I'm in the military and have to shave everyday and I don't have a lot of time to do it. I've been trying for months to find the best and closest with the grain shave that is also very quick. Right now I am using Gillette fusion proshield with power flexball shaft and cremo cooling shave cream and the whole session usually only takes about 3 minutes. I think my setup is just okay, I feel like I can do better (in terms of finding a closer shave that takes just as much time). Any suggestions? Do not suggest shaving against the grain, I won't do it. Thank you.
From a former 68W(medic) who frequently seen shaving ailments, I can help you along. If speed is your thing, go with shaving oils. Plain olive oil or jojoba oil if you're cheap. Just a few drops will do ya. No need for shaving cream in this case. I would also upgrade your razor to a safety razor, either a Merkur 34c HD or Edwin Jagger DE89 with Astra blades, Derby blades if you want to be careful. You might be slow at first from the learning curve, the safety razors don't have pivoting heads, but will soon take as much time as the Fusion. Shave with down and side strokes for the closest shave without risk. As you've said, no up strokes. Also, a good aftershave helps keeps your skin in shape after the trauma of shaving. Follow these suggestions and you'll show up to inspection baby faced and at 1600 hrs as well.
Safety razor and soap or cream. There Are types specially desgined for people with sensitive skin. Use an after shave cream without alcohol aswell. Safety razor is best because its only 1 blade passing over your skin. Helps big time.
@@TheFrontyer I use fusion 5 and mach 3, although both have multiple blades, those blades are a fraction of millimeter inside the boundary of the blade, so there no contact of steel with the skin (unless you are pressing too hard or going too fast), even though the shave is so close because the blade pulls and cuts the hair at the same time, and the preceding blades cuts the already pulled hair and thus giving a closer shave, if you will go too fast you may pull the skin also to get the cut, whereas in a safety razor the blade is always in contact with the skin which causes razor burns

Probably a very expensive one, too, since you need to rub that gel for every pass... which will deplete any tube very quickly. With a good shave soap, you generate all the lather you need once, then use it for all the passes of that shave. And a single brush loading can usually be done hundreds of times on a hard soap.

Either a problematic interaction with the fragrance material, or not enough water in the lather, or pressing too hard with razor. I had an irritation problem with a certain soap and believed the problem was very consistent; until one day I tried making a wetter lather with the suspect soap. Far less irritation! So you have some options to look at.
I just bought the Leaf razor, which is a hybrid razor that uses the same blades you load into a traditional safety razor, but has a spring loaded flexible/pivoting head Iike many cartilage razors and also holds up to three blades. Can anyone recommend what type/consistency of shave soap/cream/lotion might be best suited for this system?
I'm currently trying out the Defender cartridge razor and I used Cremo for the first 2 shaves, but it left my skin irritated so I just tried a shaving gel and it seems to be a better marriage. It could be that my skin is just a bit more sensitive or the more basic way the razor cartridge is designed and the gel/way it lathers provides a bit more protection from it, but it is a 3 blade cartridge razor that have the blades a bit more spaced out and some flexibility..... Not the same for sure, but seems similar To the Leaf and I'll bet they both cut similarly too! So give a good shaving gel (like from a can) a try instead. Niva has a bunch of options, maybe give them a try and go from there if the gel style does end up being an improvement for you. Good luck!
pro tip: most ppl use way too much canned gel product: a quarter size is plenty. A 2-pk of name brand for $7 will last a yr. Its actually a good value.
Yeah I suppose it will if you’re only shaving once ever 10 days or even once a week, but for those of us who shave several times a week and shave other areas of our bodies, we go through more than 2 cans per year. Being conservative I go through about 1 can every 2 months!
I believe this. Taking a soaked, wet but squeezed brush, a small squirt or two of canned lather INTO the brush lets you make a good face lather or head lather. Add whatever more water as necessary to build the lather. People seem to overlook this.
A safety razor is way better it gives a superior shave and doesn't irritate the skin as much as a disposable since it has 1 quality blade instead of 2 or 3 low quality blades. Its also cheaper in the long run
I'm just growing my first full beard, though I'm almost 38. I'm curious on the best option, aside from the barber, for doing my neck and cheek lines. Also, as an idea for a video, why do they call it a safety razor?
Hey no joke here. I have a very corse beard. And i often use a good hair Conditioner. It soooo smooth and makes my hair soft. Rinses clean AND leaves my skin smooth ans soothed.
Hi, thank you for the info. What about shaving gel? What do you think about it, and how does it really work? How can I direct message you? Thank you. Shawn.
NO reason! Just preference or cost. Take a wetted but squeezed brush. Squirt a small amount of the canned stuff into the tips end. Start a head or face lather; add in whatever amount of water builds the lather well enough for you.
@@Bondfinesse its not a political opinion. It has notching to do with politics. It has to do with the brands manipulative behavior and wrong expression of masculinity.

That Noxzema ad though....loved it lol, good video more in-depth than others and not bias, love my Nivea men shave gel because it’s the only one that’s actually working on my skin. I find the foams just don’t have the slickness that a gel gives.
Good video, but he missed on a few things for sure. The first big thing he misses on is his "rule", a shave cream must make your skin supple. I think the more accurate term is slickness. The most important part of a "shave cream" is slickness, and truly that is all that matter. If you are a shower shaver that uses cart razors, you can simply use hair conditioner like OGX, it works perfect. A slick hair conditioner is better than canned "shave cream". The canned "creams" are canned air and chemicals, it's bad. Slickness is all you need....I haved shaved using glycerin bar soap. I have also shaved with coconut oil and it worked fine. You just need slickness, that's it. I am a head and face shaver and I like using the hard soap shave pucks most. Shave soaps in hard puck format like Tabac last a LONG time and work great just by adding water to the lather. In my opinion everyone should be shaving with a safety razor. Cartridge razors are expensive, bad for your skin, and they are TERRIBLE for the environment. Folks, please stop using cartridge razors. At least use a DE safety razor. If you are transitioning from cartridge razors to safety razor I suggest these three razors in order. #1. Henson AL13 mild #2 TWIG safety razor by Leaf #3 Rockwell 6C.

Not the same for sure, but seems similar To the Leaf and I'll bet they both cut similarly too! So give a good shaving gel (like from a can) a try instead. Niva has a bunch of options, maybe give them a try and go from there if the gel style does end up being an improvement for you. Good luck!
What is the name of this shaving brush?
pro tip: most ppl use way too much canned gel product: a quarter size is plenty.
People seem to overlook this.
most informative video so far
Are disposable razors ok?
A safety razor is way better it gives a superior shave and doesn't irritate the skin as much as a disposable since it has 1 quality blade instead of 2 or 3 low quality blades. Its also cheaper in the long run
This depends what you want for "ok". Disposable razors are more than "ok" for head shaves. I find them, to not be as pleasant for face shaves.

I'm just growing my first full beard, though I'm almost 38. I'm curious on the best option, aside from the barber, for doing my neck and cheek lines. Also, as an idea for a video, why do they call it a safety razor?
They call it that because it's hard to get cut with them
Because they’re much safer than strait razors, which was the only method of shaving before safety razors came around.
Thank you. Shawn.
im not shawn but i can say shave gel is significantly more comfratable for me than anything else but i have very insensitive skin
What is the reason why you can’t use the pressurized can with the safety razor?
NO reason! Just preference or cost. Take a wetted but squeezed brush. Squirt a small amount of the canned stuff into the tips end. Start a head or face lather; add in whatever amount of water builds the lather well enough for you.
Nice video, btw.
Very good video! I own all those products. Question: why did you choose to Black-out brand names?
Jim King does not want to promote the brands maybe.
Yeah, I was wondering the same thing?
No reason to advertise them if he is not being paid for it.
BTW, the cream is Taylor of Old Bond Street, and the soap is Proraso. The latherless cream is Cremo, and the aerosol can is Garbage!
Shaving gel is definitely the most comfortable
Soap is the most luxurious
I used Nivea which I hated it made red dots on my skin. I think Brut or Gillette are quite good and you can find in any Walmart.
Gillette is a man hating over priced shit brand. Her a safety razor and soap or cream. Nothings better.
@@TheFrontyer "Man hating" hahahah
@@TheFrontyer No need to bring your political opinion in on this video about shaving creams
@@Bondfinesse its not a political opinion. It has notching to do with politics. It has to do with the brands manipulative behavior and wrong expression of masculinity.
@@TheFrontyer It has everything to do with it, depending weather you consider yourself a Liberal or a Conservative and how you respond to what Gillette was trying to say, conservatives don't want to go into the 21st century and they don't like change or when things become fair for ALL. Toxic masculinity is real and has been going on for far too long, the spotlight needed to be shined on it for the opportunity for those that condone it,practice it, or push it to make a change within themselves and be better people by being enlightened.
is it okay to use a soap or cream with brush and bowl to shave with a cartridge razor or I must stick with canned cream/gel?
100% OK!
@@MrChrisjharris Thank you!
No established restrictions of this sort! Use what set of products you want!
That Noxzema ad though....loved it lol, good video more in-depth than others and not bias, love my Nivea men shave gel because it’s the only one that’s actually working on my skin. I find the foams just don’t have the slickness that a gel gives.
I find foams generally do not get attached on the skin as good as gels do. Except for the great Noxzema Yellow foam.
"Canned creams are pricier". Um, no. Can of Barbasol costs me $2 and lasts MONTHS.
You can get a Puck of soap for 1 dollar and it will last you 3 times your barbasol
@@StGeorgedragonhunter I'm just finishing my first puck and it's been a solid 2-3 yrs.
@@qutuveo6332 It's probably cheap Williams.
@@jackshayler8895 i dont know what it does better
What shave soap do you guys prefer? Currently using vanderhagan, it’s fine
Soap for safety razor. Cream for cartridge razor. I stopped using cans about 5 years ago.
Good material. Presented well. But please, lose the annoying music. It adds nothing to your presentation and distracts from the content.
Thanks for the constructive feedback - much appreciated.
canned shave cream and latherless shave cream SQuad!!!
And the reason for not sharing the brands???
The static cut is way too loud
You should have applied more tape
I mean barbasol is 2 bucks a can at dollar general. I’ve used it with a Fusion and DE saftey razor. Works just fine😊
You are so obviously shilling for Gillette, come on man.
For God so loved the world he gave his one and only Son so that whoever believes in him will not perish but have everlasting life ✝️
OK, but what's his shaving regimen?
I am deaf after the static
Shaving oil cheap brilliant shave
Lol
Shave soap is too dry for me.
Add more water! Depending on chosen soap, 0.4 grams of soap can take one and half teaspoons worth of water.
Soap is best for md. Closest shave ever. Just. Normal nivea soap. Wet face first to open pores. Then soap away closest shave ever, bar none.
Looks like
Prorasso
Geo F Trumper
Cremo
Ace OfFades it looks more like TOBS sandalwood to me.
Somdut Roy you're probably right
Aveeno canned goo?
Lol he taped the Taylor of old bond street
... but the G*llett* razor logo is fully visible...
Am I the only one who laughed out loud (assuming this is (like me) your first video from him that you’re seeing? It’s called for MEN, and then he starts talking and while I expected him to sound like that, it’s still funny to see a channel with a name that includes “MEN” and hear someone who sounds more like a WOman or a homosexual (to be fair for all intents and purposes they’re the same exact thing IMO) instead of a MAN!! I mean I don’t really care that he’s gay, I was simply pointing out the irony that’s all!!
