    The Degenkolb crash and his reaction after the race broke my heart. You know how much this race means to him and it was amazing to see him back with the favorites again. Such an great guy. I hope he can come back in similar fashion next year.

      I dont know the guy yet because i just recently started watching pro races and it was heart breaking to see his reaction, and couple of tire puncture like wout and the other guy too, this race is so brutal mechanical failure is a bigger factor compared to other races

      But yeah. Its the most brutal race on the schedule. Unforgiving as shit. Evident in the poor, poor yet beautiful great person Degenkolb who crashes to no fault of his own and of no fault of MvdP ans/or Philipsen and the mechanical of WvA. Its unfair as shit. Its Paris-Roubaix in a nutshell hehe.
      But nice my man. Have fun discovering this bbbbeautiful sport. The most beautiful by a margin to be honest. And I watch many lol

      If MVDP hadn't won, I think they would have relegated him. He muscled Degenkolb off the road by making a sharp move toward him and then reacting poorly when Jaspers blocked him.
      But he did win, and they weren't about to open up that can of worms. Degenkolb got jobbed.

      @MicheleGardini ปีที่แล้ว +29

      @@bobmclennan1727 Philipsen moved sideways because he wanted to enter in the small smooth strip out of pavé, he didn't know Degenkolb was coming faster from there, van der Poel was too closed between them and had only 2 choices: a sudden brake and probably a bad fall, or to push Degenkolb. He pushed, but I can't blame him. I can't see real malice there, that's why Degenkolb himself at the end wasn't angry. The race sometimes gives you no choice, and Roubaix is the hell, when you ride cobbles at 50 km/hrs you're taming a wild horse.

    You can say what you want about Mathieu, but he singled out 4 courses for the spring season - MSR, E3, RVV and PR - 1,2,2,1 - the people he lost too, WvA and Pogacar. I think you can't argue with the fact that he's the greatest classic rider at the moment.

    The MVDP attacks with 60k to go were very important imo because van Hooydonck and Laporte were actually closing in. • @sean7098
    @sean7098 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    For me there was 4 main stages.
    Break of Koch, Gee, Bax and Hollman go up the road.
    Van Aert makes a group with Van Der Poel, Laporte, Degenkolb, Kung and Mihkels (I think?).
    Crash on Arenberg makes group of 8 including Rex, 2 Alpecin, Ganna, Pedersen, Wallscheid and 2 others who shortly got dropped - 1 DSM and 1 trek maybe?
    Van Aert attack and subsequent flat leading to the MVDP victory.

    • @sudsehun76
      @sudsehun76 ปีที่แล้ว

      i think LR missed alotta stuff:
      i dnt think break of koch was relevant cos of the 2nd point which was WVA and Laporte's unexpected out of the blue attack before 100KM catching everyone except MVDP (surprisingly) off guard. Kung had to do some serious effort to catch up.
      one pivotal moment of the race was the power swing cos until this point Jumbo had full control of the race with 2 riders whilst MVDP was singled out (story of MVDP's life until this year) but then the subsequent puncture of Laporte followed by Ganna's free taxi ride for Philipsen which changed the tide. also, philipsen had huge role to play later on.
      crash of arenberg wasn't really important in my opinion (don't wanna sound ruthless but) we all knew it was coming from miles away although what had the biggest impact was the crash of defending champ and the key domestique and the biggest Jumbo Visma card called Dylan Van Baarle. cos now MVDP, unlike all the previous encounters, wasn't fighting against the giant Jumbo Visma but mano a mano vs Wout, like it's supposed to be (if the world was fair).
      but then came the twist cos even when Jumbo were out of the game, Laporte and Van Hooydonck made an insignificant attack, which gave wout an excuse to not pull, letting him conserve alotta watts.
      and the biggest turn of events was when MVDP tried to make one massive attack at the hardest cobbled sector but ended up getting tangled up with Dege and then Wout tried to take advantage of the situation by counter attacking on top but then twist of fate had his tyre punctured and rest is history.

    Hello LR viewers. What do you think of the following alternative rule for Paris-Roubaix?
    No riding in the gutter on the cobblestone sections (must stay on the cobbles for all parts of the race where there are cobbles) but there is a bike change station set up right after the final cobblestone section and there riders can switch to any bike you want (including TT).
    In this alternative, competitors would therefore plan to ride two different types of bikes (if they wanted to), one of which could be better suited to cobbles, and the other smooth pavement and the track at Roubaix. I think the bike companies would love it.

Was it tires? Pressures? Bad luck as everyone says? I would like to have heard more from Degenkolb about his kaps experience. He was looking strong before his crash. Did it help or not? Otherwise, interesting tech but so sad this great race and the super efforts of their riders was marred by so many badly-timed equipment failures.

    A question, Pogacar talks about needing to putting on a few kg for this race. Philipsen is by no means a big rider. I think Pogacar has a big chance on this one if he targets it. Super hard to actually win though. So many things have to go right.

    • @thefilipinoknight6617
      @thefilipinoknight6617 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pog needs it so he has the strength and power to distance the others because he thinks he doesn’t stand a chance at the sprint. Jasper has less pressure - just needs to follow and then outsprint everyone.
      I disagree with Pog in the sense that I think he can already be competitive. The sprint is not the only way to win against MVDP or WVA, and he can gain ground on them by conserving strength and letting them pull, then just going full gas the last 20k. The cobbles will help him lose them if he goes through at his insane pace and if they’re tired from attacking. Still, WVA and MVDP would likely be favorites.
