The OVAs are some of my favourite episodes, they are so chill and cozy

Fun fact, there's a breed of cat that has silver(ish) fur and green eyes called Russian blue. And here we have Lev (which also means lion btw)

Akihiro Yamauchi, one of the middle blockers in Japan national team said he feels related to Lev the most because he is also started playing volleyball in high school because of his height (he's 204cm now).
This is interesting story because even though we could say physical issue doesn't matter, it's also real that Lev who are totally beginner and basically sucks in volleyball is given a chance to play as starter by the coach.
Just like Yamauchi now is a national team star, yes he did work so hard of course, but chances to a beginner are given unequally, unless you have special physical features like Lev/Yamauchi or natural ability like Hinata, it's harder to get the chance to play in the first place.

dude i love how you point out what kenma was noticing abt lev on the first watch. like lev's jump reach and arm reach. i didnt even realize it until later. at first, i thought the cat scene was just filler scene to show how cute kenma is or how him and lev try to connect with each other. insaneee

I LOVE THIS OVA!!! Nekoma is one of my favorites if not my favorite team(tied up with karasuno obviously) and getting a whole OVA about them made me super happy, i think we get so much more insight on them and im glad you can also appreciate seeing more of them ❤

At first Furudate wanted to make the series so that Karasuno and Nekoma shared the same "screen time", he ended changing it up so that Karasuno are our main characters, I love this but i really wanted to have a bit more of Nekoma

Kenma looks so depressed in this OVA actually😂 he has to endure the attention of the new guy, tosses don't work with him, can’t win the game, also got his nose broken...
however, symbolism in haikyuu is one of the best things about it. I'm really waiting for the s2, it reveals background characters, adds new ones and changes the perception of those we already know👀

The older coaches (Nekoma's coach, Aoba Johsai's coach, and even old coach Ukai) are very old school style Japanese coaches. They provide structure and advice, but rather than telling their students what they need to do, they guide them and let them figure things out on their own.

Unfortunetly for Inuoka - his name means "Dog hill" - poor guy is a dog on a team of cats :D
After hearing your talk about change - I feel like you might really enjoy Blue Lock - I feel like you would really relate to someone in that anime
As for Nekoma not being our main team - originally Furudate planned to make the story about both Nekoma and Karasuno equally but it wasn't working out so instead Nekoma sometimes gets these one off episodes.
I just feel for Inuoka even more now that im reading the manga :< Furudate really put so much care to his characters.
He definitely does seem more like a puppy compared to all the others in the team hahah

- there's a meaning behind the cat scene of Lev (pronounced as /lee•yev•h/ btw) and Kenma
- the Karasuno losing animation is recycled at the end credits scene

it's not pronounced like that. or rather, it's not supposed to be. He's pronouncing it correctly
@@hayatossmirk I think the simple /lev/ is for the English accent, but for the non-English accent it's otherwise, unless my ears aren't hearing well...
@@watisapples Ohhh this is quite a surprise, and what you've elaborated further verifies my previous knowledge that Japanese still do pronounce "L" but VERY RARELY such as in this case.

Fun fact: Kageyama's voice actor is the same as Iida Tenya in My Hero Academia, and Nishinoya's voice is Bakugo's (this one i think you already noticed, based on the MHA reacts hehe). Oh and the game hes playing is Monster Hunter, check videos on the internet you will noticed it has a veryt similar UI, and the fact the kageyama said something about "cut the enemies limbs and dodge atacks" which is what you do in Monster hunter games hahaha

Aww, this was so much fun! I actually hadn't seen this OVA, so this was a first time watch for me, and it was so enjoyable to watch it along with you! I, uh, maybe talk out loud while watching your reactions as though I'm actually having a conversation, and I said "He just needed it higher!" at about the same time you did, so that was pretty funny for me 😂
I was thinking that Lev is a lot like Hinata, just like Kenma thought. Both are first years who are starting volleyball in high school (though Hinata didn't have the team experience, at least he was definitely thinking about playing volleyball for years prior), they both are still learning the basics and aren't very good yet, but they both have very positive attitudes and are driven to train, with dreams of becoming the ace. They also both have raw athleticism that makes them formidable on the court as long as their setter utilizes them to their advantage - Kageyama using Hinata's stamina and speed to run around the court and still manage to jump for every toss, Kenma using Lev's incredible height and reach to bring the ball to a spot only Lev can hit, higher than most blockers he may face.
Lev was pretty cool and seems like he has a heap of talent, so I'm so keen to learn more about him!
Yaaaaay, Lev! Fun fact, one of my cats is named after him (Levochka). 😋
Also as a bonafide cat lady that rescues strays, I take offense to you saying to leave the cat alone cause it'll scratch them. 😆

I think a good part of why Kenma struggles with Lev is because Lev trying to compensate from his previous attempt, while Kenma also adjusts his tosses. And i guess setting him high precise toss eliminates other possibilities, but to jump and hit at the peak.

Yeah like kenma is trying to figure out lev's reach but lev keeps changing how he spikes or his approach or smg, to compensate from previous attempts, so nothing is consistent enough for kenma to understand lol

iirc kenma was(?) considered to be another main character by the author. which is why both kenma and nekoma as so much more present in the show than other teams (also cause they're decade long rivals lmao). but please don't quote me on it, could be that i remember it wrong haha
