I've had to replace this twice now. A little trick I did to make it even easier/faster is to just bend a wire coat hanger, make a hook at one end. Shove that through the the trunk side of the hole, hook the loop onto the coat hanger hook and pull it right through. This job is already easy, but that just makes it even easier/faster. Great vid!
i bought it from walmart and shipping was free..total was 35$ and it took some 10 days to receive it.. thanks for the video.. it helped me to install the actuator...
I thought this was my trunk lock or something else went wrong in the car but I followed the sound and now I just wanted to know how to replace the thing glad it's an easy fix though and you did a really great job with the video 💚👍thanks a ton
Thank you so much! I didn't have a similar tool to pull the white wire through the hole so used some copper wire by looping the two together and pulling the copper wire bringing the white with it. Something this simple wasn't worth taking it to the dealer.
As with everyone who commented here, you're AWESOME for sharing the video. Where I'm at, the part is $82 plus tax. I don't even want to know how much the dealer would charge to install and I have no intention of finding out. Thanks bud!!!
My dude! Thank you so much! Canadian over here had the latch get noisy today so I knew what it was but this shows exactly what I need to do to fix it. Thank you so much!!!
Thanks for the video bro. My daughters 2017 has that exact problem and I have the part in hand and will proceed to replace it. Wish me luck. Heard the repair shops are charging $300-500 to replace it.
Super helpful video! just changed mine 10 minutes ago with the help of this video! I got mine from Honda Auto Parts Warehouse, but like he said, definitely shop around for the best prices.
@ContinentalMasters mine was about $35.80, but it may vary by model (mine is 2018 Hatch Sport). Also, when threading the rubber loop through the hole inside the molding, I used a long zip-tie to feed it through.
Mine doesn't want to latch and I took it to a shop ... they said it would be $215 for ordering the part and labor 😭 ... thank you for the video! I really hope this fixes my problem
My actuator was still working but I still had problems several times during freezing weather. The part was 67$ CAD at my local Honda dealer and the job took me about 10 min to complete. I taped a small rigid electrical cable to the release cable on the new part and fished it through the hole in the trunk and I put the grommet in place.
Youre a life saver dude. But i already took it to dealer and they will do it themself. At the very least i already know how it is and how to fix it thanks to you
I want to thank you for saving me from the dealership raping me... they wanted $47 for the actuator & $200 to install... I told them they were nuts & I’d do it myself. I don’t mind a place making profit but $200 to just have thumbs & a flathead screwdriver is nuts.
No idea how you got the lil cord through the hole, it was impossible for me to do it by myself and I was using a hook tool as well lol. I ended tying some twine around the loop and I had my mom tie a knot around the hook so I could kind of snake it through the hole from the trunk. Wasn’t able to get the rubber piece through but it still works fine regardless.
@@p-rod88 Lol, same here, it is embarrassing, people look at me weird, like I do it on purpose or something. I will look into buying the part and do it my self. a while back, someone drove to close and broke my driver side mirror, too much money to fix at dealer, so I bought the parts and after a couple of TH-cam videos, went and did it and works fine. Stay safe, have a great Sunday.
I have the same problem with my 2016 Honda Civic. It’s so loud and embarrassing. And plus my car locks when it wants to or when I stop and then go it’ll lock and make that loud noise everytime

So I took my car to the shop to get something fix and lietrally a day or two later this part of the car started acting up making a buzz noise . I’m trynna figure out if maybe they did something to it
Hello I was watching your video. I had a few questions. How did you pop the side clips back on. And what size length is the pick tool you used or where to purchase them? Thank you
I'm trying to find the actuator for my 2018 Civic Si coupe, some websites say the part number in this videos description 74700-TGG-A02 is for my car, but other websites say this part number will not work in my car, and that I should instead buy 74700-TBA-A02. Anyone know which I need for the 2-door 2018 Si?

Good video. I found it easier to pull the cable using a zip tie. Also a good idea to put some silicon crease on the rubber grommet.

Thank soo much sir, you video helped me fix mine
Thank you so much for this helpful video!!!! Is this the correct piece for all civic models? Mine is also 2017 but just the basic one not type r
Yes. The part number says it will fit all 5 door body styles.(hatchbacks)
Thanks so much for the video! I just googled the part and it says it’s discontinued…do you know if the new part could be 74700-TBA-A02?
Yes that will work.

2020 Honda Civic started doing this after I took it to do an oil change. Gas door was buzzing
Hello! Whats the name of that tool? I have this same problem
Thanks for the great video!
As a commenter suggested, use a zip tie. Or to pop it out use a flat head screwdriver
@@typerledsfk8190 we used a zip tie, fixed this on my honda the other day by watching your video. Thanks!
When switching from Parking to Drive or Reverse, does it have to make the sound or sound like it is 'locked'?

That same part is also for the 2018 Honda Civic EX ?
Will this work a 2016 civic?

You may have received a defective unit. Return/exchange it.
Do you have the link to where you bought it?
What do you do with the white piece that went through? Just hangs?
Sorry, this actuator have a fuse?
That doesn’t explain why does it always make noise but thank you

Hey,
Would this work for my 2016 Honda Civic EX-T?
Does this replacement video also apply to a 2016 Honda Civic ex-t model?
Most likely. The part number may be different.
Do you know what to do when the noise keeps going after replacing it with a new actuator?
Could be a defective actuator.
@@typerledsfk8190 so should i return the actuator and ask for a new one?
Hello I was watching your video. I had a few questions. How did you pop the side clips back on. And what size length is the pick tool you used or where to purchase them? Thank you
I was wondering the same thing but all you honestly do is push it inside and it some how goes back into place on its own.
Hey man, so how do I get the new part, do I go to the dealership and ask them to order it for me? Or will they already have it?
So, this issue means the gas tank door isn’t locking?

No it won’t
Is it the same for an Si???
Possibly. Check the part number and see if it fits the Si.
Just checked it’s different. I’m tired of hearing that noise on my car lol. When going out to places that noise scares people lol.
Haha same! The replacment may be the same process since the 10th gens are very similar.

I bought on Amazon and it was only good for 2 weeks . Then back to annoying farting sounds .
