    Better off investigating why tugs were dismissed by the pilots 20 minutes before the ship ever got to the bridge.

    • @sacred_g
      @sacred_g หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You don't even need an investigation. I can answer that. Under normal conditions, the tugs are dismissed by the pilots so that the ship can pick up speed. Tugs do not go very fast, and are at considerable risk of literally being "tugged over" and capsized by a ship they are supposed to be tugging if it out runs them.

Whatever flag the ship sailed under, prepare that country to appear in court. Besides the lives lost, Americans are going to have to deal with traffic, inconvenience, increased time on the road for labor unforeseen and incalculable expenses. Make an example...just for the heck of it. Flex and make other governments sweat. We're gonna sweat. If my bull gets loose in your China shop, are you going to be content with my simple apology? This is a major port. Demand the respect that that carries. Throw a tantrum. Just for the heck of it. Seize assets or land, this is going to have an enormous price tag. The lose of power didn't cause this it was the very deliberate alterration in the course from the main channel at the exact time to cause the collision. If the dramatic change in course hadn't happened the Dali would have proceeded in a much more straight line and miss the bridge support. The crews reasoning is beyond comprehension

      @misledprops wrong both times I served in the uscg in the 80s in the chessapeak area. The shop was in the main channel and under control before power was lost. The rudder would have been amidship all ready. As is was a straight shot under the bridge and fir many miles afterwards. Ships that big that long and that heavy don't react very quickly. Once power was lost the helm wouldn't just change like it did. With out alot of help.

    They should check the bridge as well. It was built 50 years ago when world trade was not as high in volumes as now and thus very heavy weight ships pass daily. Our engineers know the problems in every bridge in this country. The President should write checks for fixing these bridges. Otherwise, the costs will be extremely high on people, the economy, productivity and prices.
