    Sorry this took me so long to comment. I’ve been dealing with health issues and not watching YT recently.
    Thanks again for taking care of my razor. It’s got to be one of the best edges I’ve shaved with. But that’s no surprise coming from you. It’s very hard to beat a Dr. Matt edge. If I have any trouble with my other razors I’ll send them along.

    I love my old W&B's. (Matt, you have honed one of them) I have a Sheffield SR and both are near wedge. I seem to get a better shave with those heavier, thicker blades. No blade flex and smooth as butter.

    I've got one of the old Arkansas Blue-Black stones. Its like a bluish gray color and is literally twice as hard as a black "surgical" Arkansas. Interesting stone. Took me 3 weeks of grinding on it with a DMT to get it flat. I have to say its a great finisher, now that I've got the feel of it. Great vid, Doc

    • @drmatt357
      @drmatt357  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve never heard of one of those but the hard Arks will destroy a diamond plate! The best way to flatten them is with SIC powder and a piece of glass. I have a video on the channel doing it.

    • @AHappyBachelor
      @AHappyBachelor ปีที่แล้ว

      @@drmatt357 Yeah, I learned the hard way 😂 I don't think the "blue-black" name is anything technical, its what my grandpa used to call them. He told me they came from a different strata that the black ark stones, but this one is so freaking hard its ridiculous. It took me a year just to figure how best to use it. Even threw some tomo sludge on there a few times, and it handles it well. Its a weird stone to work with.

    Great shave as always Mat , I've not tried a Wade and Butcher , as you said ,often lots of geometry issues , I use black Arkansas after any edge that's too grabby sharp ,it'll give a very kind smooth shave .

      An 8K stone either a Shapton or Norton and a translucent/black Arkansas.

    Dr Matt, I have a Nakayama stone like yours. Got mine from Alex Gilmore in Sonoma Ca. How many passes do you use with the Nakayama.

    Nice old wade!..do you still spray cbn on the jnat or coticules as a last refinement?

      I don't but it's still a valid enhancement.

    Hello Matt, i just started with straight razors, do i need to set the bevel everytime the razor needs to be sharpened again or is it good to do alternating strokes on 3000 grit stones?

    • @drmatt357
      @drmatt357  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don’t need to “set the bevel” every time. That’s a one shot deal. When I sharpen my razors after they’ve been used for a while, I only go 8000 then a finish stone be it a 12000 Naniwa Super Stone or a natural stone like a coticule.

  • @LeonidasGarcia08
    @LeonidasGarcia08 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Matt, so I was reviewing your videos on how to sharpen your SR and I got a stone that you could only really do X strokes on. Is it ok to do only X strokes instead of halves on the 8,000 grit?

    • @drmatt357
      @drmatt357  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You betcha! The other strokes are more aggressive and more so for lower grit stones but I do it out of habit. You may need to do more Xs only than I do with the other types combined.

    Hey Dr. Matt I have a problem! I honed my razor and realize I now have a curve in the blade where my finger was putting more pressure in that one area. So now the blade is bowed up toward the spine if you were to set it blade edge down. It's not major, but I can still see a little light coming through. Please HELP!!!

    • @drmatt357
      @drmatt357  ปีที่แล้ว

      Where were you putting pressure on the blade, in the center or half way between the toe and heel?

    • @bearbenton5945
      @bearbenton5945 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@drmatt357 I was putting my fingers halfway between the middle of the blade and the tip, so 3/4ths of the way up the blade. That's where it's curved in as well.
