To be honest Anne Boleyn was not a good person I mean what she did to Queen Catherine was f***** up she didn't give a s*** about Catherine and married and how Catherine died of a broken heart and Mary was deprived of her mother I'm a firm believer in God sits high and looks down low on us and he would judge the just as well as the unjust. What happened to Queen Catherine was unjust but what happened to Ann was just she was not a good person at all did she deserve to be lied Ann and beheaded absolutely not Henry should have just divorced her and exiled her that would have been better I don't understand why you had to murder her. But Queen Elizabeth the first is one of my favorite Royal monarchs to be a woman that her time that she rained and she wasn't anybody is a verb and I feel like she was God's Revenge cuz God says ra vengeance is mine says the Lord so I think Queen Elizabeth was not like her mother nor like her father she was on her own person and really because of her mother and father she never got married and Mary suffered as well I mean Henry was a terrible person and in everything I blame him the most he

It’s so ironic how Henry wanted a boy so bad to give his dynasty the glory but it was the girl that looked just like him that was his greatest legacy. I have always admired Elizabeth to know a woman of her time that decided to not marry was unheard of especially for a ruler. She stood her ground and did it all without man. Makes me so proud to be a woman.

I don’t understand why Elizabeth gets a pass for her religious persecution. Elizabeth’s being this tolerant queen was an easy position to take when your advisors & agents of the crown are terrifying, torturing & executing catholics up & down the country until they went underground or fled the country. And clever enough to dress it up as some treasonous plot so it never came across as religious persecution. Cecil & walsingham saw catholic plots in everything. Look at the Ridolfi plot, case in point. So she either knew everything her advisors were up to but turned a blind eye or she really did have no idea & her advisors were actually running the country. I’m honestly not sure which one it is. We all know no one in her fathers council would’ve dared carried out a death warrant he wasn’t decided on (for example Mary Queen of Scots) without his express permission. If her advisors felt confident enough to do that, it brings a lot of things into question. She didn’t actually need the heart & stomach of a king if she never really dealt with the harder decisions?
The number of Catholics killed during her reign make her at least as deserving of the title ‘bloody’ as her predecessor - but of course it was the victorious Protestants not the Catholics who wrote the history declaring her as ‘Gloriana’.

She was unequaled in her intellect.

My favorite story about Elizabeth apparently occurred during her Coronation procession, when at Cheapside, she stopped the procession to take a posy of wildflowers from a Goodwife at the wayside. She thanked the woman, stood up holding the flowers, and told the crowd that she would rather be given English wildflowers than any other kind, because (like the flowers) she was their "mere English Queen!" The crowd went wild. Though she was no saint, throughout her reign Elizabeth meant to be a good monarch and her people knew it, which is why they called her Good Queen Bess.

    • @heyitssarah7545
      @heyitssarah7545 ปีที่แล้ว +10

Also part of the reason she’s called that is because they just got out of a period of Protestants being burned at the stake and the attempted restoration of Catholicism. Elizabeth’s reign was glorious *in comparison to Mary’s.* It wasn’t anything awesome in and of itself. By the end of her reign, people were actually ready for it to be over. They didn’t like having the same monarch for very long, and they had her for a *long* time. Plus, there were lots of issues by the end of her reign. Her whole thing wasn’t that she was super awesome, it’s that she was better than Mary, and she was better than Henry VIII was at the end. So for the first 1/2 of her reign, people were like, “YEAH, this is great!” Then, for the third quarter, they were moving onto, “Okay…I guess this is still happening.” Finally, it reached, “Alright, this really needs to end. It’s getting to be a bit much, honestly.”
(Sorry, I’m a historian, and I’ve studied extensively under a Tudor expert at my university. I’ve also taken several classes in early modern history, because the intersection of religion and politics throughout history is a sub-focus of mine. My main specialty is ancient history, oddly enough)

It's known that Mary Boleyn was a mistress to Henry VIII before and during her marriage, so anything's possible. Sir Henry did look a lot like Henry VIII, but his official father (Mary Boleyn's husband) was also Henry VIII's cousin, so the resemblance could be from that more distant relationship.

HM Queen Elizabeth I is Anne Boleyn’s greatest revenge. Ironic that HM King Henry VIII was hellbent on having a son that he would literally chop off Anne’s head because she gave birth to Elizabeth I, then years later Elizabeth is crowned & her rule would go down as one of the most successful reign’s in all of English & British history.
    Elizabeth would later say:
“Though the sex to which I belong is considered weak, you will, nevertheless, find me find me a rock that bends to no wind.” - HM Queen Elizabeth I of England
“I have the heart of a man, not a woman, & I am not afraid of anything.” - HM Queen Elizabeth I of England

That is not why Anne's head was chopped off. It was because she tried to sleep with her brother, and failed to deliver another boy who was born stillborn(which the king was warned not to stress the queen) and as always the King kept sleeping around dismissing the warnings of how toxic he was towards Anne, they both were guilty of adultery only one was punished for incest. She became Queen because her half-sister made Elizbeth her successor.

edward married a sister yielding the black prince who historians dubbed or labelled black prince cause of black armour he wore, darling racist experts cited. ain't easy attributing such a splendid english military victory in poitiers in 1356 to a brother you know. Oh, no, no Lordy!!

I'm an American of mixed blood too, and I am also fascinated by British royal history. (But not the modern royals.) I think it's because America is so young. We don't have anything like England's long and absorbing history. And we have never had monarchs, if we discount George III who was the colonial king...for a time.
Some of us have acquired the love that Brits have for their royals. Good or bad, the kings, queens, princes and princesses of England were glamorous! Elizabeth I was an amazing example. And this video was a great, brief roundup on her eventful life.

Im a paraguayan of french descent, this fixation has been called out on me as well but i have to say that it honestly is imposible for me not to acknowledge how exhilarating is the tudor story from beginning to end, its full of irony, malice, drama, grandiose people and a touch of misticism, so much so that i think it belongs on a George R.R. Martin book.

Asking me what I "think" of Elizabeth I is like asking me what I think of oxygen! She simply was what she was. Stupendous, enigmatic, grand, and very damaged. Most geniuses are damaged emotionally, and her childhood must have been a nightmare she could never wake up from. I think her life was hell, but she enjoyed the perks along the way.

E2 navigated through increasing public hate of royals wanting to completely abolish it yet her gentle demeanour & dedication to her country & duties as queen brought stability with the people viewing her as almost a grandmother figure which is an achievement when you look at the growing publics distain for our new King Charles I highly doubt he will have the same public grieving of millions coming to London to pay last respects at the queens funeral. She was the 1st princess to join military service in ww2 & helped revolutionise rights for women in many aspects throughout her reign that shouldn’t be downplayed. Her transformation of empire to common wealth keeping peaceful trade relations between former colonies was also great achievement. Ofc none of this was done alone in absolute power it was shared with parliament which she actually did have the authority to overrule if necessary. She was wise in never stating public opinions of politics ect & outlasted dozens of PMs. Her biggest contribution would be her charity work imo with her husband prince phillip like the princes’s trust helping the people with free apprenticeships & free education ect. E1 is the greatest English Monarch & E2 was good modern monarch.

I SHALL HAVE BUT ONE MISTRESS IN THIS HOUSEHOLD AND NO MASTER.
    My pen friend
the United Kingdom is one of the biggest fans of Queen Elizabeth so much so she Even officially had her name changed.
We write historical fiction about Queen Elizabeth together.
Even though my friend was such a fan she had never been to London being from Lancashire far in the north of England.
In 2015 I traveled to London on my way home from the Netherlands where my parents lived.
We spent a week going to her tomb in Westminster Abbey where she is interned on top of her sister Mary.
King James when he gained the throne from Elizabeth built an Elaborate chapel and tomb for his mother and had her entombed straight across from Queen Elizabeth I in Westminster
Queen Elizabeth I tomb is a masterpiece she lays as a young version of herself in an elaborate color made from marble but so lifelike it looks like real lace. Her entire tomb is so live-like it is like she could just get up.
We visited the tower where Elizabeth was imprisoned by her sister for months.
In the same chambers, her mother spent her last days.
I have visited the Tower many times and except the crown jewels, and the lineup of Henry VIII armor.
    Other exhibits change.
When we were there a wooden mask of a Young Queen Elizabeth was on display.
And in an eerie coincidence, it had a great likeness to my friend's face.
We took a picture of my friend next to the mask and the likeness was uncanny.
Sadly we did not have time to go to Hatfield.
And of course, white hall palace burnt down long ago
Except for the stables of the horse guards at certain times the stables can be visited by the public.
It is wonderful how much the U.k. keeps its history alive.

I once read that Elizabeth I after the defeat of the Spanish Armada,, when told that her soldiers and fighting sailors were left in their hundreds, if not thousands, wounded and desperately in need of help, she turned aside and dismissed them entirely, whilst taking all the glory for the Victory for herself. Aside from Cyrus the Great, I've honestly never read of a King or Queen really worthy of admiration and respect. Elizabeth II was Queen and an ideal figurehead, not an absolute ruler, so I cannot count her among those who like Elizabeth I were absolute rulers.

Back in my university years- we had this book in our library about her. About how she made herself sufficient and efficient- despite englands instability and lack in resources at that time. It fascinates me- how she made it through, despite her being considered as a feeble woman. For me, she's way more greater than any men monarchs at her time. The only monarch in the history, that gives me inspiration to always "stand with dignity in the midst of shaky grounds" both earned the moniker GREAT. ELIZABETH the GREAT and the prussian princess turned czarina CATHERINE the GREAT.

Fantastic video of brave and brilliant leader. One of the things I found very interesting was her use of a smaller government in order to fix the economy. People today need to understand this is the right message.

Although I deeply miss my Queen the trials and tribulations Queen Elizabeth the 1st at that time must make her a truly wonderful Queen of England. I'm English first - British second.

That final question, "Is Elizabeth I England's greatest queen?" is extremely patronizing. The real question is whether she was England's greatest monarch.

    • @PeopleProfiles
      @PeopleProfiles  3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

Considering we have said Edward III was the greatest King, we fail to see how saying Elizabeth was the greatest queen could be patronising.

She was a great English monarch, top 3 for sure in my opinion, but the best was Alfred. Without him, the idea of a united England wouldn't exist.
