    Merphy talked a lot about Big Mom mirroring the idea of sake, but so does Kaido. Rather than using it to unite people like Joyboy, he uses sake to drown his sorrows after his failed attempt to become Joyboy.

    • @velvet5749
      @velvet5749 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Exactly. And if the one piece really is Sake to bring together all the races, Kaido and Big Mom just becomes way more significant as both carry a "key" to the one piece. I think Merphy hit on something quite interesting there, I think the four Emperors are supposed to represent different aspects of Luffy's character. kaido is a failed joyboy (inherited will), big mum is a failed version of Luffy's end goal, Blackbeard is a failed version of the path to the goal and I think whitebeard was a failed Pirate King ( by which I mean he was Pirate King in all but name) and I'm not sure for shanks yet. 3 and a half hrs of One Piece videos in one sitting?! Sounds like an average day on TH-cam for me 🤣🤣
    AMAZING job going through them all as first time reader they all have a LOT of info to go through! I think I may know more One Piece history than normal world history at this point😋
    Don't worry about missing/forgetting things! In a story such as One Piece, we always feel like we're constantly discover things we didn't know before! That's what makes theorizing so fun and such a constant possible activity. Even the comment sections of these videos have takes that are fun and intriguing to read even if you wouldn't think that would happen!
    I also agree about not caring what the One Piece is overall which is exactly what makes the theory videos fun to watch. We all have our preferences for an ending but the journey TO the ending matters much more than the end. All in all I agree that Bink's sake is a HUGE connection to our answer and that some type "party" or unification of the races is in order for the goal of Joyboy, Roger, and Luffy to be achieved!
    Glad you're slowing starting to dip your toes into the HUGE pool that is the One Piece TH-cam community!☺

    I really like the idea of the four emperors being here as exemples of "almost-joyboys". Kaido seemingly had expectations to fulfill that role but couldn't for some reason, Big Mom with her dreams of bringing everyone together, Whitebeard actually bringing people together but without any ambition towards the entire world. Shanks and Blackbeard are more mysterious for now, but it seems like Shanks set out to find the next Joyboy, while Blackbeard is the complete opposite of what Joyboy should be.

      I have a micro-theory in my head about this! I think the Emperors saw some sort of prophecy about what it takes to be Joyboy and they followed it in their own way. Big Mom collecting people of all races for instance, but because they saw this prophecy they made assumptions about it. Luffy on the other hand refuses to acknowledge any advanced information like Zeffs log book and wants to experience the whole thing for himself which ultimately doesn't spoil the concept of Joyboy for him which allows him to truly become Joyboy. It's a vague theory but it's swirling around my head with all the other stuff and maybe someday it'll bump in to another idea that explains it better...

    Artur's theory is made of multiple parts and in previous ones he argues that the reason why the Three Ancient weapons are so important is because one of them will bring the destruction of the Grand Line and the Calm Belts, uniting the world in One Piece and creating the All Blue.
    That's also why Shirley in Fishman Island predicted that Luffy will destroy the island, because destroying the Red Line would destroy it as well (since is right beneath it) but Luffy will use Noah and Shirahoshi's powers to take every Fishman to land, finally making us all live under the same sun, which was JoyBoy's promise to the first Mermaid Princess long ago.
    Ps:. Since Shirahoshi wasn't born the time Roger lived, he couldn't do this, this one of the reasons he arrived too early.

    I believe One Piece is Bink's Sake specifically as well. I've played a lot of JRPGs and other video games heavily influenced by Japanese culture and mythos, and Sake, often aged sake is frequently a recurring concept, even if they only use it in minor ways. Considering that as the series has progressed, Oda has dived more and more in to Japanese mythos specifically, it wouldn't surprise me.
    It would also explain why Roger was too early in a funny way. The sake hadn't aged enough yet! Considering the themes of ending sagas with a party, the idea that we would end the series with a party, with the one piece, with bink's sake is great to me.
    The first time Blackbeard and Luffy met, they disagreed over foods and drinks. :)

    One of my personal favourite One Piece theories is the Wano-Oars theory
    The idea is that the country of Wano was actually built by Oars or his ancestors and the evidence is that back in Thriller Bark Oars was called “The Continent Puller”, his race clearly come from Wano, based on the giant skull that is Onigashima and it probably being where Moriah got his corpse, and the actual layout of Wano and it’s regions makes it look more like a bunch of islands clustered together than just one island
    It’s one of those theories that will probably never be relevant or answered one or the other but just the fact that the story has enough breadcrumbs to suggest a history like that is really cool

    My favorite theory is that Blackbeard already has eaten a third devil fruit, but it was his first one which let him eat the other two. He ate an Octopus fruit or the kraken fruit which would also be complimented by the fact that the kraken is considered to be the biggest enemy of pirates in general and Blackbeard is Luffy's biggest rival. Also it would be a Zoan-devil fruit so completes the trio. Octopuses have three hearts...so if devil fruits have something to do with people's hearts then it allows him to eat 3 while others can only have 1. The fact that his jolly roger has 8 bones and 3 heads(8 tentacles and 3 hearts) and the darkness power can be seen as ink are some other things i like about this idea.

Also, all Strawhats are integral for them to get to Laugh Tale. As mentioned by Luffy repeatedly, every crew plays an essential role. The most essential member definitely is Robin. That's a steal and shorten their journey by a decade or so.

    1.) *"The Inherited Will"* from Arlong Park Forums (reuploaded on TH-cam by GibaroAndSabana) - one of the greatest and oldest theories in the fandom, this was written all the way back in 2013 and is still completely plausible to this day. Tekking's theory and several others within the community have been based on the ideas that this theory laid out, that's how influential it is.
    2.) *"Kaido's Road Poneglyph and The Real Headquarters"* by Marco One Piece Theorist - from the guy who proved with facts and logic that Kanjuro was the traitor like 6 months before the manga reveal, he made a very interesting prediction about a certain island that's completely flown over our heads this entire Wano saga.
    3.) *"Blackbeard is an OCTOPUS, This Explains EVERYTHING"* by 333VIL - this guy's TH-cam channel is relatively new but he's started to get some attention in the community because of this theory and a couple of other good ones.
    4.) *"Why the Fire Festival Will End in Failure"* by Mr. Morj - this theory has made Morj the most talked-about OPtuber in the community. He's already made 5 videos about this in the 3-year span that Wano Arc has been running, and the theory itself has ascended to meme status. Even now that we're reaching the finale of Luffy vs Kaido, people are still waiting on whether Morj will take a big L or a surprise W in the end.

    Nice video Merphy. To add something about Sanji's flop in hairstyle:
    Sanji's eyebrows curve both to the right side of his face. After the timeskip we got the confirmation that his eyebrows weren't symmetrical (both spiraling outwards) but rather going towards the same side. His Germa siblings have exactly the opposite, their eyebrows go towards the left. What's the difference between them and Sanji? Sanji isn't augmented and he has his emotions. Now, in 1031 and 1034, when Sanji went through the transformation and his body changed we saw something: his eyebrow was now going to the left, just like his siblings!
    That made a lot of people notice some neat details:
    * Sanji's brothers (that means, not Reiju) have shown both eyes, with left-handed eyebrows. All of them have augmentations and no feelings.
    * Reiju has only show his left eye, just like Sanji post-timeskip, and she has the same left-handed eyebrow. But the sneaaaaky cover pages and panels seem to tease that her right eye isn't left-handed, but right handed. What's the difference between Reiju and his three brothers? She has augmentations, but she also has feelings.
    * Since Sanji body changed, we only saw his left eye now just like all the other Germa. But we didn't see his right eye to check if the eyebrow changed too.
    In a summary: If the eyebrow in the left side has the "augmentation" side, and the right eyebrow has the "feelings" side, it could literally be a visual confirmation about Sanji's and all his siblings potential changes and personalities. If Reiju does have his right eyebrow going outwards, and Oda went out of his way to invert Sanji's eyebrow after the Germa awakening, it's quite possible that Oda used a gag seeded on Little Garden (the first time that we knew that both his eyebrows went to the right), to represent personality and powers of Sanji and his Germa siblings.

    I've come to approaching theories as thought experiments more than anything. The Ohara video comes at you strong but it's easy to find where it cherry picks evidence and there are lots of holes you can poke in it when it comes to the way Oda actually writes on a structural and thematic level. But at the same time it's super impressive and there are a lot of good ideas in it. When it comes to crafting those ideas, though, in order to make something so audacious you have to accept that it's just one way to put together the pieces, and you can just as well rearrange the pieces into something completely different but equally impressive. That's the beauty of theory crafting. Rarely are they a good declaration of what *will* happen, but more usefully a love letter to what Oda has done and the possibilities that exist within this world. If you go back in time there are plenty of theories that piece together the pieces in very compelling ways but they end up completely wrong because it's just not what Oda was setting up in reality. But they're still fun, and usually theory crafters aren't trying to make an absolute prediction. Their own videos will contradict themselves because it's less about being consistent and more about the joy of thinking about One Piece and appreciating what Oda gives us (see CrocoMom). Library of Ohara is sort of the standout here. I think he's much more dedicated to determining how it will end definitively and you can tell because he's much less discriminate about the evidence used and he takes Oda's style and sensibilities into account more while making fewer leaps of faith. In my opinion his theory is the safest extrapolation of what Oda has provided to us whereas Ohara is more thought experiment and Tekking is more hypothetical. But all are fun and coexist fine as long as you don't get too sure about what Oda is going to do next.

    • @ninuvids
      @ninuvids 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@unstoppableExodia that’s fair but I feel his approach is the most sensible regardless. I’m not 100% on board with everything, but I do like the party idea in general. Luffy didn’t set out to bring world peace. He set out to have fun and his motivation comes from who he is and the influences he had as a child. I don’t think it’s any coincidence that Oda ends major arcs with party scenes repeating ad nauseam. Whether or not having a massive party is his specific goal, we can be confident that the last conflict WILL end with the biggest party. Take into account that the world government currently segregates people both through a monopoly on violence and through the red line (which, whether man made or not seems likely to come down to open up travel and freedom. It also fits nicely with the potential role of pluton and the all blue and the island whales) and that One Piece has largely been a story about found family and friendship consistently exemplified through party and sharing of drink. It feels almost guaranteed that at the end of the series we’ll have a massive gathering of people brought together as one as the world opens up for the first time in 800 years. The party and Luffy’s dream is incidental. It complements the ending thematically and shows the impact of his will, but the party itself isn’t going to cause world peace. Rather, the dawn of the world which will happen inevitably during Luffy’s adventure and search to become the freest man will open up the possibility. The search for and discovery of the One Piece will lead to the dawn of the world. This has been essentially confirmed numerous times. Luffy’s just the one who’s going to do it because he has the necessary spirit, seemingly sharing the sensibilities of Joy Boy and Roger.
      We can even see Luffy’s sensibilities acting as a self fulfilling prophecy. To be the King of the Pirates is to be the man who is most free (how Luffy defined it). To be the King you must be able to travel around the world freely and attain that which nobody but the King has been able to- the One Piece. To throw a big ass party (if truly his goal) you need to be the most free and so the above requirements must be met. Meanwhile, Luffy’s desire for friendship, family, and camaraderie (nakama, if you will) has given him the tools necessary to do this while the approaches of other pirates fail. He has made friends with Robin, who can read the poneglyphs. Coby, who’s ambition is likely to take him to the top of the Marines and is a man who may play a pivotal role in transferring this force into the dawn. Shirahoshi and Momo, who we now know are required pieces to bring the dawn. Everybody in the Straw Hat Grand Fleet who will enable him to fight on a large scale. Fishman Island, Alabasta, Dressrosa, Wano, Whitebeard’s crew, several warlords. He’s building up this group of allies with key members who will ultimately be capable of bringing the dawn, and it’s all simply because of who Luffy is. There’s no strategy. He’s not researching what he needs. There’s no information network or coercion backing him up. It’s because of who Luffy is and that spirit which makes people want to follow him as Mihawk said. Luffy brings people together and he will ultimately reunite the world because of that.
      Does he need to have a secret goal which is to throw a party for all this to be true? No. But it fits.

    • @unstoppableExodia
      @unstoppableExodia 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ninuvids yeah I agree with much of what you said there. My disagreement with Artur’s belief that Luffy’s true goal to throw the biggest party the world has ever seen stems from the established pattern being that parties happen organically at the end of each arc once the tyrant has been defeated and that nobody on Luffy’s side has died. It would seem kinda redundant to me for Oda to make that Luffy’s goal when it would likely have happened anyway. It just seems like a one plus one equals eleven kinda logic. It seemed like his thought process was what’s something Luffy and roger could be mocked for saying when finishing the sentence “I’m gonna be .....”? What’s something Luffy loves to do? Party !! Hey that kinda fits both those things so that absolutely must be it. Couldn’t possibly be anything else such as “I’m gonna be king of the pirates” or “I’m gonna be the freest person in the world “ or “I’m gonna be the one to stop the tyrants” I always just assumed Luffy said he’ll be pirate king because that’s his catchphrase and it fits as something ace could tell Yamato not to laugh at given that he was at that time an unknown kid and for some upstart to claim that they’ll claim that huge prize that has eluded even the mightiest of pirates since Roger could definitely get a laugh from someone who doesn’t know Luffy and his potential.
      I get that theories aren’t really meant to be taken too seriously. They’re mainly just meant to be a bit of fun trying to guess what will happen based on what’s already known. I just wish someone could tell Artur that because he takes it and himself a little too seriously me thinks and regrettably that bugs me more than it probably should.

    There's also this one other really interesting theory about the One Piece being (instructions towards) the destruction of the Red Line using the ancient weapons - a treasure of freedom for all, of connecting the people of the world. This would tie together some loose plot threads - it would bring the ancient weapons into an active relevant role (the necessity of which would explain Roger being too early as Shirahoshi wasn't born yet), it would be the creation of the All Blue, it would allow Brook and Laboon (who is facing Reverse Mountain) to meet each other specifically _face to face_ as they promised when parting (which isn't possible otherwise, there's no reverse waterfall from the New World up Reverse Mountain), it would also cause the destruction of Fishman Island (as Luffy was predicted to do) and could coincide very nicely with the fight against the World Government.
    Can't remember who presented this theory, would point you that way otherwise.
    Arthur does touch on this as well, but the version I've seen before had a different focus, - like a mention of how Sanji specifically is the only one Luffy bonded with over their specific dreams upon recruiting him, and that being fitting as they effectively have the same dream, One Piece would be the route to All Blue as well - and didn't mention the treasure being sake.

    I like the Laboon theory and Sanji stuff. Part of my theory puts Blackbeard as the one who "steals the light" with his darkness power, and the reason the ancient kingdom fell could've been because of a split amongst the D. We see Roger and Garp (two D's on opposite sides) fighting Xebec another D. A little crackpot theory I have regarding Usopp and Elbaf, is that he'll get or make himself a powerful hammer. Another thing, Luffy doesn't drink. He refused when forming the fleet, he only did it once and that was during his childhood with Ace and Sabo to be united as brothers. So glad you're caught up and can discuss theories now! Oda's attention to detail, planning, and world building, are some of my favorite aspects of One Piece and really let people theorize wildly as his consistency with information and plot breadcrumbs make it possible to see some things ahead of time.
    My favorite theories that the fanbase had based on evidence Oda provided that turned out to be true were the "Sanji is a Prince" theory (based on stuff like him being from North Blue and having a rare blood type, etc) and the "Kanjuro is the traitor" theory (based on him eating with his right hand but painting with left in Dressrosa, plus more).
    Hilariously, the fanbase has been way off with theories sometimes too, either because Oda has something else cool planned, or sometimes just for it to be a red herring and joke. (So many people thought Duval was going to be a huge important plot callback only for him to be a gag on Sanji's wanted poster).
    I personally also like the ideas of All Blue being created from destroying the Red Line, Binks' Sake's "funny story" being Laugh Tale, and Luffy's dream to unite the world in a party. I am not sold on specific details of each theory and am totally open to being surprised, but they are all ideas I like.
    As for Sanji's eyebrows, another recent attention to detail thing Oda planted! When the time skip happened and Sanji's part changed sides, fans noticed that his eyebrow was still facing the same direction and were surprised because it meant Sanji's eyebrows both went same direction on each side (which was weird). But then in Whole Cake Island, we met his modified family and THEIR eyebrows went the opposite direction, which we thought was cool character design contrast and maybe had to do with him not being modified like them and matching their mom. BUT THEN, after Sanji started feeling like the Raid Suit had modified his body like his family, fans noticed that somepoint during the chapters where Sanji's body felt weird HIS EYEBROWS CHANGED DIRECTION TO MATCH HIS BROTHERS, signifying that his body was not modified like theirs. Oda's level of detail is insane and that's not even getting into the crazy background details and consistency he puts into each panel. It just gives people so much to discuss and theorize about.

    the all blue part is really intriguing to me. if you made the rough sketch of the one piece planet (yes, planet), you'll see that all blue is impossible to already exist. the only time the waters of all the blues met were at the peak of Reverse Mountain and waters of Fishman Island (if they count). So, the only way to make All Blue possible is to create it. This is where "The Destruction of The Red Line" theory comes in and I actually prefer this theory. The destruction of the whole Red Line is kind of too much so there are alternatives like destroying only Reverse Mountain and Mary Jois. Destroying those spots specifically made more sense since the two had pretty much affects people negatively. Reverse Mountain with Brook and Laboon and Mary Jois as the holy land of the celestial dragons and the center of the world government. Mr Morj actually have an in depth theory about this (maybe need to watch some of his other theories too) about why Destroying the red line (specifically those 2 spots) is required and why it is the one piece.

    • @7Seraphem7
      @7Seraphem7 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Plus, destroying the Red Line at Marejois would almost certainly cause the destruction of Fishman Island, which is sitting right beneath that spot, explaining both what the Noah had been created for (Evacuating the Fishmen when Joyboy triggered whatever was supposed to do this) and also fulfill the prophecy that Luffy would destroy Fishman Island.

    • @kristinberthiaume7634

      I absolutely lose my mind over the "X Marks the Spot" aspect of this theory. Every One Piece map we've seen looks kind of like an XY axis, with the Grand Line going left to right - but isn't it strange how the North Blue isn't really depicted as northern, and the South Blue isn't really depicted as southern? It's almost like the axis of the map is wrong. If we rotate the map 45 degrees, putting the North Blue in the North and the South Blue in the South: two X's span the entire planet, with Fishman Island/Mariejois and Reverse Mountain at the centers. I LOVE IT.

    • @7Seraphem7
      @7Seraphem7 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kristinberthiaume7634 You are right about the rotation, the few times we've seen a globe of the world it's made clear that yes, the Red Line/Grand Line are shifted from what they look like on a flat map. Don't think it's quite 45 degrees, but it is enough to be very clear.
      As to X marks the spot, we already have the made explicit it's going to happen. The Road Poneglyphs. Each one lays out a specific location, once you have all four you draw two lines connecting the two points across from each other, and where they cross is Laughtale. X will mark the spot.
