Pitou doesn't know who "Kite" is. She didn't know his name when she killed him.
To her, Gon just wants her to come along and heal some person he cares about, she doesn't know who.
Yeah...
Even if Pitou did know, they would still have made the promise. Meruem is counting on them to heal Komugi, meaning that _that_ is their primary goal, not fulfilling promises. Pitou would gladly decide to take the fall later if it meant they could continue healing Komugi at that moment. So ultimately it doesn't matter... but you are correct, and I do feel that it adds an ironic emotional weight to the moment since it allows Pitou to both be completely sincere and completely unable to fulfil the request, which I think demonstrates their conviction better than just one or the other.

Bro I felt your emotion during gons rage.
So many people mess up this interaction by assuming that Pitou even knows who Gon is. She has no reason to remember the face or name of humans she kills. Also, she never once heard Kite's name spoken when she fought him. The narrator even says that she wasn't listening to a single thing that Gon said, she was only focused on the threat that he posed to Komugi in that moment, and agreed to his request because it was the only way to safely heal Komugi and fulfill the king's request.

The additional subtext to Gon asking "What is it you must save?" comes through in Pitou's face. He wants to know so he can do the same thing to her that she did to him, taking away something she wants to protect. He wants to hurt her, emotionally, physically, whatever he can manage.

The Voice Acting in Gon's Character in Episode 116 Top Tier
Roshi, love the videos and content. And love your perspectives and takes but one thing to keep in mind on your point about Gon and killua looking at the bigger picture. You have to keep In mind these are 12 year old children dealing with this. Your thinking about it from a grown mans perspective who has already had his fair share of life experiences and wisedom to go about the situation at hand. They have not. Simple as that. These are children dealing with situations so real and cerebral that most adults would wither away(Knov) so in that context it’s even more of a difficult and tough situation that really has no correct response/answer. The bigger picture means nothing when your 12 and you just experienced your first close to home death by a creature that not only is willing to heal and save another life but surrender as well. Gons mind is slipping away because he’s just a child being forced to deal with something WELL beyond his years.
PS. His idea of the world was extremely Black and white before the death of kite. (There’s actually been hints throughout the show to prove this) this situation forced Gon to see how utterly Grey the world is and he not only won’t accept it.. he can’t.
Jason Charles I agree, Gon is actually like a greedy kid when you look into it. He only fights for things he cares about which in this case is kite. Not the millions of people in danger or even the dying girl right in front of him. Good analysis.

Komugi is a innocent girl so it’s hard to just let her die but I do get the side of pitou being too dangerous but to be fair gon didn’t think she was dangerous to him.
Yeah the voice acting, music, and tension I felt in this episode was insane. But what hit me most was seeing my boy Killua in pain when Gon said those hurtful things to him. I think Killua’s love towards Gon is beyond friendship and bromance. I remember crying too 😢💔

the subber called Pitou "it" because it's not quite sure if Pitou is male or female. Pitou uses the word "boku" when she addresses herself, which is a word that usually young, shy boys use. Also in the manga Pitou didn't have tits. It's kinda wishy washy but in the anime it seems more likely that Pitou is a wamen
