So here it is, the final Marathon Edition Movie for the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy. It's time to see the last chapter in Lightning's story. I hope you all enjoy :) Here is the description from part 1 of the episodic version, should answer some questions about the movie:
1) This movie contains subtitles. Ever since I made my Final Fantasy XIII movie without them I have regretted it, and prefer to have my videos reach as many people as possible. This includes those with hearing difficulties and that have English as a secondary language. I appreciate that subtitles detract from the visual experience, but I don't have the time to upload 2 separate versions, so I have to go for the one that will allow the greatest number of people to understand the story.
2) As the FFXIII games have progressed it has become more and more difficult to turn them into movies. This game is pretty bad for any in-game stuff. They have introduced a new bar on the bottom left of the display that is present at all times and cannot be removed (unlike the map). The autosave icon is also intrusive, and is still present 5-10 seconds into a cutscene. There isn't a lot I can do about this, I have obviously removed all loading screens where applicable. The battle system is also very cluttered with a crowded UI and a lot of information on screen. For the Boss battles I started out by removing them entirely like I did for most of FFXIII and FFXIII-2, but afterwards changed my mind since they were a fairly important part of the quests, so I kept them in, but as "highlights", showing only major attacks/staggers etc. Only a few minor boss battles were skipped early on.
3) I believe that listening to the in-game conversations and getting to see the environments add greatly to the experience so I will take my time and make this movie version to the best of my ability. Since the game features a running clock and cannot be completed until the 13th day, I put in some sidequests where applicable to space out the main story events and pad the story out a little more. Despite this I completed all the main quests by day 8 so I had to skip the last few days, for days 9-12 only the important story cutscenes were shown, since it was sidequest only for those days... I am almost certain that someone will put out a shorter cutscene only version, feel free to watch something like that instead.

It's not as clean as I would have liked it to be (FFXIII was the best in terms of creating a movie, this one has been the worst so far, not even quick time events that I could keep in for action sequences)... I hope you stick around and watch this series the whole the way through, this is the last Final Fantasy movie I'll be making until the long anticipated Final Fantasy XV (except for re-uploading my FFX Movie with the HD remastered edition).
Lighting has awoken from her seemingly eternal sleep and has returned once again. A servant of God, she must save as many souls as she can from a world approaching the end of days. She begins her mission by meeting Snow, her sister's fiancee... It's not entirely clear how he is still alive, and things get even more confusing when it becomes apparent that Hope Estheim is providing "radio" support... After our initial encounter, Lighting warps back to the Ark, where Hope awaits her, and he explains some of what we've been missing, and fills Lightning in on the details of her mission.

I spent 11 days exploring only 3 regions (finished mais missions), and on the 12th day i went to the dead dune. By the end of the day, they said Game over. What am i supposed to do now ? I don't wanna repeat the game from scratch.
@@friendlycreature6375 I made the same mistake myself the first time I played the game I got soap in depth with trying to find all the hidden armaments and weapons and abilities that I lost track of time at least you can start from the beginning but everything you've already learned thank you for this new gameplay good luck next time you try
By the way why playing this game did you know that you going to lock lightning starting Corps uniform Valkyrie God of armor but you have to play first Final Fantasy XIII and Lightnings Return to unlock them and she's walking around like wearing these people make references reference to the goddess of death Etro if you wearing a guardian for uniform people make reference to cocoon reference to the first Final Fantasy XIII game you walk past people wearing the stuff you can this hidden Easter egg
The cinematics in this game are absolutely gorgeous.
Too bad the gameplay is really really messy and the story that goes with it is just horrendous.

As far as gameplay goes, 13-3 is without a doubt the best iteration of 13's battle systems... I enjoyed it way more than 13 and 13-2's...
***** The combat is definitely excellent and unique. The problem lies with everything else and how messy it can be without a guide or foreknowledge. The time mechanic seriously could be done away with. This is one game I feel should be way more linear.

I just have to say, Final Fantasy games are this strange mix of euphoria and sadness.
While that's true, it's what makes Final Fantasy one of the best long standing series legends that it is. I couldn't imagine the series any other way and still love it the way I do.

I have to say Serah's was sad but the ending still felt earned. They literally resurrected every person who ever died and it still didn't feel like a cop-out. I have to applaud them for that. There was just so much suffering that who wouldn't want an ending like that. Anything less would be too cruel. Serah's death still had a lot of meaning and that is a hard thing to do when you undo those sort of things. The implications have to be grand and boy... we're they grand. That was some Gurren Lagann + Space Runaway Ideon levels of crazy. If you've seen both of those shows you know what I mean. So much emotion. It tells the story of an entire age, a universe, from beginning to end. I'm floored.

Eh, I disagree. That ending was the biggest cop-out ever with “MLP friendship is magic” levels of cringe.
While it arguably makes sense given the context of literally everyone being “dead” or “a soul” going to the new world… yeah, no, it was too free of consequence.
Lightning was spared her fate of taking Etro’s place by Yuel. And even (the last) Yuel was spared from her fate - cause Caius said so?
So the goddess of death - while somewhat fitting for Yuel since she was made in Etro’s image and the first human - is a chaotic mass of a splintered, indecisive soul? That’ll end well. (Not to mention allowing one of those splintered souls - the last Yuel - a being intrinsically tied to the unseen realm and chaos - to be reborn and roam the new world??)
@@tiamod I will disagree here. I think the ending was very consistent with the mythos they were developing over XIII-2 and LR, about the role of chaos in maintaining the balance of life and the essence of humanity. Throughout LR especially we see multiple times that Bhunivelze cannot see into the chaos or shape it, and therefore it could be powerful enough to defeat him. The main obstacle was that very few people could actually control its power. Yeul could, which is why she makes sense as a goddess of death (especially since, during the main quest in the Wildlands, it seemed like the Yeul came to a consensus, except for the last Yeul, who was freed), but otherwise you'd need help. So a "friendship is magic" ending, as you put it, was really the only way to execute it WITHOUT being cheap or doing anime levels of plot convenience. And I feel like that wasn't really the point either. The main conflict/resolution was Lightning being able to heal her own soul by accepting herself and being vulnerable. That was the real conflict throughout the game, and done very well.
And about it being "free of consequence"...remember this is the end of the trilogy. All of the characters have faced hundreds of years' worth of hardship at this point. There have been consequences, sacrifices, and loss along the way. I don't think it's bad storytelling if, at the end of it all, the characters finally overcome the last enemy and get to have some peace. They've kind of earned it at this point.
This trilogy had me crying tears of joy by the end. The story the characters the way everything blended together so seamlessly. The way they turned this final fantasy into the history humanity. Into a past long forgotten but never completely gone. There will always be things we can never know for sure. Things that defy what we believe to be true. What we believe to be reality. Not everything can be explained or rationalized by our current way of thinking but in time things may become clearer. Maybe eventually we will be able to fully see this world that we live in for what it really is. To understand the mysteries that hide just beyond our grasp.
One of the biggest pay offs in the FF franchise. Kinda feel sorry for those that ragequit after the first game. This ending is just perfection

I think the only reason there isn't 250 instead of 25 is because it's a 9 hour 1080p that took a lot of effort to make. If the ratings were based on the game and the quality of the story it probably would have been a lot worse :P

This whole game is awesome, but that section between 8:42:55 and 8:46:15? That is absolutely gold. The reunion and wrap up worth waiting three games for.

Agree. I think this is a very good game and I would like to see more of this kind of "action jrpg" games.
The problem is that it's not that good Final Fantasy game, at least not in term of story and character interactions. It has some really nice side quest, but main stories are not on par with Final Fantasy serie.
And that's what causes all that hate, imho. But when I have accepted this as a different take on FFXIII and accepted that they are clearly out of ideas how to wrap up the serie (especialy since Caius made such wonderfull mess) i'm having blast playing it thanks to game mechanics.
Just wish they made many garbs less, let's say, "risqué" ;)
The whole game is great. It's like people all of a sudden forgot that pretty much every Final Fantasy (and basically all JRPGs for that matter) are wacky and have ridiculous stories. It surprises me that people complain about it so much, when really, it just comes with the territory... Well no, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Nowadays, there's just so much bickering about this game being terrible, and that game being terrible, that I guess it should be expected. I don't know why gamers are so hostile these days. Video games are supposed to be about fun, and it's baffling to me how some people just get so offended over the fact that someone else's idea of fun is different than their own... It's insane! Insane I tells ya!!! :P

Thank you so much for making these! I watched all 3 of the XIII games and it was like I was experiencing it all over again without the grind to get there. Your efforts are majorly appreciated. I just wish Square had showed us the other characters in the new world, maybe at Serah and Snow's wedding or something like that.

the end of this game had me thinking the lifestream, or the earth's spirit from Spirits within, but I don't know how to explain it, it's really awesome that this game made such bold statements against the ideology of a corrupt God and didn't seem to cover it up. I love Final Fantasy for a lot of reasons but most of all for the feeling of love and friendship u get from each character

I don't get why people hate the 13 series so much. To me the story is really unique :/
The games are gorgeous and i love the story and characters (even had affectionate dislike for some if that makes sense, like lulzing at Snows cheesiness or Vanilles cutesiness) but the gamplay, while visually impressive just not that much fun. I really disliked the first games linearity. Of all 3 games xiii-2 was by far the most enjoyable for me. And fetch quests that permeate the series and in the 3rd game becomes your only way of leveling was a huge wtf for me and a decided chore.
But the beauty in the rendering, the story, the characters alone made it worth my while to play the series though i probably wont replay them bc the gameplay just was not as fun and engaging as say ff6 (my all time personal fave that i still play sometimes!). I can see where the hate comes from even if i dont personally agree w it
lilmissyblee1981 I noticed that 3 had a lot of really ugly textures however, by far the most out of the 3. Don't get me wrong, some areas look great and the cutscenes (especially the one with snow and the ending) are fucking jaw dropping, but you can tell they rushed other parts of the game.

I love it because you get to play costume with Lightning alongside move sets! Reminds me of FFX-2 when the girls get to transform to different costumes as well.
I want to play this game, but I cannot stand games that are time based.
I want to enjoy every minute I play, not have to rush through it.
I thought so first and that was the reason I never wanted to buy it. Then i got it for free and damn.. I took my time. I completed A LOT of sidequests, explored everything possible, and made some monsters go extinct. Thanks to the ability that lets you freeze time for a realtime minute, I was able to do everything I wanted and even had to use a hotel room to skip the 12th day to go to the last day. It is definitely worth it and completing the game is just the beginning. There are more things unlocked in New Game+ like enhancing your shields or weapons. I completed it on easy first, now im on normal, then I'll play hard. Then, I'll go back to easy, unlock the 14th day for the REAL strongest boss out there to get my platinum trophy.
Took me 45 hours for my first playtrough. It will probably be over 150 hours until im done with this game.
Buy it. It's worth it!

Well it really does sound amazing, I'm glad that there seems to be a lot too it because I love games that have some sort of continue once you finish the game.
I will definitely check it out when I can, most of the reason I wanted it was because of the cloud strife DLC clothing, haha.

This game was filled with so much fear, saddness and sorrow just imagine what it would be like feeling all of it and being in a god like situation..... but in the end they all got through and it finally was all over sooo much emotion, Yuel was back with noel and sarah was back everyone came back, I have to say it was a fantastic story Final Fantasy never fails to create a wonderful story and turning this into a movie would be impossible.

simply because Square Enix developed such a wonderful-.. no beautiful masterpiece! this really has been the best sequel of all time! Lightnings character was the best infact all of them where, everyone was unique and had a major role to play.. i honestly didnt expect Hope or Vanille to have a major part in FF 13.. i have only played the first 2 games of FF 13 not this one and i wasnt expecting eveyone to have a big role this game/story.. it has really moved/touch a nerve in me its so majestic and just breath taking.. i really do hope that when FF 14/15 comes out, i hope it follows up on Lightning again she was a really great main protagonist and she was so badass..
i really want them to continue the story like years later.. married... living happily then all hell breaks loose because of something different.. maybe a new god comes into the world and tries to destroy everything again.. i dunno i just wanna see Lightning again shes so damn awesome.. but i dont think its gonna happen.. looking at the ending it seems as though that story has finished now.. so the next Final Fantasy game that does come out will have a new protagonist, characters and new story.. etc

I really love FF13 story and universe, but now it's time for the next. FF15 is coming and he looks really good for now. More of that in FF15 we got somes aspect of 13 because of Fabula Nova Crystallis.
Etro is the Goddess of Death in FF15 and she give power to Noctis and Stella when they was child because they live a near death experience. More of that, i think we gonna have sequel(s) of FF15 because in lyrics of a music in FF15 we can hear "Deus dormit" that means "God is slepping. They don't say that about Etro because they talk about her later in the music when saying "Goddess". So we maybe gonna see Bhunivelze later !

The only thing that holds Lightning Returns back is that stupid clock. It feels restricting and the game doesn't specifically tell you that the only way to get more days is by doing the main quests so there I was exploring the world and doing side quests and canvas board quests thinking that was giving me more days only to find out just in time that it wasn't.
The only main quest I had done up to that point was Noel's. So I had to rush on my final day to complete another main quest but unfortunately it was the one with Caius which I had a hard time beating. I was going from final day to final day doing mostly main quests and abusing the crap out of chronostasis and not being able to explore and go through the game at my own pace. I was glad when the clock was gone at the end of the game. I felt free. But don't get me wrong. I like the game and loved running around that huge world doing quests and exploring what I could. I even plan on doing a new game plus on hard mode. It's just that the clock was a disappointment. and Lightning Returns would have been perfect if not for that
It's such a unique story. that boss battle was epic as hell. I loved this ending. I'm so glad serah came back and yeul came back to noel
what i really like about the game is how they put lighting as the main character, so it shows that not every main protagonist in a game is a male, and lighting is strong,she doesn;t need any help from others and she wants to save her sister alone, i really really like this game,it has girl power! and i don't care about others' hates everyone has their opinions
you realize they pretty much explain in the game that lightning can't do it alone. that the only reason she doesn't care about those things because she cut the emotions that make her care a long time ago. I figure most people understood that when they state that lightning tried to kill serah because she made lightning weaker. in the end lightning did need help from everyone and lightning never wanted to be alone. She only wanted to be strong for serah. that sortof went out the window.
They make lightning the main character, I was so excited... then you play dress up..... My heart sank.... I couldn't continue to play this
Uh wrong story for solo-girl-power. Tomb Raider is more like that. Lightning gets help from everyone, even someone she abandoned (who automatically forgave her and help her secretly). Yeah if you want Lightning as girl power, it's more like facade of power and control for the girl, while everyone helps her without taking any credit.

I really loved FFXIII... that beautiful ending has worth it.
Whew, after three parts in this series, we are finally seeing the ending five centuries later. I love it! Such an epic battle and touching reunion. Serah definitely played a pivotal role in all three whether active or inactive in the storyline. Seeing Mog, Noel, Snow and Lightning finally seeing her back in the end is touching. Mog & Serah's goodbye is definitely a poignant point for me after their adventures come to an end. Gorgeous graphics! Kinda would like to see them in a new adventure of sorts but I'm okay with the ending in a new world for them.

Jesus christ, just thinking about the time of time this would have taken to render is frightening...
Since this was a cut and paste of the individual parts my video editing software didn't need to re-encode them so it was quick. But the indivdual parts took a total of around 7-8 hours to render 60GB worth of video :) It was the upload/processing that was more painful :)

This game put me through emotions I didn't know I could feel. And with how difficult the first 2 were I couldn't help but get attached. This is the greatest game I have ever played. And it always will be. And damn the people who hated this one!

Very impressive work, you skimped unneeded battles, cut out the boring parts, even roleplayed in the right moments, I sort of wish you'd have shown certain battles but that would be an extra hour to watch and many wouldn't like that. You did an incredible job to make this as easily and thoroughly accessible to everyone. Well done.

I just watched this entire freakin thing. all 9 hours its 6:16 am for me and i'd say staying up was worth it. I never played the game all the way lost the drive to. but im happy i got to see that ending. that ending was worth the 9 hours i just sat here to watch this video on. It means so much more if you're also invested in the gameplay and the random NPC interactions / world but yes at least you watched it instead of just ragequitting and never coming back in any sense

Lightning finally smiled at the very end after the credits, best expression ever! Lightning has a great face, but it was never really appealing because she's always too serious, but the genuine smile at the end was like... holy crap! *jaws dropping* It's so refreshing, she looks so much more attractive as a character with that smile 9:05:10 And oh my god the freaking graphics, just amazing

The story of the whole FF XIII is really great. Unfortunately it's only the story and not the game itself....But the story is great! I love it! Even if Square Enix sucks in the gameplay, they write absolutly amazing stories! The Charakters looks beautiful and just like the whole world! I just hope that the gameplays in the future is going to be better and that the stories are stay amazing.

While 13's gameplay was horrible, it did introduce the new battle system which eventually kicked ass in the sequels. The gameplay of 2 and 3 is incredibly fun!
