Because no one wants to pay for infrastructure until it is too late. Putting bollards around it would have cost millions of dollars and people would have complained about wasted tax dollars.

It is (was) a single truss bridge. They have basically one supporting cable running through the whole bridge. Single trusses are much cheaper to build but if any part of the cable breaks the whole bridge goes down.

    BALTIMORE TEARS = 2024 !!
Tears are the raindrops of the soul
And there's one for all who die.
They are the silent words of grief
As they fall free from the eye.
The shortest verse in the Bible
Is the one where Jesus wept
So, if you hold back tears, shed them
When your pain is too harsh to accept.
Tears are lovelier than a smile
When they come from those you love
As they seek relief from sadness
    When you're summoned from above.
Tears are a love-mates humble gift
When it's time to say goodbye
Though the eyes are wet and swollen
With time and patience they dry.

Yes part of the reason Biden admin doesn’t want to put blame on the shipping company is because making them pay for it would put checks and balances on the project. If Biden can force American taxpayers to pay for it, it becomes much easier to inflate the cost and hire firms they are friendly with (donors)

When a ship of this size loses power, the rudder automatically goes to a neutral position!!! With a loss of power, no commands are sent to the rudder power, and it goes to neutral. When power is restored, the rudder will NOT get a command to do anything but remain at neutral until told to do so by the man at the wheel!!!!!!!! He was headed right for "the keyhole", and out to sea. This ship supposedly loses power and makes a "hard to port" turn, which means to turn to the opposite: a right hand turn!!! THIS SIMPLY DOES NOT ADD UP!!!! That ship intentionally steered right into the pylon!!!!! ACCIDENT MY A$$!!!

Also the view of the bridge built from a low surface of land the incline was odd like it wasn't started further in and too close on the edge without a wider base or support.
