Fun fact, In the entire anime, this scene is the only time where we can hear Killua's footsteps. He was so focused on getting to Gon he didn't bother to silence his footsteps for the very first time.
He basically made a nen deal/restriction just like Kurapika did to strengthen his chains against the spiders, except the deal was much more severe in Gon's case where he sacrificed all his nen and whatever he learned to become a temporary monster. In HxH, nen users can often strengthen their abilities with restrictions but the greater the restriction, the greater the power. It's a double edged sword. Also what Pitou used to attack Gon after he killed her is known as "Nen after death" which is nen that can be directed at the enemy in any way after death if the user feels immense hatred towards that person and in Pitou's case, she's so worried about Gon killing the king/Meruem that "Nen after death" was enabled. The writing in this arc is so beautiful, Togashi shows that Light (Gon) and Dark (Meruem) switch positions and it's amazing. Meruem starts caring for life and starts loving while Gon goes insane and loses his humanity to become a monster.
@Allassan Sankara that is old manga/anime trope. Gon is done. having some actual consequences and people still try to find ass pulls to come in and "invigorate" the story.
There is a video here on youtube of children activists in Oaxaca a long time ago and they were interviewing an 9 year old who is the target of the police, and the military when they attempted to rape his sister who was 7 but the parents died saving her from that. and joined the city in an all out war in that city, and during his interview a reporter asks aren't you scared they will kill you? he simply says "Que pase lo que tiene que pasar" it translate to "let what needs to happen, happen" hearing it from a child was one of the craziest thing ever.
Pitou was selfless like literally, she was bouta get clapped and all she thought about was king's safety. Her resolve and devotion to king were so strong she literally came back to life just to make sure Gon wouldn't pose danger for Meruem.
Mo Jolt yea he would’ve but my whole thing was everyone was assigned a target in pairs and Gon was the only one to fight his target alone (he won) but still he sacrificed everything for revenge (life, friendship, etc.).

“This the type of show to kill off Gon and keep going” LMAOOOOO the fact that that’s so true. If there was any show to take off a main character, I’d be this and AOT
This transformation is basically the culmination of gon’s character throughout the entire show. In earlier arcs and throughout this one, gon has been seen to make very childlike, immature decisions based on a juvenile sense of morality. Many characters such as zepile, wing, bisky, etc. have called into question how simple minded he is and how gon doesn’t care about right and wrong, but moreso what is important to him (like a child). Togashi purposely made this aspect of his character stand out in the very ADULT ruthless world of hxh. In this arc, we see gon descend into morbid madness, yet he still remains a childlike hope that kite is still alive. When all of this is crushed at pitou’s revelation of kite’s death, gon loses that childlike innocent thinking, hence that ADULT GON transformation. EDIT: yes I understand the surface-level nen condition gon put on himself. I’m talking about the metaphorical depth behind this transformation.
Are you sure thats the explnation? I always thought that it wass clear he used the pact, like Kurapika. In terms of losing his Nen forever he could transform into something he would look like ,when he would have practiced for decades, like Killiua said.
Dude no, he just made a deal with nen. Condition and limitation "If you give me the power to kill pitou (limitation, choosing one specific purpose) I'll give up my nen (Basically his life, without nen no organism can exist. It's also the condition, his life for more power). Besides, this kind of power wouldn't be possible in other nen users, since gon just got the power that he could had had if would have developed his maximum potential, he was destined to have that power, that' s why he became an adult. If you want to give him some meaning that's completely ok, I personally think is genius the depth of the power up, but this wouldn't have been as good as it was without the proper link of this power up with nen's rules. First coherence, then meaning, that's why it's so freaking genius.
@@ey.9329 he did make a pact similar to kurapika but it wasn't to transform or anything like that. It was this "I want the power to kill pitou, whatever that costs i'll pay it". He only transformed because his small body couldn't handle all that power, so it matured his body to the point that it could.
Employee of the Month Pitou: "Now I know he smashed my head like a melon on the freeway after I forced him to use so much power that there's a 80% chance he's crippled for life after this BUT I think I can get that up to 100%" *Rises from the dead to force Gun to use more energy*
I've watched a lot of reactions to HxH, and I'm surprised you of all people, didn't catch how Pitou was able to fight after being decapitated, considering you were one of very few, if only person to focus in on what Phinks said at the end of the York New City ark, but this episode is so insane, I could see it slipping past you. As always, top tier reaction my guy
So for some explanation on some of all this shit that just happened. 1: what Gon did was to use his nen to force his body to evolve to a point where he could beat Pitou. Problem is, that is gonna have a MASSIVE consequence that we yet don’t know what is exactly yet. 2: Pitou was already dead as her head had been smashed, but her nen got that death power up and controlled her dead body as a puppet.
I like how you did a JoJo intro change up for an important episode like when DIO stopped time in the intro. you should do that for a lot more very important episodes.
Through the entire anime it's said that Gon can be a "monster", and this is it. What he does here is a vow/restriction "I don't care if this is the end, so I will use everything" He is trading everything (his potential, his life and nen) in exchange for the enough aura to defeat Pitou. Because it's too much aura for his "child body" his body also matures to an age that can actually take the amount of aura he is gaining.
several things he sacrificed anything he could , not to fight but to MURDER pitou. gon doesn't know nen restriction, he just left it to nen and it took everything. another thing is that nen slows your age. he might look thirty but were don't know whats his actual age is, he might be 80 for all we know. in his low self worth state that he were, his life doesn't actually mean that much to him, so nen took EVERYTHInG this boy had to offer,
Bro, I just found your channel with this video, and it's possibly the best way to get into your reactions, when I see people react to HxH, THIS episode is what brought everything down for me! I watched it for the first time at the start of this year, I ended up binge watching it in 4 days, I saw 130 before work and then the whole day was a mess in excitement! By far the best anime series! Can't wait to see more!
I watch a lot of reaction channels, and i gotta say you guys are probably my favorites, the little edits thrown in the middle to comedic effect are fantastic and the way roshi reacts to HxH giving some thought to a series that deserves is great to see
The universal reaction to this episode is usually, "Here's the fight we've been waiting for!" near the beginning, and then, "NOT LIKE THIS!" by the end.
When pitou attacked gon during his transformation I really wished he dragged her by the face all the way to the exit and then said that he didn't want to destroy the place
i remember crying watching this fight, probably the only time i couldn't find any happiness watching a protagonist exceed themself and destroy their enemy, it will never be a satisfying fight..
If you look into it, Gon and Meruem's journey and character development mirrored each other beautifully. That is one of the best anime moment I've ever seen.
everytime I rewatch the series, this is the episode I look forward to. It is akin to the end of FMA:Brotherhood. Giving up all your power forever for one miracle.
Kite taught Gon to go for the head in their encounter together. So, he kinda just kept putting full power Jajanken blasts on Pitou's dome, and only her dome, for a while. His nen potential was always said to be incredibly high. What he did was sacrifice all of that for the power to kill Pitou. Pitou was worried about him going after the King, but he literally didn't care about anything but killing Pitou right then and there. One of Pitou's Nen abilities was to control things with her nen marionette. The same marionette could be used to increase her physical abilities significantly. Since she was worried about Gon killing the King, her ability took over her dead corpse and tried to go for Gon, taking his arm. What a lot of people believe, however, is that Gon intentionally allowed her to take it, since she'd taken Kite's arm in the first encounter.
Nen is like DnD in a way, a player(character) presents a scenario(ability) to the DM(author) and then the DM(author) tells the player(character) what they will have to do in order to accomplish their goal such as rolling a high enough number(clearing certain conditions) and then applying certain consequences if those conditions aren't met equivalent to how risky the scenario(ability) was.
Basically Gon setup a similar situation as Kirapika, Basically aging his body to a point where he would have the strength to destroy her, but at the expense of never using Nen again or surviving the wear on his body... that’s why he said he didn’t care if he lived or died
I would've LOVED to see a fight scene between Adult Gon, and King. But it happening right after Komugi dies. Them, both with nothing to lose, and total absolute control over the rage. It would've been so epic, no budget could have covered it lmao
I like how for this scene that they didn't use "oh yeah there's this monster inside this positive good guy" trope. The anime shows that this is really Gon and this is what he wants to become.
Yo my G he said it himself. He used EVERYTHING. Hes shaved years off his life yes, ya know how many? ALL OF THEM. He used all of his potential and life energy and sacrificed it all for that power. The aftermath is... bad.
Every reaction to this episode is always about Gon. Nobody talks about how sad and brutal Pitou's death is. I think that's what makes this episode way more harrowing for me than just the tragedy involving Gon.
I will always hate when people get confused at him being able to hurt the king without giving it a chance to explain lmao. Gons transformation is a lovely give and take situation
This is the best depiction of utter dispair in an anime. They show him in denial, rage acceptance and then hopeless. To the point killing hills if need be…
Also an explanation. Essentially, Gon put a limitation on himself that'd he'd give up his life in exchange for getting powerful to defeat Pitou. This power manifested in Gon being aged to pretty much the peak of all the power Gon could ever have, in exchange for his life.
i doubt that this was the "peak" of his power, he only wanted the strength to defeat Pitou. I guess someone like Gon could get close to someone like Netero if he would train for several decades.
Joel J I’ve heard this before too. Pitou said that he had become strong enough to beat her, which I think is cool because it leaves the possibility open for him to be stronger than that.
@@joelj1774 I'm pretty sure it was said (correct me if i'm wrong) that was all the power Gon could ever have, so it was pretty much the peak of his power.
@@constenanto4590 IIRC the narrator says that it consumes all of his potential so i would guess that would be peak Gon? But he also rivaled Meruem in power so he may already be stronger than Netero no?
The part where Gon says "It's time for you to sleep, too" right before he explodes Pitou always stuck with me. Seems like he has some sympathy for her situation after all.
HxH fights are my favorite only thing i could complain about is the lack of them. They can be brutal very strategic hype and fast. The inner thoughts of the ones fighting just beatiful
Seriously, i love this anime, just love seeing other people react to it and comment on this masterpiece. I have nothing to complain on this anime, it tackled the power system comprehensively, it played with our emotions, not everything is black and white, people who are cheerful and naive can succumb to despair. And this shows everything has a price, power does not come naturally, others maybe talented compared to other characters but to attain godlike status, they endured or traded their life, plus it used a complex system to explain power levels that simple will power does not equate to you easily winning, it employs heavy ass strategies at the expense of prolonging an episode which I will never complain. To you who read up to this point, have a good day!
I love watching others react to this episode for the first time, cause it reminds me of how I felt the first time I watched it. Honestly one of the greatest episodes in all of anime period
The illest anime transformation of all time only lasts and episode and a half and it takes the entire series to get there but it’s honestly so worth it

I like how for this scene that they didn't use "oh yeah there's this monster inside this positive good guy" trope. The anime shows that this is really Gon and this is what he wants to become.
the “noooo noooo” at 10:21 sendsss same though
Yo my G he said it himself. He used EVERYTHING. Hes shaved years off his life yes, ya know how many? ALL OF THEM. He used all of his potential and life energy and sacrificed it all for that power. The aftermath is... bad.
NLG Armdevil, like... so bad.
DONT let this distract you from the fact that bungee gum has the properties of both rubber and gum!
Every reaction to this episode is always about Gon. Nobody talks about how sad and brutal Pitou's death is. I think that's what makes this episode way more harrowing for me than just the tragedy involving Gon.
This was Gon's SSJ2 Gohan moment.
Bro I don't think ya'll get enough credit for the quality, that intro switch up was fire, edits always fire
I truly WISH whole gang watched this legendary episode together.
I will always hate when people get confused at him being able to hurt the king without giving it a chance to explain lmao. Gons transformation is a lovely give and take situation
This is the best depiction of utter dispair in an anime. They show him in denial, rage acceptance and then hopeless. To the point killing hills if need be…
I love how 131 is sort of a main event for hxh reactors.
This is the one and only time we hear killua footstep ( when he jump to push gon )
But he also rivaled Meruem in power so he may already be stronger than Netero no?
you the goat for posting this so quick man, respect
The part where Gon says "It's time for you to sleep, too" right before he explodes Pitou always stuck with me. Seems like he has some sympathy for her situation after all.
It was so hard to not wait for this episode!! AHHH I'm happy you got to see this one and see your reaction!!
We finally here boys. Since day one we have waited and now we are rewarded. That intro edit was FIREEE. Gon really said this isn’t even my final form.
That intro edit was CLEAN
You know you've lost when the little kid turns into escanor
10:35 "So...Gon has some power that clearly have shaved his life off of his life." FTFY
HxH fights are my favorite only thing i could complain about is the lack of them. They can be brutal very strategic hype and fast. The inner thoughts of the ones fighting just beatiful
Remember he said he doesn't care if it's the end? He didn't use "some time" he exchanged his entire future for power.
ITS TIME, I WAS WAITING SO LONG FOR YOU TO GET HERE MAN I LOVE YOUR REACTIONS
Haven't watch HxH but i just love this moment, the animation, the music/OST, f****** chills everytime
To you who read up to this point, have a good day!
pitou: he's already dead
gon: no you are
This editing is EVERYTHING 🔥 This remix intro gives me chills everytime.
YOU JUST WITNESSED THE BEST EPISODE IN HXH
ALSO ONE OF THE BEST RAGES IN ANIME HISTORY
Fax
hunter will always be my favorite anime hopefully we can see more come out soon
his nen grew to be on par with meruem which is insane, but nen battles arent decided with raw power alone, so he probably wouldnt have beaten the king
Gon (an enhancer) enhanced his physical strength and Aura for the condition that he will never use nen again, it's pretty simple.
12:43 roshi with the famous "that's rough buddy"
I love watching others react to this episode for the first time, cause it reminds me of how I felt the first time I watched it. Honestly one of the greatest episodes in all of anime period
This moment always got me, i never bored to watch this
The illest anime transformation of all time only lasts and episode and a half and it takes the entire series to get there but it’s honestly so worth it
Gon's emotional decision to give up everything to do this is just straight up sad. Nothing positive about it, not courageus.. just fucking sad :(
