The jammu city was founded by Raja Jambulochan when he saw a tiger and a goat drinking water from the same pond. He realised this is a place of great tranquility and coexistence so he built a city there with thode ideals. These ideals are the spirit of the whole Jammu division. To live peacefully and coexist together without discrimination or prejudice. You'll find all faiths living together peacefully and respecting each other's beliefs.
It is said that, on becoming King, the Suryavanshi Jambu Lochan went on a hunt and, crossing the Tawi, found a deer and a tiger drinking water from the same tank. His ministers explained that this meant that the soil of the place was so virtuous that no living creature bore enmity against another. Raja Jambu Lochan, who lived in the later vedic period, decided to found his capital , Jambupura, on his soil, on the right bank of the Tawi, overlooking his brother king Bahu’s fort. Today the temple of Maha Kali ( better known as Bahu or Bawey Wali Mata), located in the Bahufort, is considered second only to Mata Vaishno Devi in terms of mystical power. The present temple was built shortly after the coronation of Maharaja Gulab singh, in 1822. The existing fort, as well as the Manasabdar’s palace inside it, was constructed in 1820. Jammu is an underrated beauty of India. While it may not be as developed as other cities, its simplicity is what truly makes it special. My two years in Bangalore and even though I have fully adopted its culture, Jammu is where I'll forever find my comfort. Watching this video brings back a wave of nostalgia for those good old days. Thanks for covering this, Karl.

It would be great if the rest of the Indians knew the Difference between Jammu Division & Kashmir Division. Some basic things to learn Jammu & Kashmir both have 10 Districts each . Majority Group in Kashmir are Kashmiris & majority group in Jammu are Dogras . Jammu is bigger in Area than Kashmir. 6 out of 10 districts of Jammu receives snowfall . Every district of Kashmir receives it . Most of the Jammu Division was always Pro-India even the Muslims of Jammu are Pro-India . We are demanding a separate state for Jammu but the government has clubbed us with Kashmir so that they can show Hindu population in the region . Jammu is the most neglected place in India after the North East , most of the development even after 370 happened in Kashmir. The Lithum ore government recently found is in Jammu ( Reasi district ) , the highest railway bridge is in Jammu again in Reasi. Jammu is completely Safe . I hope in your next vacation you can choose Jammu. We have lush green meadows in Bhadarwah & Kishtwar . Hill stations like Patnitop & Sanasar . Holy pilgrimage like Mata Vaishno Devi , Machail Mata , Shiv Khori , Shahdara Sharif . It's a little underdeveloped but i hope it'll be better. Also , We got the best food in India .
When you visit India, keep an open mind. Many visitors from Europe, US, etc have no idea that India is diverse, and vast country. It is not a small country with homogenous population speaking in a common tongue! India can delight you one moment, and shock you in another. You can be in an ultra modern cyber city one moment, next you can be in a crowded and ancient part of the city. So take it as it comes and enjoy your visit. Be safe!
These lands have a distinct culture. The British failed to tame it and convert north India into sedate Britainesque villages. I don't know if many western tourist will like this kind of ruggedness. For the rough it out trekkers and bag packers this can be an option. However with push from current govt maybe they have developed pockets for foreign tourism in this area as well.
