@@SmaxChristopher1 Yes, indeed. Iceland was discovered and settled by Vikings from Scandinavia (mostly Norway) but also from the Vikings settlements in Faeroes, Orkney, Shetland, Scotland and Ireland. Some Irish monks may have gotten there earlier, but Vikings brought their families and created permanent settlements. The Viking Age in Iceland was chronicled and celebrated in the Íslendingabók and Landnámabók, and in numerous sagas. From Iceland, Viking seafarers ventured further, settling Greenland, and at least briefly establishing a foothold in Canada. But of course, as time passed, the sea-raiding Vikings were transformed into sedentary farmers, pastoralists, and fisher-folk, and the Age of Vikings faded into memory. However, Icelanders have always remained proud of their Viking origins, and Viking symbolism is a theme of Icelandic society. The Icelandic language is actually closer in grammar and vocabulary to the Old Norse of the Viking era than are the modern Scandinavian languages of Swedish, Danish and Norwegian. Icelanders can actually read the Old Norse sagas. Sometimes, when people today use the word "Scandianavia," they include Iceland and Faeroe, while others restrict the term exclusively to Sweden, Denmark and Norway.
