- Fran Marlatt celebrated her 100th birthday on Halloween day. We were together for Thanksgiving and as I was saying farewell I asked her if she was ready to go for a flight and she said sure, without hesitation. She requested that we fly up around the Catalina Mountains, so that's where we went. She had no problems getting in or out of the plane, which I was happy to see. She really enjoyed the flight!!

Lucky her, thoughtful you, great flight. Thank you for posting!
Thank you for making her birthday so special for her. You truly are an angel!!
Thanks. I'm no angel, but I do have wings that let me fly high and it made her very happy. 👍
What a beautiful birthday present. Jim, I hope you can take me for a ride like that when I turn 100. It will be good exercise for both of us.
Emanuel, you've got a deal! 😂 The good exercise would be getting in and out of the plane for both of us at that age. Fran made it look too easy!
Very nice. I also enjoyed the flight, thank you.
@johncrooks8979 Thanks John. It was fun on a perfect day for it. 👍
Happy Birthday Fran. I enjoyed the flight too. I have to ask a question though, why does it look like the propeller is turning slowly or isn't turning at all? It makes me nervous.
@dhall7570 that is caused by the camera taking 30 shots per second, so as the rpms change the propeller speed appears to slow down or it even can turn backwards, but don't worry, the engine is running fine. It is most noticeable when I reduce power when gliding or when landing at idle settings.
@@jimhefner Thank you for the explanation!
@@dhall7570 you're welcome. That's a common question since it looks so odd. 😊
Jim, Is There in Aero Club on Davis Monthan airbase where civilians can rent a small plane and pilot to take them up? I used to do this on Kirtland AFB but do not know the protocol here. Would like to show a couple relatives around the area.
Hi Jonathan, unfortunately it doesn't appear there is an aero club at DM or anywhere else in AZ.... myairforcelife.com/aero-club-directory/ NM, CA and CO have some, but not AZ. Marana airport has rental planes... there may be others that I'm not aware of. Sorry about that.
