I was having the opposite issue, for me it was 7th gear that was not quite working unless I held the shifter in that position. Since your problem was with REVERSE, I figured would loosen the nuts and slide that part the opposite direction. SO, doing that made everything worse! I went with your idea and slid that part the same direction you suggested. Now it works great!! Thanks for posting this!!

Yes, this helps allot. I just bought an RX-73, but I assume it's the same as an RX-75. Don't know what the difference is.

I just bought an RX-73 and need to replace the metal "V" pulley on top of the transmission. Do you know how to remove the pulley without having to remove the transmission?
