are talking about the Valkyrie, Queen Warrior of Symphonic Metal. Thanks, good reaction.
Probably the only 'rock' band I can get my dad to listen to. He's a 74 year old classical music and Lord of the Rings fan since his student time.
Sitting behind a small screen it's already an amazing trip...must have been a mind blowing experience over there. Almost everything in the song,metal,keltic sounds,dreamy part,operatic voice,angelic voice, the great switches between different parts....magic performance.

Nightwish's been around sinse 1996, and the audience is anything from teens to 30+. They were one of the forst to really fuse opera and metal in a fantastic way, true pioneers in music. They are huge in western Europe and places like Brazil.

This video is footage of the worlds largest 3 days long Metal festival in Wacken (northern Germany). There're multiple bands on several stages, some of them playing a few songs, others giving full concerts.

So glad you found this band and song. She has an amazing voice. Another band with an amazing vocal lead singer is Evanescence(Amy Lee). This lady is classically train in piano I believe. But her voice is so beautiful and suited to the band. If these two ladies could find a song to sing together it would be epic.

ahhh Floor, one of the fine quartet of dutch symphonic singers, with Simone Simons (epica), sharon del adel (within temptation) and anneke van giersbergen - all wonderful in their own right and highly recommend them
Nightwish are the pioneers of symphonic metal in my eyes and they show it every time they perform live but the challenge now is who is a better singer between those 4 and the best singer of nightwish (floor, anette olzen and tarja turunen)

The crowd is actually of all ages since this is from a festival with bands of all sorts. Just feels like more of the younger people try to stand infront. I was there in the middle of it all myself and was 29 at the time (guess still young as such).

Can you hear the NW army roaring "more... more" :) You've just scratched the surface here. This was from 2013 Wacken Open Air festival. It was over 90 min. set and every song is different and there were (at least for me) no weak performances. Each song tells a new story in words and music.

This concert was at Wacken Open Air in 2013, a festival in Germany. Altho if Nightwish play a solo concert at a venue this size, it would still be sold out
I been a NW fan since the beginning and I'm from Hawaii. They really didn't drastically change. They have evolved gradually. So their old stuff is not that far off from their newer albums. Its just more cinematic and more orchestrated musically. However, with their versatile sound Floor is perfect for NW because she is a versatile singer. They are one the most popular symphonic metal bands around the world. Tuomas, the keyboardist composes almost all of their music. The man is a genius!
Metal doesn't really have to reinvent itself to attract new people ! What happens is that Metal is like a giant Ocean with many different styles, and once you fall into it, you just go to whatever style suits you the best, regardless of when it aired or when the bands producing it formed. Music is supposed to be untouched by time and that's why we still study and love classical music from centuries ago. And metal is a big example of that, people listen to the music they love, regardless of it's age
This is a great song to start with if you decide to look more into NightWish you will really come to love the band like many of of have they offer so much. I hope you choose to hear more.

A little background - Nightwish was formed in 1996 in Kitee Finland by the keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen, guitartist Emmpu Vuorunen, Tarja Turunen, and drummer Jukka Nevalainen, they played mostly in Finland and added bassist Sami Vanska, hen they started touring outside Finland and were a big hit in Europe, their first show in the US was 2003 at Progpower USA, and then a 25 date tour in 2004. In Oct 2005 they released their singer Tarja which created a big uproar, 18 months later after a search of 25,000 auditiob tapes they choose Swedish singer Anette Olso, and poppy sounding singer, she sang with them until 2012, when she was fired in the middle of their 2012 US tour, Tupmas made the faithful phone call on the road from Salt Lake City to Seattle and got in touch with Floor who was at her sisters wedding, and uttered the faithful words "Learn the Set List in 48hrs"(it's a two hour docutmentary that explains it all, Florr did her first show in Seattle and the rest is History. Nightwish fans range from 8 or 9 all the way up to 70 or 80, so it is very diverse. With Floor and her appearance on Beste Zangers the Nightwish fanbase has increased 100 fold or more, They just release a new live album "Decades Live from Buenous Aires" and their new album is exxpected in Late March or early tour, with a world tour to follow, US Dates to be announced soon.

In the metal community the older bands has huge status even with the younger crowd. Iron Maiden has been around since the 70:s and their crowd is anywhere between 15 and 65. For a metalhead there is no dated music. It’s timeless. In Finland and many other places in Europe, metal is the biggest music genre. Bigger than pop.
Nightwish is amazing sound, great lyrics and reminds of movie music, one of best band from the metal land it self-Finland!
You guys should dive more into metal where the real music talents come from. :) I started listening to Nightwish when i was about 13 years old. I was born in 88 so they have ben around for a good while and had 3 different singers. Tarja and Floor is my type of Nightwish tho.
Wacken is one of the largest Metal-Festivals in Europe. There are about 82k visitors.

Nightwish has always been a Symphonic Metal band, though they have continuously refined their sound over the years. The centralizing figure for the band is Tuomas Holopainen (Keyboardist/Composer/Lyricist). To date, they have had 3 lead vocalists, all female:
Tarja Turunen (1996-2006) was the first and a full lyric soprano. She's gone on to a solo career.
Anette Olzon (2007-2013)was the second and bridged the spaces between Metal, Rock, and Classical. She has also gone solo.
Floor Jansen (2013-current) came in with a Metal background (After Forever and ReVamp; also married to the drummer of Sabaton) but is a classically trained soprano.
The current lineup consists of Emppu Vuorinen (Lead Guitarist and the only other original member beside Tuomas), Marco Heitala (bassist and male vocalist who joined in 2002), Troy Donockley (male vocals/all folk instruments; was a touring musician for them starting in 2007 but joined full time in 2014), Kai Hahto (Drums; was a touring musician for them in the latter half of 2014 but joined full time last year). However, since this concert was recorded in 2013 the drummer here is the original, Jukka Nevalainen who had grown tired of the intensive touring and recording schedules the band has and decided to step back and take on more of a managerial position in the band. The only other full member of the band was Sami Vanska (bassist from 1998-2001) who joined Root Remedy after leaving the band.

It is not 'just their concert', it is a yearly festival called Wacken Open Air (Germany). I guess the 83000+ people are now a Nightwish fan.
Welcome to magical world of Nightwish! Tuomas Holopainen (composer / keyboardist, who makes maybe 95% of their music) might be our time best composer. he is able move our hearts, making music which goes straight to our hearts. And when whole band is playing it, with all their skills, you cannot find better live band. it is not unusual see people cry, sing, jump, smile happily etc in their concerts. All ages people like them, see under school age children and 70 years old people liking their music.

And they really didn't reinvent themselves, more like revived themselves.
First singer Tarja was the same type of singer as Floor and when she left the second singer Annette took over who has a way more popmusic voice which most fans didn't really like, then Floor came and they returned to their original epic sound.
This song was actually sung originally by the first singer (Tarja)... So it literally a song from their original sound.
Metal is still big, my man 🤣 it's just not played on the radio or television.
