All of that is a big exaggeration. As a young man he was wounded with a shotgun. At Sweetwater, Texas, he was wounded in the leg and shoulder. He didn't kill anywhere near 50 outlaws. He tried to avoid gunfights. His reputation allowed criminals to give up and go to jail. Ironically, he was the only Texas Ranger to lose a prisoner by lynch mob.
Hamer was a real hero who chased criminals, not headlines. Gotta wonder what he'd have thought about Kevin Costner's portrayal of him. One tough man, that's for sure!

I have two of these Model 8's, one a .30 Remington and one a .35 Remington. My father and grandfather used them for whitetail deer hunting, and I've done the same. I had the suspicion that a Model 8 was one of the guns used to kill Bonnie and Clyde, so was very interested in this video. Thanks for putting it out there!
In Synder Texas, Hammer was approached by an assassin , the brother of the defendant in a trail. Hammer was shot in the shoulder by a .45 auto but had the presence of mind to pull his S&W and dispatch the perp!

You are correct and they “the extended capacity” are hard to find. Given the time and era it was most likely an 8, but I sure wasn’t around back then to verify.

The 81 came a few years later and never sold very many. Most were bought by L.A. sheriff's department. Great show, though check it out. Also watched his podcast on the Monitor BAR. Used by Hamer in the movie "Highwaymen" I'm sure you'll enjoy them as well
first time I ever saw a mod 8 it was on the used rack at Gunnies along w/ a Sav 99... didnt know what either were and kicked myself long after for not getting em before they were gone next day... the rear cover above the safety was machined so thin I thought it was a stamping but research at home informed me... yrs later ended up w/ a mod 81 and another sav 99 but I wont ever forget missing that first chance

Excellent episode! Frank Hamer had bought several extended magazines from Hillyard Chemical in St. Joseph, Missouri. Hillyard, which is still in business today, operated The Police Supply Company. In the 1930’s and 1940’s, this was one of the leading police tactical companies in the US. The magazines that Captain Hamer bought were 10 round. I believe the standard magazine was five rounds. The .35 Remington, is often overlooked compared to the .30/30 Winchester. The .35 had a heavier bullet and an edge in energy. While Marlin did chamber the Model 336 lever action rifle in .35 Remington, the fact that the .30/30 was offered in the Model 94 Winchester lead to it’s greater popularity. The .30/30 may have killed more whitetail deer, the .35 Remington killed Bonnie and Clyde!
What about it? He used a great many different firearms throughout his career. These two are the “go to” ones. I could do a full 3 hour video about all the firearms he used, but felt like a shorter more condensed video would be more palatable for a wider verity of viewers. Well that's good to hear Kepler. Technically The Texas Rangers are a division within the Texas Department of Public Safety. about 200 employees and the average age is 44. Not a bad career choice at all but is it a long road. Having good study habits and staying physically fit will be worth it's weight in gold. If you want my advice, Get up before the sun rises and train hard with weights and cardio. Before going to bed early read and study. Remember that due diligence and self control will win the race in the end. Focus on a goal and do not rest until it is obtained.
The extended model 8 magazines were first made by a Texas gunsmith by welding two magazines together. These held 10 rounds. These were popular with the Texas Rangers. Once the idea caught on a company started making an extended magazine. From the photo of a rifle in the Texas Ranger Mueseum of a model 8 with a commercially made magazine, it appears to hold at least 15 rounds or possibly even 20.

He most likely did, the issue is that I have never seen one for sale cheap enough to buy, and to install the large magazine you need to take apart the rifle to install it unfortunately.
I've read that Frank used a B.A.R. ar the ambush. Deputy Prentiss used a .35 Remington borrowed from a dentist . What am I missing? BTW , Great video !

Remember that B&C’s heydays were during the Great Depression. Families were losing their houses & farms to the banks. Naturally many folks liked to see the banks get robbed just as they perceived the banks were robbing them. It’s certainly no justification for what B&C did but it might explain why 20,000 people went to Bonnie Parker’s funeral.
What is interesting to me is that the Model 8 Remington is so named because it was introduced in 1908; 116 years ago. When people get all torqued up about modern AR format rifles; i.e. magazine fed, semi-automatic firearms , remind them that this ain't a new concept. Remington introduced this magazine fed, semi-auto rifle116 years ago.
The 1967 Bonnie and Clyde with Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty has them capturing Captain Hamer and doesn't place Him at the scene of their ending. Common sense says if Bonnie and Clyde really captured Captain Hamer, they would killed Him in cold blood.
Why was Frank A. Hamer carrying a .38 Super? Hamer knew that his opponents would like be wearing bullet-proof vests, and Frank knew his .45 couldn't penetrate a vest, but a Super .38 could cut a hole in the vest as neatly as a drill press. His rifle was also chosen for penetrating automobiles. Hamer didn't like automatic rifles but ballistics showed that Ted Hinton had fired 30 shots at Bonnie & Clyde's car during the Sowers ambush, with a Thompson submachine gun and 17 out of 30 his shots hadn’t penetrated the body of Clyde's Ford. Hamer's Remington 8 was meant to rip holes in a V8 Ford.
The M&P was made in 1899, not 1905, I have many of the early Models, my first was a 4th change passed down to me from Del Norte County Sheriff's Austin Huffman and his son, my Great Uncle, Bud Huffman. You got the history very very wrong. I also have a Triple Lock, being restored at Tyler Gunworks, and have owned a few 35 Remingtons. Frank Hamer was a childhood hero of mine. And, along with Keith, greatly influenced my firearms, and my career in law enforcement. The modern cop with a 9mm and a 223 is ill served.
You can blame media if you want for the veneration of Bonnie and Clyde. I have a simpler reason why Bonnie and Clyde were thought of as "Robin Hood" types even if they clearly weren't. Why? Because fuck banks, that's why.

Umm, that was not Remington, that was Winchester. JMB designed primarily for Winchester with the Winchester 1887, 1897, Winchester 92, and 94 and 95 and the High Wall, among others. He left them because instead of a flat rate for the Browning Auto 5, the first semi auto shotgun, he wanted royalties, and Winchester told him to pound salt and he went to Remington, the CEO has a heart attack so he went to FN. He didn't really design as much for Remington as he did for Winchester, Remington Model 8 and 10 come to mind.

That’s still super cool. Check Hornady. If I remember correctly they have .35 Rem in there “leverlution” line of ammo

From the photo of a rifle in the Texas Ranger Mueseum of a model 8 with a commercially made magazine, it appears to hold at least 15 rounds or possibly even 20.

What was the magazine capacity of the Remington rifle Hamer used to kill Bonnie and Clyde? What weapons were used by the other officers involved in the killing?
I can’t recall the capacity on that particular model. Off the top of my head I don’t remember, but the information is easy enough to look up.

He most likely did, the issue is that I have never seen one for sale cheap enough to buy, and to install the large magazine you need to take apart the rifle to install it unfortunately.

Remember that B&C’s heydays were during the Great Depression. Families were losing their houses & farms to the banks. Naturally many folks liked to see the banks get robbed just as they perceived the banks were robbing them. It’s certainly no justification for what B&C did but it might explain why 20,000 people went to Bonnie Parker’s funeral.

What is interesting to me is that the Model 8 Remington is so named because it was introduced in 1908; 116 years ago. When people get all torqued up about modern AR format rifles; i.e. magazine fed, semi-automatic firearms , remind them that this ain't a new concept. Remington introduced this magazine fed, semi-auto rifle116 years ago.

The 1967 Bonnie and Clyde with Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty has them capturing Captain Hamer and doesn't place Him at the scene of their ending.
Common sense says if Bonnie and Clyde really captured Captain Hamer, they would killed Him in cold blood.

Why was Frank A. Hamer carrying a .38 Super? Hamer knew that his opponents would like be wearing bullet-proof vests, and Frank knew his .45 couldn't penetrate a vest, but a Super .38 could cut a hole in the vest as neatly as a drill press. His rifle was also chosen for penetrating automobiles. Hamer didn't like automatic rifles but ballistics showed that Ted Hinton had fired 30 shots at Bonnie & Clyde's car during the Sowers ambush, with a Thompson submachine gun and 17 out of 30 his shots hadn’t penetrated the body of Clyde's Ford. Hamer's Remington 8 was meant to rip holes in a V8 Ford.

The M&P was made in 1899, not 1905, I have many of the early Models, my first was a 4th change passed down to me from Del Norte County Sheriff's Austin Huffman and his son, my Great Uncle, Bud Huffman. You got the history very very wrong. I also have a Triple Lock, being restored at Tyler Gunworks, and have owned a few 35 Remingtons. Frank Hamer was a childhood hero of mine. And, along with Keith, greatly influenced my firearms, and my career in law enforcement. The modern cop with a 9mm and a 223 is ill served.
You can blame media if you want for the veneration of Bonnie and Clyde. I have a simpler reason why Bonnie and Clyde were thought of as "Robin Hood" types even if they clearly weren't. Why? Because fuck banks, that's why.

Umm, that was not Remington, that was Winchester. JMB designed primarily for Winchester with the Winchester 1887, 1897, Winchester 92, and 94 and 95 and the High Wall, among others. He left them because instead of a flat rate for the Browning Auto 5, the first semi auto shotgun, he wanted royalties, and Winchester told him to pound salt and he went to Remington, the CEO has a heart attack so he went to FN. He didn't really design as much for Remington as he did for Winchester, Remington Model 8 and 10 come to mind.

Frank Hamer was a law man, no law enforcement is going after blm/antifa in fact in most situations I have seen the law enforcement arrests the person being assaulted by those groups.
