My great-grandfather was a World War Two veteran. He served with the US army in Italy and France. 3rd Army in Italy. 36 infantry division during his French tour. He won two purple hearts and a Legion of Merit Medal, all still in pristine condition today. He rose through the ranks to become a US Army Captain of the 42nd infantry regiment. He was a seasoned veteran, joining the US Coast Guard in 1940. He was quite the soldier, always wanting to keep moving forward. Unfortunately, he left behind a 21-month old daughter that he would never see, alongside his widow. He fell in combat in 1944, a mere week before Christmas day. His name was Frank Strader, and somewhere in France, his grave remains still. Someday, I will be there to honor his legacy.

I love this song, it's cautiously triumphant as if to say "yes we won, but at what cost". It perfectly encapsulates the heroism and tragedy of war and really makes you respect the sacrifice previous generations made for us to live free and in peace. Just a beautiful piece of music.

While the First World War was essentially just a military victory, leaving the defeated powers as humiliated pariah states, the Second World War was a _societal_ victory. This time, the struggles were not in vain. This time, diplomatic expenses and overtures were truly made to establish healthy relations with the new governments of those we had once called foes. This time, we all triumphed over our past grievances and healed the wounds of conflict. And I did, I sent 100 heavy fighters and a strat bomber there to that field, had them gain air superiority and then I nuked Moscow twice, Novgorod once, and some other city south of that once. And I made them capitulate in hours after they had lost 34 million people in my game's WWIII aka the Soviet-Iraqi war. Britain lost 5 mil, and the US aka myself lost 480K men. Real brutal war but after capitulating Russia I dropped my 30 other atom bombs on the Asian communist countries and Socialist Hungary. War started in 1949 and ended in '53.
I kinda imagine seeing all those planes destroyed in the war joined in one endless sky, all sunken ships with their Crews sailing togheter on a vast blue ocean, all those men who fell on the fronts marching togheter or riding their vehicles on an never ending field...
