For me, this is a perfect evolution of Nihil, Jake leaving was so sad, he truly was a monster of a frontman and vocalist. But the bassist taking center stage in vocals and being more present in the mix really work SUPERB, funny that you said Queen because afterthe first listen Iwas like "This is if Queen listenened to a lot of Death Metal with a small obsession for space"
Their new vocalist and guitarist was one of the vocalists and guitarists of the band Black Crown Initiate. Very cool band, they played technical death/ progressive death metal He collaborated with Rivers of Nihil in the “Where Owls Know My Name” track, he was the one doing the clean vocals on that track and he has always very involved with the band I think all of them have been friends for a long time
Andy from Black Crown Initiate is now on clean vocals after BCI broke up. I’ve always loved both of BCI’s vocalists and I’m glad at least one of them joined one of my favorite bands. Adam Biggs also killed it on harsh vocals after Jake left, but I hope we will still get some more of his somber cleans in the future.
The saxophonist was never a member of the band. He’s a friend who did the session work in the studio and they hired a different session guy to tour with them.
One thing i liked so much on The Work were the clean vocals by Adam Biggs the Bass player. I hope he does them still too since he's now the main harsh vocalist.
The Work was a slow burn for me. I did not like it at first, but the more I listened to it it grew to become my favorite album of theirs. Really excited for this new chapter of music from them.
This is one of my favorite bands. The Work for me was tremendous. I've heard it more than the others by far. We got to see them live in Detroit a while back and it was so good. I'll be very excited for a new album but they can take their time and make a great one. 🤘🏽
Same, not really sure how I feel about it yet, I don't love it or h8 it. The Work was a terrible album, it only had 2 or 3 good songs and the rest were garbage unfortunately. It seems they'll never come close to topping the genius of Where Owls Know My Name or Monarchy, I'm gonna have to give this song a 5/10.
I believe the sax player isn't exactly a full member of the band but I believe he is in the band Burial In The Sky as that bands sax player though i might be wrong
Was uncertain at first, but I figured it would grow on me. Was anxiously anticipating their next steps after Jake had to depart. Sucks but I feel a bit better after hearing this.
Actually The Work grew on me so fucking much it's maybe my favorite metal album now. Because it's just so fucking emotional. This album makes me cry like no other. Sometimes i feel a little bad for Where Owls Know My Name because it has the better bangers. But as hard as they hit they don't get me as emotional as songs like The Void From Which No Sound Escapes and Episode.
They replaced their rhythm guitarist with Andy Thomas from Black Crown Initiate, who the band has known forever and did guest vocals on Where Owls Know My Name (he’s in the music video with a tambourine lol). He does clean vocals as well now. The primary harsh vocalist now is just their bassist, Adam Biggs. Their previous vocalist, Jake Dieffenbach, parted ways with the band at end of last year. It’s a bummer as I really liked Jake but I’m hopeful the band can keep putting out great material. If you haven’t revisited The Work lately I’d recommend it. I wasn’t super into it when it dropped either, but it’s really grown on me.
So Zach Strouse does the saxophone for them but he has never been an official member of the band. He tours with them when he can but I believe he is in another band too. He just records with them when they want him to come in and do some parts basically. They didn't want to be known as that metal band with the saxophone player so you don't hear him in every song nearly as much as he played on owl
This single makes me think the forthcoming album won’t be nearly as weird and zany as The Work and I’m very ok with that. The Work has its moments but overall I found it to be a huge disappointment. How does a band manage to follow up a masterpiece like Owls though honestly? The bar was set high and unobtainable to reach again. Lol

I love The Work. At first i found Where Owls Know My Name way better. But over the last years it grew on me so much. It's just the atmosphere and the vibe that kills it all. Everytime The Void From Which No Sound Escapes or Episode comes up i can litarally cry. This album serves as a sponge for emotions like no other.
The atmosphere in this song is amazing, don't know what you guys are talking about. Amazing!

Main thing that sucks is that I dont think Biggs really does the old songs justice when performed live
Love this song. Hope they continue in this vein. Love the haunting cleans

lol I touht I ws going crazy, cuz the voice sounded so close to BCI, it seems my suspicions are correct. I had no idea BCI broke up, that sucks
Black Crown Initiate aren’t broken up though.

The more i listened to it the more i didnt like it lol owls their masterpiece imo but im definitely digging this new track
The Work - yes, it takes a few listens to appreciate its subtlety.

Solid track. Gonna take a me a few listens to really soak it all in.

Really great song! So hyped for the new album!
Indeed 'very Queenie' and 'Sub-Orbital Blues' sounds a lot like an episode of Cowboy Bebop. Great reaction guys.

Void is such a powerfully amazing song. It's probably my honest to God favorite song ever. I cannot get enough of it.
Void is a top 5 owls song. The other 4 are on Owls. 😁

Love this the melody is cool it's different then anything else really good keep it metal good singing too and cool vid
This has a strong Black Crown Initiate vibe to it, but I'm not complaining because I love both bands.
Great song indeed!

I'm good with no sax with this line-up. Focus on what the 4 do best lyrically and with their instruments. Hellbirdz no sax.🤘
