Tadej just attacked because he was offended that there was so much chaos and he wasn't the one causing it.
The doping kicked in 😂
@@apolloniusbeitsman5444 steroid aggression
🤣😂😅
It's just that DAWG IN HIM
"I'm a dog chasing cars. If I caught one, I wouldn't know what to do with it!"
Neilands still came in 4th, he still managed a sprint after all that solo work. What a rider.
My thoughts exactly. He hung tough to the end.
agreed. hell of a ride.
This Tour de France has been so chaoticly good this far. The planners went really of script this year and the teams are so confused. This makes it so much more entertaining
What do u mean by off script
@@carsonc4134the Netflix writers ofc
The usual script is 6 to 8 super boring flat only sprint stages until they finally are getting closer to some mountains.
When I first studied the route, I thought a number of decisions were influenced by the desire to limit long transfers and reduce the carbon footprint of the Tour. But this parcour has shaken up a number of patterns - to great positive affect. I hope Grand tour planners will continue to reduce transfers - AND design interesting parcours that encourage the riders to create exciting and creative racing that challenges the peloton.
Best TDF I've seen in 15 years. Simply bangin'.
Love these recaps, so much better than any of the official content.
True, though I have to say that the extended highlights from the official channel of the tour de France are nicely done this year!
I'm enjoying watching on GCN+. Do love the recaps and race narration here though. It's a nice topper for the day.
LR is the man, but TdF team level'd up this year. new editing team is fire
Not true. Watching live is obviously better than a recap.
I love that Wout just attacks first then tries to figure out if that makes sense later
Vingegaard and Pogacar both did the same thing lol. Love how crazy aggressive the new generation of superstars are, so much more fun than the conservatism of the prior decade.
its a good move because waiting isnt always the best thing. if you are that strong use some energy and watch what happens. you can sit up any time anyways.
@@ColinGLogan I was shocked by Vingegaard's early attack. He is usually the strategic, conservative type, but he seems far more wild this year. It was similar to how he rode the Dauphine, attacking even though he was far ahead in gc.
Van Aert indeed confirmed he got ahead on that climb to make sure he didn't get dropped. He said it was his worst day on a bike in the Tour ever.
I think both Vingagaard and Pogacar is trying to make every single day as hard as possible in the hopes that the other has an off day where they can take a minute off eachother. Pogacar knows Vingegaard has been stronger in the third week for the past two tours, and he hopes he might take minutes on him before then, and Vingegaard is just trying to make the race as hard as possible hoping Pogacar cooks in the heat some day on a mountain stage. It's interesting that they both seem so certain that they have the best legs. The weekend is gonna be great!
I think Jonas was better in third week because he had more energy saved and Tadej worked too hard in first two. This year is different with both of them riding hard first week and probably even this week so it will be interesting how it will play up in third.
@@fangru7294Vingegaard prepares for the TdF only while a Pogi rides classics etc so that's also a reason why he might get to the third week more tired. He's the best cyclist of them all it's amazing what he's doing.
Looking forward to Friday. Don’t think (hope I’m wrong) we’ll see much GC wise until Grand Colombier. That’s a monster of a final climb.
@@Jojos25 True but Pog had two months rest with only two weak race before tour so I think his form could be better in second half actually.
This seems like the perfect thread to add an observation I've also made. Vingegaard is even lighter than he was last year. Theoretically, this should help him climb better with a risk of worse recovery and resilience into the third week. With a harder start than last year, this could play a role. Too early to say anything for sure. It really seems like anything can happen. Vingegaard appears to be confident, saying that he thinks that most of the past climbs suited Pogačar better than him, while he thinks the upcoming climbs are more his style. Who knows if he's just playing confident for Danish media, but he doesn't seem like the cocky type. It sure is exciting to be a Danish cycling fan whose favourite cyclist is Pogačar. I just hope for the best racing and then I'm happy with either of the two winning.
Wout said afterwards he actually continued with MVDP to make sure he got over the final climb, so he could further help Vingegaard across the line. His legs were feeling a bit shaky all day
Lets face the truth they thought they would catch the breakaway. this stage was one WVA fancied it was made for him.
Love that Sean Kelly said they were racing like amateurs. 😂 I think the sun ☀️ was frying everyone’s brains 🧠
He was actually quoting MvdP who said that during classics season if I remember correctly.
I swear, turning on the auto subtitles immediately makes any lantern rouge video into the most hilarious comedy skit you've ever seen. Starring big names such as "Finger Garden" and "tadapagachi" 😂
And who is that "Miquél Bjørk" he keeps talking about?
True! It’s too distracting so I have to turn them off for that reason 🤣
😂 who is finger garden, that is so funny. I‘ve also seen Teddy Pikachu before which was hilarious
Oh wait I just got that it’s Vingegaard LMAO.
Thunderpool
It's great to see Chaves returning to form at EF, riding aggressively and getting in breaks. Rollercoaster career with injuries but always happy, smiling and grateful to be on his bike. Loved him on BSP.
Hope he gets a stage
This year’s Tour has been so unserious so far and I love it 😂
I just love when you do a VO guess of what they're saying on team coms. The MvdP/WVA dialogue made me crack up
What a wonderful TdF. So much entertainment. We live in the golden times of cycling.
The second Rocket Fuel Era! All that time at home alone during covid, they really perfected their “training techniques”!
I cannot remember a stage in any Grand Tour when I have spent more time with NO understanding of what was going on strategically. I watched the start thinking I would pause and go for a ride when the break settled in and a predictable pattern of racing presented itself - it never did and I had to watch the whole stage before I got on the bike.
The riders didn’t know what was going on either.
You got sprinters attacking right before a climb…
The still photos in your videos are superb and are really nicely integrated. I couldn’t make much sense of the tactics today but it looked like a hard day in the saddle. Fab recap as always LR 👍
40C is insane. respect to these warriors
WTF IS A CELCIUUUUUUUS RAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHG 🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I’ll never understand why they don’t move shorter/smaller races around so they could move the tdf up a couple of months. Little cooler weather
@@alaefarmestatesllc I don't think it used to be like this, weather has just been hotter than a decade or so ago. Even still, since the tour is supposed to be the pinnacle of human exertion, extreme heat (as long as it doesn't actively become dangerous) does fit into that nicely, for the riders it's hell either way
@@alaefarmestatesllcBecause it wouldn't make sense to have the biggest cycling competition in the world, which involves fans, during a time when most people are working. Therefore they have it in the summer, also in order to have a stage in the Bastille Day

boy oh boy I got some news for you
WVA and MVDP seem like they’re pulling goofs together in this tour.
Zimmermann said that he had to decide for the largest or 2nd largest gear for the sprint. He went for the largest, which was more than he could handle at the end of the stage.
We could clearly notice that in the final, you learn with your mistakes 💪
Very obvious to see from the overhead camera view. Almost a rookie mistake.
To answer the title, they went on a nice date :)
It started off nicely, but ended abruptly. One half fleeing without the other noticing.
Wout and MVDP just can’t help but race each other
My first TDF content to watch ! Love your work. Thanks
ZImmermanns attack at the end was brutal, the gap was huge and i thought he had it 100%. Kudos to Bilbao
My guess is that Van Aert attacked in case Pogacar attacked on the next climb (which was a very Pogacar-y climb), in which case Van Aert could be ahead in order to support Vinengaard and pace him back up to Pogacar on the descent
Why MVDP went up the road, idk, but WVA said in a dutch interview that he was just sitting on his wheel when he went. He than just stayed cause it meant he could get over the next clim with less energy
He was feeling sick, had no voice whatsoever
It just wasn't a hard enough training day for Wout and MVDP.
Hard enough that they could not catch the breakaway, pair of bigheads.
@@doommonger7784 get over yourself. They are exceptional athletes and they make the race entertaining. Be glad we have guys like these in the sport
@@doommonger7784bet you enjoyed the Sky Train in all of its boring monotony.
mvdp has solo closed that kinda gaps before. he just didn't wanna snap his finger this time.
@@doommonger77842 monuments for MVDP what u talking about bozo🤣🤣
Wow these recaps are top tier!! Thank you for the coverage
Zimmermann is a lot of fun. A true brave fighter. He is gonna be even better with more experience ❤️
Zimmerman looking like a track sprinter starting from a standstill :D Guy unfortunately messed up the gearing from the looks of it, and couldn't get the momentum going quickly enough to beat Bilbao at the line.
yes, he said in the interview that he had to decide for the largest or 2nd largest gear for the sprint. He went for the largest, which was more than he could handle at the end of the stage.
You guys rock , love the commentary. Looking forward to second rest day antics 🤘🏼
Crazy stage. I love it!
LR - you are nailing these recaps. More please
epic stage!!!
A race within a race is always nice to see
Bilbao ❤
Now I just want a Pinot win ❤
Good analysis from you yet again. This was the best stage yet in my opinion
Interesting stage Excellent report
one of your best, succinct summaries yet
Honestly think Van Aert went out defensively at the risk of Pogacar attacking Jonas on the last climb. He never went further than 30 seconds off the front of the peloton, which I suspect he was more than capable of. But at this point, Pogacar taking even just 5 seconds would probably end up mattering in the GC. But as Skjeldmose said before the stage, rumors are that Van Aert are going home tomorrow, so might just be him going off just for the fuck of it.
One more good, aggressive stage and O'Connor is back in the top 10!
The more chaotic a stage gets, the more fun it is to watch.
Wout and MVDP just wanted to chat about cyclocross
Busy old stage. Good work on the recap 👍
Best recaps in the business
6:15 - is this why Van Aert goes in breakaways in general? To get a head start on climbs, since he's a slower climber, so he can be at the top to help Jonas on the descent.
I like using WVA as a wildcard cuz it takes jumbo off the front making ineos or another team pace.
Speculation that WVA was given the go ahead to push to see if he (and MVDP) could catch the breakaway because WVA plans to leave the race tomorrow to fly home for the birth of his next child.
Juicy cycling gossip I love it
So you just know nothing as you say it yourself: speculation.
just love to see that even LR is struggling to explain what some riders/teams were doing here :D
Beat breakdown yet. 👏🏼
Excellent recap. Fenix must be really happy for getting shout outs by all commentators and not having to put up $$.
yo just wondering what happened between pogacar and vingegaard as I couldnt catch the stage today
Heat must have affected Wout and MVDP's bad judgement, that's my only explanation.
If MVDP goes to the toilette, Wout follows him.
@@brulsmurf Meh, MVDP is the classic "wieletjeszuiger", a true succesor to Joop Zoetemelk
@@bv2623 really? I never caught him doing anything tactical smart on a roadbike. He just throws down insane amounts of power and sometimes nobody can follow.
The tactics were quite difficult to understand. Maybe Jonas was trying to do what Pog had done at Amstel by getting into the front group; but that was highly unlikely to be successful with such a quality field. WvA and MVdP's sojourn up the road was even more strange.
Perhaps wishful thinking on my part, but perhaps... this current crop of top riders- Pog, JV, WVA, MVdP, Roglic, Remco, all recognize the importance of putting on a good show for the fans, they like being in the entertainment business. Its the big personalities like Sagan, Cav and Alaphillipe that get the big $$. So sometimes they make tactical mistakes. No more Sky train just grinding all of the joy out of the sport.
Now we have the Jumbo train.
@@doommonger7784 Jumbo train is designed to launch Jonas though. They rarely take it all the way up the big mountains like Sky so often did.
Amen brother!
@@ColinGLogan The only reason they don't get the team up the high mountains is because apart from Kuss they can't, unlike Sky who had great climbers to help in the high mountains. If Jumbo had the same quality they would do the same. The jealousy over Sky's achievements on this board with comments from rival team fans downgrading its records by saying it was boring is laughable, its not their fault when no other team was willing to take them on.
@@doommonger7784 Jumbo could absolutely pace to have domestiques make it over the top if they wanted to, there are days when Kuss can drop everyone but the top 2, and if they went a bit slower they could probably take a group of ~8 riders with Kelderman in it over big climbs too. They drop because that's the strategy: they charge up the climb, using up all the other guys, and Jonas attacks as Kuss fades.
It is true that we can't know whether they want to pace like that though, not because they don't have the riders to, but because Pogi won't let them go slowly - if Jonas doesn't attack, he will, and Jumbo's domestiques obviously can't keep up with him.
Was hoping for Zimmermann. I‘m German 🥲
So why do they race in the afternoon and not the morning?? Or not in the summer...
At the end of the race, Bilbao announces to nearby riders, are we all together?
OK, now eat my dust.
Pogi only needs to follow yellow.. and attack near the end of the race...
He seems not really intelligent. Because of such bullshit he might have not enough energy left in future :D
I feel sorry for non English speaking cycling fans who don't get to enjoy the best recaps on the web. Ever thought of hiring someone to do other languages or add subtitles? We need this quality to promote the sport!
Best recaps bar none. If there were yellow jerseys for recaps, this would wear it.
Is it the first time Jonas Kind of "attacked" Pogi like in this stage, at the beginning?
Love the recaps. BTW Jonas surname is pronounced vin-ge-go.
it's pronounced Fingergarden!
This stage looks like that bug in Pro Cycling Manager, when the riders won't stop reeling at full pace and attacking until there's only 60k left
Love how majority of TH-camrs and announcers go out of their way to pronounce all but the Danish/Norse riders names correctly
Both of them have a strong instinct for running
This is the BEST race report! Listening to the big guy on The Move stutter and stammer is embarrassing.
I still haven't recovered from Cav crashing out 😩
Tadej and Vin testing their juice for the day
WVA has never been the sharpest pencil in the box, but this was ridiculous.
40C eh? just another Missouri summer afternoon, except add 80% humidity and 30C dewpoint. i'd love to see the pro peloton try to survive a tour of the American Midwest.
I wanna know what Bilbao said to Zimmerman when he passed him
That’s hot day
Yet pogacar seems fine
Latern you're starting to talk too fast 🤷🏻♂️, which TH-cam commentator are you drafting 🤷🏻♂️?😆
Wout's head/heart isn't totally in the race. He's thinking about the birth of 2nd child.
Just going by the race thus far, he is 100% focused on the race.
Men they should have planed their birth making process a little better for after tour de France
@@personlichkeitsentwicklung5375 Yes. As if that's something everybody can plan.
@@l.d.t.6327 So why not go for the Green jersey points at every opportunity? And don't tell me they have diff. tactics. We're talking Wout van Aert here. Anyway, good day
@@personlichkeitsentwicklung5375 Hey, stuff happens.... lol
Van Aert's wife is pregnant, belgian commentators were saying "maybe it's a good bye Tour de France ride !"
MVDP is using the Tour to train for road worlds and mtn bike worlds.

Alpecin fenix? Had to do a double take lol. I'm also guilty of still calling it that.

Is tadej wasting energy or is he just feeling too good?
I think he is trying to get into his best form..
Training for WC where they will compete against each other again, as they did for 20 years allready
Go WvA and MvdP
Some kind of bonehead strategies abound this year.Tadej and Jonas are clearly the brains and the skill here.
Wout just seems in a bit of a no-man’s land this tour. I just can’t see where his focus is - Stage wins? Protecting the yellow jersey? Attacking Pog? Even though he played two opposing roles last year, there was still a clear focus on his objectives stage by stage. This year I just can’t see where he’s at. Can anyone enlighten me?
They probably dont know either, because he could jumpout at every moment, due to his wives pregnancy.
@@larah9870vA is the spring classics leader. They built an entire team for him and around him. And he also recently said that his focus are the spring classics and monument. If would ever decide to focus on grand tour GC, he would have to give up the spring classics. So far, his spring classic palmares is lacking some major results (only RVV 1x for example).
@@larah9870 What do you mean he is not helped? Jonas and Jumbo has spent so much energy in sprint stages catching breakaways to make sure Wout has a chance for victory.
After a stage where Wva pulled the peloton for the last half of the stage, after a stage where he put big pressure on pogacar’s team twice by going in the break, and after 2 stages he nearly won (blocked bu Philipsen in 1, blocked by Laporte in the other), you’re saying that he’s in no-man’s land…
A little faster with the top 10 recap at the end next time please
Was there ever a pure climbing team?
the euskatel team back in the days were all climbers i think. they were all skeleton thin.
Cafe du Colombia
In the 80s, they got wrecked in the first flat week and ITTs and lost time then started wrecking and attacking in the mountains always finishing top 10 with Luis Herrera.
You could say they were in the same van
Wout got bored that he wants to tag along MVDP to mark checked their yearly ride in the tour.
WVA dropped MVDP on the cat 3 or else they would have made it and it would have been fun at the finish.
mvdp sat up at the foot of the climb cos it was a fruitless chase... it's clearly seen on the footage.
Very odd day for some riders….it’s like they had no radios…
Furore, foray...
Think I watched the wrong end of this stage
Please tell me Pog didn't kill himself trying to win this while the JV guys sat in and laughed at him again this year...
Zimmermann had this in the pocket but used the wrong gear to start the sprint
They’re prob asking why you aren’t riding a bike for a pro cycling team than just sitting behind a PC 🤫
Bilbao had nothing to say ?
Pog attacked because he is the best and wants everyone to know it. Sort of like a guy named Eddy....
Cycling is just a mess atm. The stagnation is real. I like how you can create drama from very little. Though the Eurosport commentary team aren't even subtle about it. Setting up sound bites to be used for future advertising at every turn. Like I said, a mess.
Wout just lost tones of energy for nothing. Crazy move again on this tour by TJV... eh
Zimmerman with too heavy gearing in the final sprint
