Denmark is basically the nordic equivalent to the UK - a shadow of the nations former glory. I'm glad that Iceland and Norway gained independence - albeit the norwegians had to wait another century before it happened.
Fun fact: Both Iceland and Norway's national days celebrates the independence from the Denmaek - being like what Canada and the US is to Britain. Denmark and the UK are also the only countries in the world who doesnt have a national day, because of both countries imperial past - Denmark in a much smaller scale though.

What nonsense! You clearly do not know the historical facts regarding Denmark and Iceland.

Wasn't the Chief of Police , marching at the head of his column, a confirmed nazi ? I do believe that he became the administrator of an institution called Sólvangur in Hafnarfirði in the 1960s around the time that I lived in Iceland.

You might be talking about Agnar Kofoed Hansen but the PM sent him to Germany to learn from Himmler's police, but wasn't a Nazi... nor worked in Sólvangur....as far as I can trace...

Ok, thanks. I must have gotten things a little confused. Unfortunately, my parents, aunts and uncles are all dead now, so I can't run anything by them. I'll take your word for it. Thanks for your reply.

I still have questions about those days. Heinrich Himmler was the Reichsfurer of the SS and was a main designer of the Holocaust. He was in charge of the Schutzstaffel that wore the black uniforms and were referred to as the " political soldiers of the Nazi party". Why would the Prime Minister send Hansen to learn from Himmler's police ? Was Himmler supposed to teach him how to round up Jews and other undesirables in Iceland in anticipation of Germany taking over there ? If he wanted to study regular police work, he could've sent him to the US, for instance. My father studied at the Heidelberg college in the late 30s before going to America to continue his studies. That doesn't make him a Nazi, but Himmler wasn't focused on ordinary every day police work. That's why I still have questions. Thanks for getting back to me.

@@williamgunnarsson and the Americans would have taught him how to round up Italians, Germans and Japanese. An Icelander would likely feel more comfortable in another Lutheran nation.
