The entire city of Buffalo was watching. Literally every bar, and everyone in Buffalo was playing the show. Our honorary hometown band too. Thanks for sharing them with us, Canada💗
As much as everyone hates on CBC these days, they did a solid airing this for us. I don't care how much they made off of it. It truly did my soul good to be able to watch this in solidarity with my fellow Canadians across the country. For that I will forever be thankful.
@@kmacgregor6361 I would hope that, if they made anything from it, there was a deal with the band to donate a considerable amount to charity (glioblastoma research and indigenous causes, most likely).
thankfully we have the CBC if CTV and Global did this it would be full of commercials and they would have charged admission to the 11 million of us who watched free at parks across the country. CBC TV and Radio provide great exposure for Canadian talent And they still use Canadian foreign corespondants not feeding off the US news networks
They didn't make anything from it, in fact they lost because they paid to be playing the Olympics. They did an absolute solid and did a solid by airing this. Only The Hip could stop the Olympics and pause the busyness of a country to bring people across the entire country together 💜
I grew up in Ohio. The northern and easternmost town. That sharp point in the upper right hand corner. Thank Gord I did. I was across the Lake from London. And through London's FM96 I first heard the Hip in 1989 or 1990. It was MAGIC. It was a Twofer Tuesday. I was hooked. I have spread the Hip as far as I could in the States. I have shared Gordie and the boys with everyone I could, whether they wanted to listen or not. It's been nearly four years. I'm sitting in my car bawling. Literally crying SO hard right now. I remember a reddit thread I saw once. It was something like "I'm Canadian but I don't like..." Someone said The Hip. Even that guy was singing along on this night. I miss you, Gordie. For every kid in the US who lived in a "bordertown", you were OUR treasure, too.
Big hugs for you today. Even if you don't read this now, anytime soon or ever...the hip united us and that's why I send you a hug today. Take care. Miss you Gordie and The Tragically Hip.
I don’t use the tern hero very often however Gord certainly was a hero. To be dying and rather than live out your final days in the comfort of your home with loved ones he chose to show love and appreciation to his fans and his country. That is probably in my opinion the most courageous and selfless act one could perform.
Honestly I disagree, the cancer that he had is very intense.. I lost two people very close to me to the same cancer that Gord had.. and when I think about how much they suffered, emotionally and physically, it really isn’t a blessing .
My dad grew up with gord and have been friends since childhood he was a great guy no act what so all what u see is who he truly was would give his shirt of his back if someone needed. I have great memories of going to party's at his place or ours. And going out camping and fishing in the summer we went to the last concert after the show he came back into his dressing room and basically collapsed onto the couch from exhaustion and he gave me one of his mics he used for the tour. And gave my dad one of the guitars from the tour and singed the back and wrote a very heart felt note to my dad.
Bittersweet. There will never be another band that represents Canada so well. To the ten people who gave a thumbs down, you chose the wrong button, correct it now please.
I'll never forget this night. In the little northern mining town of Timmins, hundreds of people crowded into a public park by the river where a big inflatable screen was streaming this concert. It was pouring rain and there wasn't enough shelter for everyone, but we never stopped dancing or singing along. Every now and then the connection would go bust because of the storm and we'd just wait together huddled around the screen in anticipation. The north loved Gord.
Never forget that night how 99% of our Nation was watching this last show. 😪 All crying and singing along with Gord one last time live! 😪✌🙏 Rest in Peace and Love Gord. Thanks for everything, but especially the lyrics that brought us ALL together as Canadian's. ✌❤🇨🇦🎸🎶💃🐈🙏
Having seen them 21 times. I watched this show, obviously burst into tears. Often wondered why they closed with ABAC. Then it made sense. The last lyrics he ever sang was “disappointing you is getting me down” he was saying sorry to all of us. The Hip is Canada. He was all of us. That guy fully understood that significance of the moment...I may have watched that from my living room, but you could feel the collective, imminent loss our country was to feel
It's probably the biggest celebration of life event any country has ever had for a person. A rare event that could reduce the most stoic of men to tears.
Totally. When I first watched this, I knew that guy understood the assignment. I wish they cut back to him a few more times in the video, as I wonder if he held it together for the entirety of the song. I know I wouldn’t have.
You Canadians should be so proud to had a band like The Hip. I had the luck to see them twice in Belgium and they were fantastic. The will be still one of my favourite bands. Many greetings from Belgium to all the fans of The Hip!

I am an American living in the Cayman Islands. I have been here for thirty years. Along the way I have met and become friends with scores of Canadians.Good people! One of my best friends is a Canadian from Niagara Falls. On one of his mother's trips to the island I asked her to bring me the one of the Tragically Hip's greatest hits cds. I had already been a fan having seen them when they played a concert in the Caymans. That's right, the Hip played in the Cayman Islands.I am so glad that she brought me the cd Yer Favourites. I am sure you all know it is 37 of the Hip's best. I will forever cherish it! I just want to say, as an American whose country has lost numerous musical icons, including Tom Petty just a short time ago, (may he rock on in heaven), that I have never experienced the love and admiration for any of our musicians the way that Canada loves the Tragically Hip. Gord Downie and the boys have become a national treasure! You have lost one of the best and I grieve with you. Let's make sure their work is not lost on future generations. They were truly ahead by a century!!!
Thank you for sharing Mark. Gave me courage to tell my tale. Came to Canada in 90... was in a US university for 3+ years prior, but originally from Latinamerica. As an avid music lover ...jazz, Latin jazz, rock (drummer) ..my life changed when I heard the Hip. Looked into their evolution and saw something remarkable. They were themselves and and uniquely Canadian and had phases along the way from fun and games, to dark themes, to Canadian history/politics lessons... all with a distinct Canadian flavour. Becoming Canadian was eerily easy with the Hip as my soundtrack. I learned what it meant to be Canadian with their help. I was already barely recovering from Petty's passing. Gord's passing is now unbearable man. Two great ones gone..
Watching this 7 years later on the Canada Day Long weekend, reminded of the time in my life I had felt fully absolutely Canadian. What an honor to have experienced this. You’re so missed Gord.
I wish there was footage from the public square in Waterloo. It started raining for the last few songs and most if not all the fans stuck it out the the end. Dancing and singing to this song in the pouring rain is a moment I will never forget
Madeline Caesar We stayed up til 12 in N.S on a closed, cold one way street in a busy part of town. You could smell weed, beer, n piss. It was perfect.
This band means the world to me...I am not from Canada, but i have seen at first hand what this band means to Canadians..... There were ALWAYS Canadians at every TTH concert i saw in the Netherlands.... I fear the day Gordon Downie will die, we will loose one of the great poets of our time....This video tears me up, makes me feel good, makes me want to visit Canada and hug you all.....
Amazing. The reach they have, the tears unite us. I remember watching this live. It was a difficult time for me, my family. Watching it now brings it all back, both the good and the hard. What an amazing time it was, as a country, to say goodbye to one our own. He is missed.
I was playing a weekend of shows in Ocean City, Maryland and booked it out of there to get to the hotel to start watching this immediately. Watched what I could and was in tears almost the whole time. I hear The Hip on a daily basis - they're on my playlist here at work, so they come up a lot - and Gord is never far from my mind. Five years gone and he still blazes bright. What a legacy to leave behind.
Wow, they were absolutely nothing like anything else in that they pretty much made everyone relate in some way and made you feel good and comfortable in any situation hearing them and everyone could feel a vibe which stayed inside our hearts forever! RIP GORDON DOWNIE
This was a Canadian experience… one of our “where were you “ moments. Gord was really wonderful and we’re lucky we got to say goodbye to him as a country. I still miss him so much.
If you're Canadain, you just understand. If you're outside looking and understand, you know. Looking back, this was the last time it brought a whole country together, just for one important night. Thanks, Gord & the boys. Even years later you're still missed. 😍
I'm crying watching this - it tells you something when a band can move people so much as Gord Downie and his band. I'm 58 and been a Hip fan for over 25 years. Great lyrics, great music, great singer, no other can compare. Thank you for everything guys. Courage Gord, keep the faith....
The time stopped for that night in canada! I remember working a busy night at work and the boss saying u should see this on TV... and he didn't even like the hip lol.
How many times in life are we able to give roses to those who deserve it most whilst they are still alive. This wasn’t just about it being the Hip’s last concert. It was our opportunity as a country to say thank you! Thank you To a man who has given his soul to his art and a band that represented us Canadians so well. So for One last time, THANK YOU! I will always remember this moment and their music will always be with us!
Crying like a baby! I’m from buffalo and the hip has provided me with so many unforgettable moments with friends and family! I’m blessed to have gotten to see them so many times! Thank you!!!
Filled Officers Square in Fredericton (watched it with my adult children on a beautiful summer night). Saint John had several outdoor and indoor venues showing the concert, filled to the rafters. Even my 78 year old mother watched the concert and she'd never heard their music before. This was so much more than a concert by a beloved Canadian band. This was a national coming together for an iconic group of musicans and the unabashed love and respect for Gord Downie.
This song reminds me so much of my husband, my wonderful Canadian husband. It was our wedding weekend, we, plus my new BIL were driving to Venice FL and we put the Tragically Hip in the cd player and this song played..this song will forever remind me of that weekend..my husband and all the wonderful and amazing things he brought into my life. He is gone now, he died last June my incredible and strong hero. RIP Rob ~ till we see each other again ~ XOXO
I am soooo sorry for your loss... he will always be with you.. my daughter's Dad was killed when I was pregnant.... he shows me hes here.... every single day.................
I watched this show with my wife and wept. As a long-time Hip fan South of the border, I want to say thank you Gord, thank you Hip, and thank you Canada.
I live in the BC interior and was so happy CBC aired this, it was so emotional and Canadians actually came together for a special concert and moment in time.c
I remember watching this live on the CBC. Looking back now, I'm glad I watched this home all by myself. I cried so much through out the concert. No one needed to see that. RIP Gord.... you are missed....
I went to the show in Winnipeg on the last tour. People were cheering, singing, dancing, crying because we know we would never see them again. For the Kingston last show - thanks to CBC for broadcasting it. Most of Canada watched from house parties, bars, or on the street where cities had setup outdoor screens. We all spent many years listening to the Hip with our friends. Everyone joined in singing this last song. (Its the law in Canada that you know the lyrics to at least a dozen Hip songs) RIP Gord
Gord, I was in Canada in 96/97, saw you at the Corel Center. My school friends insisted on their weird foreigner to accompany and watch the best band in the world. You may have noticed us. ;-) My friends were the only row totally calm and nailed deep deep into their seats after consuming too many veggies - strike! The rest of the Corel Center was at their feet going crazy. I will never forget that picture. Whenever someone threw in a Hip record, YOUR Canadians, Gord, transformed into the most wonderful species I have met on earth. Not one pickup truck, whose driver couldn't sing your songs by heart. Left Canada 20 years ago. Your music never left me. Never will. With Love from Europe.
Steve Calling from the UK, Good luck to all you guys in Maple Leaf County, why didn't anybody tell me about Tragically Hip before? They're wonderful. God Bless Gord.
Years later, as I became aware of the Tragically Hip and watched the video of the last concert, I am blown away by this moment across Canada and for those watching wherever they might have been. I can still feel the emotion.
Year after year, month after month this video gives me comfort. One of the most powerful, sad and joyous music videos out there that only features the band for like 20 seconds. I watched this concert in the Cayman Islands on a screen in a bar car park and not going to miss it for the world. I only saw them once, when the came to Cayman back in like 2008 and it was one one the best gigs I ever went to - just having the Hip on our rock was unbelievable. Thank you Gord, Johnny, Rob, Paul and Gord for the music. of a specific period of my life and ongoing in my memories.
Now February 2022 and I didn't expect to see footage only of the audience. Thanks for that, couldn't keep it dry here.... so surreal and unfair and heart breaking. Miss you & love you Gord.
Watched this at the trailer park. Watching from the deck across the street through someone’s window looking at their TV. We had the sound coming through the radio. Unreal experience. So special, glad I got to spend it with my dad and grandfather!
Sitting here, 5yrs removed from this prolific event, and I still can’t stop the tears. I cry for everything we lost with Gord’s death, every lyrical blessing he bestowed upon us, every moment of harmony he still brings to our lives. He may be gone, it may be 2022, but In Gord, We Still Trust.
I never met you, but I love and miss you on what should be your 58th birthday Mister Gord Downie. Signed, a misplaced American grateful for Canada sharing this great gift.
This makes me cry every time I watch it. The expressions on the fans faces says it all. The end of a legend. Watching Gord sing his heart out and knowing he was dying. Such a tragedy for Tragically Hip fans and for our great country, Canada. Thank you, Hip, for making all my important memories keyed to your music.
The end of a truly Canadian treasure! Did ANY Canadian band EVER epitomize this country like Gord and the boys? I think not. My heart is shattered and the tears are flowing freely. Ahead by way more than century Gord..way, way more!
Watched this stream live in Officer's Square Fredericton, NB. Our local radio station rocked the Hip all day leading up to it. To this day, still my favorite concert I've ever attended.
I live in Halifax. I was so grateful to be given free tickets, free accommodation, and free plane tickets to the show in Edmonton on this tour. I flew from Halifax to Edmonton for 1 day, went to the concert, had an INSANE van taxi ride on the way back to the hotel with 5 strangers blasting Nelly, and flew back to NS the next morning. For as long as I live I will never forget the entire thing and being part of Canadian history.
Cheers from my hometown of Bolton Valley, VT! Where a Canadian band I had never heard of came to town and my teenage self discovered a great band. I hate that I will never see them again, and I'll never regret splurging for those Kingston tickets to see the last one. Love you Tragically Hip!
When I'm asked what makes Canada so special, I say two things... we don't try to define it, and watch us say goodbye to Gordie... all that needs to be said.
When I watch videos of bands playing to crowds of thousands, I always think about how cool it must feel to be a musician and have a sold-out arena singing your words back to you... but to have an entire freaking country doing so??? I can't even imagine.
Six time zones wide. No nation ever held a bigger block party. I was there. Macdonell Street, halfway between Wyndham and Carden, just past the Guelph City Hall fountain. I still mark the spot. A late summer's night in 2016, all the generations of an entire nation came out to sing and sway, and offer our gratitude. History finds its high spots, too. Only this band. only this country, could make this happen. It was so beautiful. Six time zones wide.
There were even a few spots showing in here in Western New York! Gordie you will be missed.....hopefully later rather than sooner...Even when he's gone,Tragically Hip will still live on!!
In 1993 I've heard this band in Belgium for the very first time. Wow, what a performance. How could I not become a fan? In 1995 I bought a ticket for Rolling Stones' Voodoo Lounge Tour and yes ... the Hip were there again. I've never heard them live again, but this band will always have a very special place in my heart. In Gord I trust! Long live Canada!
This is amazing. From Illinois, and I don't know if our country could get this kind of response for any of our artists. We are too damned divided. Loved th TH since 1993. RIP Gord.
I imagine if anybody were to pull it off, no question the one and only band and I would say pretty firmly no other band even comes close, it would have to be Aerosmith, u can imagine Steven Tyler announcing he hasn’t got long to live and they do one last tour across the US with their last concert in Boston, would definitely be something else
Every once in a while something is perfect.

I saw them outside in Montreal 2 years ago, it was pouring and no one even thought about leaving. He wasn't leaving, so why would we?
Madeline Caesar We stayed up til 12 in N.S on a closed, cold one way street in a busy part of town. You could smell weed, beer, n piss. It was perfect.
Madeline Caesar same in guelph
one of the good meanings of that expression
This band means the world to me...I am not from Canada, but i have seen at first hand what this band means to Canadians..... There were ALWAYS Canadians at every TTH concert i saw in the Netherlands.... I fear the day Gordon Downie will die, we will loose one of the great poets of our time....This video tears me up, makes me feel good, makes me want to visit Canada and hug you all.....
Kuno Steijn you can crash at my place bro !
you are right except he is dead already. I saw them 13 times. gord is canada. full stop. He's ours. I cry and cry. I miss him
Amazing. The reach they have, the tears unite us. I remember watching this live. It was a difficult time for me, my family. Watching it now brings it all back, both the good and the hard. What an amazing time it was, as a country, to say goodbye to one our own. He is missed.
When it's safe to do so...c'mon over
@@sray1768 High on my bucketlist!
Not just the greatest band to ever come out of Canada, but one of the greatest bands of any country EVER.
Simply beautiful. How many bands can bring an entire country together for 1 night? The tragically hip can the tragically hip did
Wow, they were absolutely nothing like anything else in that they pretty much made everyone relate in some way and made you feel good and comfortable in any situation hearing them and everyone could feel a vibe which stayed inside our hearts forever! RIP GORDON DOWNIE
Oh Gord, you are so loved. Even here in New York State.
I never get sick of this video.
This was a Canadian experience… one of our “where were you “ moments. Gord was really wonderful and we’re lucky we got to say goodbye to him as a country. I still miss him so much.
I could not stop crying. He's with the constellations now, look up and remember
Beautiful words
I watched from Mexico. Thank you CBC.
I fkn love this
No dress rehearsal, this is our life - Every Canadian Ever
The saddest sing along in The Hip's history, so many broken hearts.
Right :(
Still grieving but proud and happy Gord shared his passion with us ♥️ RIP Gordie, rest easy.
Every Canadian knew! Jus matter of time.
After hearing the last two songs, long time running in the credits, I tried to get up, then just sat down and cried.
The night that the entire country sang together to honour Gord & the hip. A well deserved honour. So amazing❤
Sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you.
I am soooo sorry for your loss... he will always be with you.. my daughter's Dad was killed when I was pregnant.... he shows me hes here.... every single day.................
well Sallie, Gord and Rob are chillin together now
Sallie, GoI pray that you and yours have a safe and warm holiday! God Bless again!
You can read the emotions in nearly everyone in this video, enough to make you cry
Just never wanted them to stop. We miss you Gord
I love Canadians, and I love being Canadian! So Proud!
Gord, I was in Canada in 96/97, saw you at the Corel Center. My school
friends insisted on their weird foreigner to accompany and watch the
best band in the world. You may have noticed us. ;-) My friends were the
only row totally calm and nailed deep deep into their seats after
consuming too many veggies - strike! The rest of the Corel Center was at their
feet going crazy. I will never forget that picture.
Whenever someone threw in a Hip record, YOUR Canadians, Gord,
transformed into the most wonderful species I have met on earth. Not one
pickup truck, whose driver couldn't sing your songs by heart. Left
Canada 20 years ago. Your music never left me. Never will. With Love
from Europe.
well said. thank you
Thank you
"No Dress rehearsal this is our life". What a powerful line cuts deep Rip Gord your music lives on forever!
I was on my way home in the horseshoe bay ferry when this happened, it will be a story I'll tell my grandkids when I'm older
cheers from the NWT, was greatful to watch it all on bunny ears over the air !
This is utterly heartbreaking and incredibly inspirational all at once. Shed a tear for Gord on 11/17/2018. A Canadian living in Atlanta, GA.
Steve Calling from the UK, Good luck to all you guys in Maple Leaf County, why didn't anybody tell me about Tragically Hip before? They're wonderful. God Bless Gord.
thanks bud you are a rather nice chap Go England
I think the expression on the guys face at 0:27 sums up what a lot of people were feeling that night. Myself included:
Also 543.
Years later, as I became aware of the Tragically Hip and watched the video of the last concert, I am blown away by this moment across Canada and for those watching wherever they might have been. I can still feel the emotion.
I remember this as if it were yesterday The Hip could have played all night and I never would have left miss you Gord Downie you made Canada proud
Im 51 and i still don't know how to watch this video without tears!!
Now February 2022 and I didn't expect to see footage only of the audience. Thanks for that, couldn't keep it dry here.... so surreal and unfair and heart breaking. Miss you & love you Gord.
Love the couple with the toddlers…an “I was there moment” if there ever was one!!!!!
Watched this at the trailer park. Watching from the deck across the street through someone’s window looking at their TV. We had the sound coming through the radio. Unreal experience. So special, glad I got to spend it with my dad and grandfather!
I wanna know who that couple was that brought their kids in pyjamas, thats just the best man, thats resilience and devotion right there
That would have made a GREAT pajama party though ^_^
they gonna have some deaf kids though
Johnny Critchley we brought our 2 year old out that night and she was up rocking out all night lol
Was awesome
I can't watch this without tears streaming down my face.
So much love.
Wow! Up to 79 people that don't understand what coming together as a nation, as a people is all about. Shallowness is all around us.
This song hits harder on this date, and always will.
Digby Nova Scotia had a viewing at the local rink for this concert. so great!
I'm a true believer from Texas,....This is heavy,......
well Mike you have great taste music should unite us all you just made me a true Texas fan
I think you might be a head of a centuary
Loved you brother !!!
You pulled me through on some hard days !!!
Miss ya !!
This is what a band means to a generation across the nation.
There is certainly more than one generation of fans that like them, but it is across the nation.
Was never a big Hip fan even though I'm a fellow Canadian born n raised. But this video, it hits me right in the feels. RIP Gord.
When I'm asked what makes Canada so special, I say two things... we don't try to define it, and watch us say goodbye to Gordie... all that needs to be said.
❤
The night everything stopped in Canada for a few hours.
RESPECT from Seattle, so
much moving , powerful
music. THANK YOU ,HIP.

Freaking tears,....it's all been said. Canada's greatest L♥ve, "Tragically Hip". Will be TRAGICALLY missed. ♥
Lots of love for the Hip south of the 49th as well - Godspeed!
Thank you for the wonderful video. This was a night that I will cherish forever.
RIP Gord.
Agreed, you could go to any hip concert and find every race, religion, political ideology etc etc... When Gord was singing we were just Canadian
Only other group to come close was Barenaked ladies
I imagine if anybody were to pull it off, no question the one and only band and I would say pretty firmly no other band even comes close, it would have to be Aerosmith, u can imagine Steven Tyler announcing he hasn’t got long to live and they do one last tour across the US with their last concert in Boston, would definitely be something else
@@Rocker5593 Freddie Mercury comes to mind, it would have been off the charts. I consider him one of the best frontmen all time.
Me too. Well said.
He united the entire country as one mind, with nothing but positivity.
