Weve done the predator repower on a 60" exmark 3 yrs ago. Not a problem one. Didnt use a spacer plate just drilled new holes. Theres enough adjustments on the belts. Itll run circles around other mowers. Great torque
So sorry to hear of your fathers passing..... I lost mine in 2002 and my mother in 2009 and it is never easy. As long as you keep them in your heart and mind they will always be with you.
Sorry to see about your Dad; I miss mine a lot so know a little of what you went through. God bless you for taking care of your parents. I enjoy your videos including this one, thanks. Greg
Sorry to hear of your dad's passing. I'm glad you got along so well. My dad's been gone for so long but I sure miss him. Most of our times were working doing all repairs on our cars or houses tractors , mowers everything. We built houses from the ground up complete plumbing , electric , heating . Hunting and fishing , crabing our fun times growing up was the best times. All that built me into a self sufficient man. And I bet yours wasn't much different . Ill be remembering you and your family , give mom some extra hugs she 'll depend on you my friend . God bless you and you have my condolences, take care of yourself
@@TheBackyardMachineShop very sorry to hear about tour dad.....I just found his channel. I'm down in Savannah, Ga.....have enjoyed this video...your dad will be bringing value for so many for years to come....wow.
Aw, Mike. So sorry about your dad. Today is October 9. Lost my mom last week and was catching up on videos in my "me" time. They're in our hearts. Thanks, John
Mike, so sorry to see the news about your Dad. A nice tribute though. Prayers will continue your family to adjust to what we call the "new normal" when a loved one passes...it takes time to grieve and adjust.
Mike sorry for your families loss. I know it's tough. On the other hand I just purchased a 2007 40 inch Gravely ztr with 90 hours on it. It was a trade in at a local dealer and I purchased it for not much over his trade in value as it's the end of the season and he was covered up in trade ins.
Some people do not yet understand that $500 more is a big price to pay for a name engine going into an old piece of machinery. I am wondering if there is a reason other than habit that you set a location from the DRO, drilled then changed tools and tapped, versus drilling all the locations, then changing the tool and doing all the tapping? I find I can locate, or relocate a lot faster than I can change tools then change back. So far, my holes, threads and chamfers all happen in the correct spot.
Ah, makes sense. I haven't always had a DRO, but I also haven't been doing this as long as you have. If I had to still count turns I would probably also do the same. Thanks for the videos!
Bad thing on these is when the engine is worn out, the hydro pumps are about worn out, and the hydro drive motors are about worn out too. If they kept the hydro system serviced and changed oil maybe they will be OK. With a blown rod in second engine, its most likely not the case.
Older Bolens XL tractors had the Tecumseh OH120, OH140,OH160 and OH180 Engine on it that had the Extension shaft. That bolts right up to the 670 predator engine. Did not have to make a Output shaft. Just use one of them. A whole lot cheaper
I had a similar thought to use that engine, the reason i didnt was because I didnt know if parts would be available for it. What are your thoughts on that?
I got lucky. Got an exmark quest s34 800 hrs going strong. But got to lookin around and found exmark is using locin motors. Loncin makes predator for the hazzard fraught. The 452 exmark is $1200 the same motor from loncin is 260$ delivered.
did the swap on a ferris., great engine, it even broke the bolt off that holds the clutch on. hmmmm... shaft needs to really be wider than what it is. that #8 bolt is the toughest to get out when broke. fits in a kawasaki 691 or 725 series spot flawlessly
I know this is an old thread, but i am swapping a honda gx 690 into my exmark. Did the predator have the same crank snout length ? the honda appears to be longer? can i just get a bushing built to space it out ? did you need to do this on the predator?
As an old machinist , the time and material used on this job is very expensive. The money you spend , you could have bought another Kohler ,and bolted it on original setup for less money! Must have lot of time and material at your disposal!!!
It gets to the point, with all that's wrong with that mower, it might not be worth it. You can find good deals on used commercial mowers in excellent condition if bought at the right time of year and you have ready cash. That's what I did but, I don't have the skills nor tools you have.
Briggs /Stratton 18hp/23hp have ball bearing and a replaceable sleeve in the crank/block Kohler Command Pro does NOT have any replaceable bearings Most parts are made in China

Thanks for the reply, My dad was a pattern maker and taught me a lot, I will miss him but deep down I am relieved he isn't suffering anymore.

Thanks it's been rough but I take comfort in knowing he's not suffering like he was
I like that the project will have a variety of types of work along it's path to being back into service. Thanks for sharing.
Yes lots a work. every leaf turned only revels another leaf
RIP Mr Wiggins May you all be blessed He'll Always in your heart Mike
Thanks Kyle
That Predator is going to do a heck of a great job on that mower!
Great choice! No need to pay double for a "name" that really isn't any better.
Thanks for watching and leaving a reply
I have no problem with the predator engine. Very sorry for your loss.
All the best!
Mike
Thanks for watching Mike
So sorry about your dad. Good video Mike keep them coming..

Nothing wrong with predator , great motors ! great work on the plate Mike ..
Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment
R.I.P. Mr. Wiggins. Great video Mike!

Congrats on the Gravely. One that was on my list
Thanks also for the prayers
You will be able to mow a lot of ground in a hurry with that. Thanks for the video.
I hope so
My deep condolences, Mike ....
Thanks its been a long week
I am so sorry about your Dad. That's a wound that only time can heal.
Thanks Mr Charles

Thanks for watching. To answer your question I was taught on a mill without a DRO, and I am still more comfortable doing without changing location
Ah, makes sense. I haven't always had a DRO, but I also haven't been doing this as long as you have. If I had to still count turns I would probably also do the same. Thanks for the videos!
this was an easy job, it only required a 10k $ lathe and 30 years of machining experience!
Very sorry to hear about your dad Mike. Another library closed.
Thanks Tom
Interesting project, I'll be watching every installment.
Thanks for watching John

Im going through everything, still what I have invested I'm still way ahead
im gonny say put pedals on it! not worried about what the motor is, though a v8 might be exciting, cant argue when youre the one paying for it
Thought about putting a Yanmar diesel if I could figure out how to make it work

Like the handle on your mill
Thanks
My condolences about your dad. 72 is too young.
Thanks,

do not let people tell you how to do what you do so well

Put lots of good padding in that seat, you won't regret it. ; )
Planning on it
My deep condolences, Mike.Jon Krup, (Railfan 439 on TH-cam)
Thanks for the reply

Interesting motor swap, but not a good idea to throw chips at the generator. Sorry for your loss also.
Thanks Robert
I had good luck with a HF 6.5hp motor. seems to be good.
But I have a zerto turn and I must say bigger hp is better.
Thanks for watching and leaving a reply
That moving jaw lifts quite a bit on your Kurt, is that normal?
Yes the vice was abused and needs some work
Hi..any experience with a predator 22hp swap on a Kubota zero turn
Small engines are less than 1000 cc. The biggest Briggs I’ve seen was a Vanguard at 993 cc and the biggest Kohler I think is 999 cc.
Can you machine everything that you made for your Predator motor for me for my Exmark?
That would be nice.
I gather that Harbor Freight got rid of their vertical shaft engines.
Hold on your telling me you can use a vertical engine horizontally , without any problems ? I thought they had a different oil pump set up ?
I’m pretty sure they’re both horizontal motors
Sorry about your dad.
DITTO!
Eli D.
Thanks Brian and Eli
Exactly what I would have done
How much you charge to fabricate this.. and ship it to me

Where's your safety glasses
those are horizontal shaft motors you said vertical
I'm doing a repower on a 06 ex mark from a craftsman rider 25 kohler 250$ market place
if i had the money i would buy a 670cc for my mini bike
Predator is a better engine
Thanks John, I plan on finding out
Predator = Yamaha clone
too long winded
Sorry about your dad.
Thank you
