Luigi's Mansion has always had this... eerie vibe. like, the way the ghosts look to how the layout on the menu screens look like something out of an outdated website from the 90s, and even how Luigi himself looks. and all the darker implications like Chauncey's situation and how all the ghosts were once living people, and don't even get me started on the beta and lost stuff like the chef ghost. that's why i love this game so much, you get to experience all the fear that Luigi goes through, it's so creepy and even flatout terrifying in some parts, it's brilliant, really. Luigi had an awesome first main game!!

I get they have the simple more humanoid design and they’re bosses but they never came from or was put in a painting. Instead they’re just called Boss Ghosts, because when you look at the ghost collection, and there’s these 4 different categories of ghosts. 1 is Regular Ghosts 2 is Boss Ghosts 3 is Rare Ghosts and 4 is Boos. (Probably in wrong order but the 1st is just Ghosts.)

I still like this game more than the new ones. They don't have the same feeling. Overall LM 3 missed an opportunity to make the hotel scary and it could've been so much cooler. Not to mention there is lack of character in the bosses. In the first Luigis Mansion, each boss had character and a backstory of how they died. In the new games they lack that. They arent interesting and it takes away the experience of who you're fighting.

It hurts me so much to see how they have changed Luigi’s mansion, I played it as a kid and I loved it so much cause I was so scared to play it! One thing I love the most is the music the soundtrack isn’t big because most of the game is filled with ambience and it’s TERRIFYING! I am still scared of the cut scene where Luigi opens the door, or when you walk around the mansion and it’s super silent and u hear stuff around u. It was perfect and nailed it all together! I wasn’t ever the biggest fan on the mechanic on how to catch the ghost, they fixed it in the newest one so it’s a bit easier to figure out but still. This is an excellent breakdown of why the first game was absolutely incredible. That noise the fat guy makes used to scare me shitless, and just about every aspect of the idea of “things that go bump in the night” and capture that fear of the unknown. The blackout is easily the greatest part of the game. Amazing to think we will probably never see anything like it again to be honest. Just like MM and the 3 day cycle. Something very unique but doesnt fit well with that broader market etc

They really should do another Luigi’s Mansion like the first game. Use the N64/GameCube era design for Luigi, keep it very dimly lit, bring back that dynamic dust effect, and bring the portrait ghosts back in the same capacity. Also, ditch the strobulb and bring back the pressure-sensitive vacuum.

I don't know if I would outright call Luigi's Mansion the scariest Nintendo game. Sure, it's got some creepy moments, but there are other Nintendo games out there that far outclass Luigi's Mansion in terms of horror. You have Majora's Mask, many installments in the Metroid series (especially Metroid Fusion and Metroid Prime 3... the GFS Valhalla in the latter was like something straight out of Dead Space), EarthBound (Giygas alone is horror territory)...
Not to mention the one horror game Nintendo actually DID make, Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. That game was TWISTED.

Also I have played all of them. The first didn't scare me because I played it in the morning all the time. The second scared me even though it isn't scary because I played it at nightime. The third was meh with lighting and was a good game but not scary. So Yup

So I don’t know much about the original game because I never got it nor got the 3DS remake but I did watch videos of it before knowing about Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon and buying it. But I went on a little field trip to Wiki and some TH-cam Let’s plays and I noticed that (everyone probably already knows but for those who don’t or don’t remember,) the paintings of people and the portrait ghosts are the same. BUT here’s what’s interesting to me. I don’t know if anybody ever had a idea who owned the Mansion besides King Boo but at the cutscene where Luigi is being threatened by the paintings after blowing away the purple candles but I thought the painting with the candles was the ghost at the library. But actually it’s the Artist Ghost. (Forgive me for not remembering the names or learned more about them from the Wiki) Not only that but almost everyone has a picture of themselves before being a ghost. Not to mention the funny descriptions of the ghosts I believe is how they died. Wether killed or simply dead or died due to a paranormal unknown reason like Sue (little ghost girl). I wondered if these ghosts used to live in the Mansion but here’s a problem. The Mansion itself was explained by E Gadd that a few days ago it appeared out of nowhere. So maybe the ghosts didn’t live in that mansion but was asked to help King Boo with his schemes? It kind of reminds me how the Boss Ghosts from Luigi’s Mansion 3 are set up. Not all of them obviously died in a hotel or did die in one. Like McFrights didn’t have a modern or a non vintage hotel back in medieval times. (If he’s a ghost from that time.) Getting back to Luigi’s Mansion, I wondered if the Artist Ghost is the leader of all the ghosts in the Mansion. This made me also wonder if he created all the portrait ghosts, because it would make sense if the Mansion that came out of nowhere needed Ghosts. Maybe King Boo created the Ghosts? Or maybe he just mind controlled them kind of like how he destroyed the Dark Moon in Luigi’s Mansion 2 in order to make the ghosts go berserk or like how in Luigi’s Mansion 3 the Gem from his crown shattered and the Ghosts now became friendly. His Red gem could maybe have made the Ghosts and Portrait Ghosts become dangerous? After doing some research of the original game (didn’t bother for the 3DS remake because it’s probably the same.) I knew That Luigi’s Mansion 3 had a lot of Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon elements but I never knew that it also had Original elements as well. For example there’s no level selection that way you doN’T hAVe To DEleTE THE SAVE FILE TO MAKE A NEW ONE IN ORDER TO REPLAY EVERYTHING AGAIN!!!! But at least the series is very cool! I also hope if they make a 4th game, they make levels just like Luigi’s Mansion 2. And of course make the scare scrapper single player if needed. On the Idea videos I wish I can give more ideas if I and we fans can do that but I can’t reveal all of them because we know there’s a thing called Art Theft. Yes I’m talking about you who steals ideas and other stuff you crooks. (Seriously it’s not a joke)

I feel like Dark moon and Luigi's Mansion 3 played it too safe when it came to creepy. Which is why I prefer the first game. The ghosts had a darker backstory to them. Also the dark rooms enhanced the scare factor with the ghosts. Having an uneasy feeling while getting through a level and combating ghosts made me feel like I achieved getting through something like that till the end as a kid.

From day 1 of development luigis mansion became less darker, it started as a sequel to sm64 and is now a game of its own.
That sequel was planned to be a more grown up version that’s dark, the current version of the sm64 sequel is is a very dark game that ends with a grave saying innocence, refencing the fact that at the time of the gamecube people wanted more mature games, like cod series. For ps2 and original Xbox

Fun fact, this is the only game in the series to be labelled as a horror game. I'm not kidding! When I go to wiki's most label it: Action & Adventure & Survival Horror, while the sequels are only Action and Adventure (Ok Luigi's Mansion wiki labelled Dark Moon as Horror but Wikipedia for example didn't include it like the first game). Of course the third game was only Action & Adventure on both wikis.

Hey theory idea, how does Paper Luigi know about Luigi's Mansion in Paper Mario N64? It wouldn't make sense, as the Paper Mario series obviously isn't in the Real Mushroom Kingdom. (Yknow, where the Mario Platformers happen, also the Mario and Luigi series) Speaking of the Mario and Luigi series, in Paper Jam, it is shown that the Paper Mario series exists within a Magic Book, and that same game (Paper Jam) is the first time that the PM Universe collides with the M&L Universe, as far as we know. So, with that said, how does Paper Luigi know about Luigi's Mansion in Paper Mario N64, before anyone could've possibly known about the Real World?

Question if anybody wants to do it for fun. Which is scarier? Luigi’s Mansion or Luigi’s Ghost House from Nintendo Land? Ok probably some arguments coming in just because everyone forgets that others can have their own opinion too but what makes the Luigi’s Mansion mini game in Nintendo Land scary is that the music, (well most of it is actually based off of Luigi’s Mansion 1 and not Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon) and the Ghost. Because that a player is controlling it, and if you’re a Luigi, you don’t know what will happen or comes up next even with the vibrations on the Wii remote to alert you a ghost is coming towards you.
