      @@amazin7006 I do like the fact that the plane has its own retractable gear so leaving the water to go up the ramp to the hangar doesn’t involve a crew wading out to attach wheels to it.

    I am proud that our country's flying boats have received such high praise from people overseas.
    On the other hand, ShinMaywa is facing the risk of collapsing its production line due to the extremely low number of orders.
    This is because orders are limited to the Japan Self-Defense Forces and become more expensive, which suppresses the number of orders, and related companies that can no longer handle the situation withdraw, creating a vicious cycle in which prices become even more expensive.
    If any good advice from Japan's partner countries, please help us.

    The Shin Mae Wa fills several roles. Maritime patrol,Search and Rescue, fisheries patrol,firefighting. I wish the US would adopt them for this role. We need a single,capable airframe. This is better suited to the task than the C-130J, I believe.

      US Aviation defense contractors can easily make these. Aircraft carriers and the availability of runways globally available for the American military made these obsolete under current operating conditions. I am sure if war breaks out and the US loses their global runways as well as lose a couple of Carriers then manufactures will just start churning these out again.

    • @pbdye1607
      @pbdye1607 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This is true, but unfortunately I think what's holding it up is that there's no votes to be bought from buying this, which is why we're instead considering putting stupidly huge pontoons on the C-130J which will place its center of gravity somewhere just shy of cruising altitude, which will likely make being on water extremely uncomfortable for the crew and passengers. Hope they pack a lot of barf bags.

    The US2 isn't a new airplane. It's been used by the Japanese for over ten years. Should the US get some? Definitely. The US is overly reliant on helicopters, which can't fly very far. Considering the distances that are needed to fly over the Pacific, it only makes sense to have an aircraft that can do so.

    • @stunick1573
      @stunick1573 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @@drgeoffangel5422 That isn't the issue as with all US military procurement there had to be two or more proposals. So a C-130 float plane has been added to the "Shopping list" of proposals and the US Navy has to wait for the demonstrator float C-130 to get built. Yeah I know but that's how the system works. The US2 is off the self ready and factory could simply ramp up production. There are also features not needed that could bring costs down, The water tanker is not needed by the Navy. Other things, the US Navy is looking for S.E.A.L. deployment aircraft which is a simpler load out.

    I could see these seaplanes being VERY useful in Coast Guard roles. Not only search but actually being able to perform rescues without having to wait for another asset to provide pickup. I know they wouldn't be able to land in every situation. But, it would still be possible in some situations that it is not currently. Also not every rescue at sea is a high stakes OMG the ship is sinking waves crashing over the decks incident. Sometimes its a this guy's having a medical issue and we need a medi-vac 150 miles out. And YES the sea that far out can be smooth enough for one of these to land. Been there. Seen it. Got the Pension for 20 years out doing that.

    I think that all of the commercial Airplanes should be able to land in water and land just incase they ever need to make a landing safely when they are traveling overseas and it would save a lot of lives because since planes been around and more than half of the plane crashes over the years get lost at sea when they go down so they should start making the new commercial Airplanes for land and sea just like this amazing planes that Japan has come out with this thing is insane.

    In WWII, the Japanese had submarines with aeroplane inside the submarine. You will be surprised where the plane comes from.

    Awesome! I *love* flying-boats!
    This aircraft would probably make an excellent platform for anti-submarine warfare, dropping off sonobuoys and torpedoes - both of which it could carry a truckload of.

    I did not know that a large scale sea plane still existed, let alone a modern one. I'm glad that Japan has refined seaplane technology. That 1300 horsepower compressor for boundary layer control is an impressive advancement. Looking into it's history, the US-2 is not 'brand new'. The first 'production' US-2 was built in 2009. But very few have been built. Japan only had 6 in 2018. It's unclear if any have been produced since. The U.S. Navy, Marines and Coast Guard could each use some of these.

    Kawanishi Aircraft = After the war: ShinMaywa Industries = Amphibians were also produced by Kawanishi Aircraft. My grandfather was called back from the southern front to produce the Shiden Kai, and he was involved in the production of the Shiden Kai until the end of the war.

    It’s very cool but remember seaplanes can’t land in higher sea states. Whereas an MV-22 can hover. It could still deploy rescue divers and a raft.
    Its range is barely 1/3 of the US-2 but the MV-22 could be aerial refueled. It also carries 4 more people than the US-2.

      Correct because it's the same company that made it, although they kept the H8K airframe and then attached C-130J AE2100S to it. If the Europeans want to get back to the flying boat, Market the solution is this restart production of Short Sunderland BV-238 BV-222 Wiking the engines will need to come from A400M

    If you want an efficient, reliable, long range, flying boat you really need to see what Japan has to offer. Literally a century of being on the leading edge of the tech. Sadly, I'd be surprised if my current government showed the good sense to purchase these.

    In the late 90s the Navy funded a design study to convert C-130 to float planes. It was a quick change kit that would attach floats like you see on float planed and another design that looked like a pumpkin seed. They would be attached at the landing gear with the normal wheels removed. It got as far as scale model testing and looked promising. It was determined that the Navy’s C-130s didn’t have the power needed and at the time they had no plans to buy the then new J model which had ~25% more takeoff power. Recently the Air Force has shown an interest in revising the program and they have the J model planes that would work. All the development work is done.
    I’m sure the interest in the US-2 is to just get an idea how they’re operated but not to buy them from the Japanese. We don’t do that.
