This was a failed up cycling project that I got off Facebook Marketplace and did my best to make it look as good as when it was new.
Enjoy

I wonder if a local history museum would or could use the social security card. I've always found bits of history like that interesting! Lovely restoration as always. 💜
The transition was impressive. In the be3ginning I wondered if it was different pieces cobbled together. By the end it made sense. And the color choices really worked. Nice piece. Love to see old things made beautiful and saved. Glad Rufus hasn't fallen down on his supervisory obligations.....
Thank you and yes, only supervising, no work whatsoever 😂
Rufus is no dummy!
You don't only repair beautiful furniture, you resurrect it! Amazing results!
The next project is "Cats of Flippingdrawers" Calendar -- Rufus and company lounging around looking nonchalant and cute on all your gorgeous restorations!
I swear, Jay. I honestly didn’t think you could turn it around. I should absolutely know better by now. You NAILED it!! Beautiful work, as always!!
I love watching the small repairs. It's art.
Very fine craftsmanship, NOT art. "Art" means something else. I DO AGREE that he is one of the finest.
Artistic craftsmanship
@@jenn976I think you put it best. He doesn't just store furniture, he breathes life into each piece.🇦🇺😊❤️
The restoration of the exterior is stunning and you did a perfect job making it beautiful. Equally impressive is the detailed attention you give to the interior, underside, and back of each piece. The total restoration/refinish is beautiful.
Excellent restoration!! Doing a Google image search on this beautiful piece took me to an exact match for sale on Cherish. It appears to have had a small hutch with sliding glass doors that sat on top. As far as the mystery wood under veneer, molded plywood was often used to create the curves on the industrial mass produced furniture called Streamline Modern that emerged from the more labor intensive Art Deco style in the mid 1930s, which I believe this piece is representative of. 😻
Thank you. I would have continued wondering. I don’t have the patience…….. lol
I would love to see the link to the piece on “Cherish.” What a lovely piece! Subbed.
Art Deco? More like Art Crapo.
This is such a beautiful restoration. The repairs, in my opinion, make it look more authentic. After all, the average owner wouldn’t replace the entire veneer, either. I liked watching the laser, too.
The refurbished hardware is simply gorgeous, and it looks great. You made an excellent choice with the stain and oil, and the drawers and interior are beautiful. That restore a finish stuff is pretty nifty, and I always love the results you get with the feed & wax.
Thank you very much!💛

Not everything old is trash. This proves it . Turned out very nice!
I love Art Deco and absolutely love this beautiful piece of furniture, slight imperfections and all.
You brought out the natural beauty of the wood. This finish is even better than the original. Well done.
I love that you are willing to put so much work into the repairs to bring these pieces back to the original beauty. Great job on this one.❤❤😊
Thank you very much!
WOW!! The transformation is unbelievable! Just an awesome job!!
Thank you so much!
It's an amazing transformation! 😍
I love your work, and I want to let you know your little break announcements.. 2000 years later.. crack me up every single time! I enjoy your channel more than many of the others, just you explaining as you go along in my opinion is much better than just silence with machine sounds.
There’s no doubt about it. You’re a magician, Karel! ❤️🐈
You brought her back to life! Wonderful job! Very clever to use a laser to remove the burn spots . You just boggle my mind sometimes. Restore a finish is one of my favorite products of all time. Thanks for sharing this with us!💜
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching
BEAUTIFUL!!! I love that you try to stay as true to the original piece as possible. I also enjoy your attention to detail! You always pick such interesting pieces! I love Art Deco! Well done! 👏👏👏👏❤
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed
OH. MY. GOODNESS!! You honestly FLOOR me! This turned out amazing and honestly, I didn't think it had a chance...but sure enough.... "2,000 years later" you had it!
Amazing transformation. You’d never guess that this was the same piece.
I really like this relaxed presentation. Much nicer without the music.. you have such a soothing voice. Beautiful work.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I wish I could adequately express my amazement at how beautifully you have restored this piece. A pile of junk to something anyone would be proud to have in their home. Bravo!
It looked entirely wrecked when you got it and it came out beautiful. Amazing work as always.
The restoration of this sideboard is fabulous. Your patience in finding all of the tiny repairs needed shows off your skills and talent in restoring furniture. Thank you for sharing.
Do you ever stand back and just say "wow I did that ❤" if not you should, you are a true artist and thank for taking us along for the ride ❤
I have never seen one like this and I love that you preserved it's original character as much as possible. It's lovely.
Rufus says he does not help. He's the supervisor!!! ❤😂
I wish I could show you a picture of my cat Chanel and my kitten Ocean. Two very beautiful cats.
To say you have a gift is an understatement.
Such an understatement that the drawers look “pretty nice”. They are fabulous 🎉
thank you 🥰
The repairs you made are so flawless. Impeccable job. And as always, I love your fuzzy friends coming for snugs.
THank you. That piece deserved what you did for it. I took a breath of horror at first sight of the "up cycle", and didn't release it until the final video. Beautiful.
Thanks I love our work, as well as your cats!
What a transformation!! I would have never guessed this piece had so much potential!
Really really well done. I love a sympathetic restoration where as much is preserved as possible. Every piece has a story!
Well done. Looks museum worthy!
That is such a groovy piece of furniture, beautiful job, love that you kept so much of the original. Sometimes I see these videos where upwards of 75% of the piece is brand new and I always think “why not just build a new one?” Well done!
Thank you very much!
Love it! Who wouldn’t want this beautiful piece in their home? Well done!
Your salvaging the top veneer is nothing short of miraculous! I looked very hard at the final result and couldn't see anything worth noting. If the repairs are visible "in person", they can't but give the piece character. I love watching you work.
Who knew all that beauty was underneath all that mess? Not me. Great job Jay. It's fabulous x
Definitely a worthwhile restoration. Final result was excellent.
First time watching a live one!!!
awesome ! welcome
A wonderful result! You have restored the dignity of this thing. With all due respect!!!🌹🌹🌹
Thank you! Cheers!
Initially I thought this piece could not possibly be saved. But then you let us know that Rufus would be supervising and I knew it would be exquisite. 🐈⬛
I truly look forward to each & every new episode of your fantastic restoration projects, every day!! You’re a truly wonderful, talented, gifted, experienced, expert artist, & it shows in each of the beautiful projects that you put so much of your talent, compassion, & care into!! Thank you for rescuing these fantastic, forgotten works of art!!!
Good evening from Barcelona Spain

Beautiful piece. Restoring the top vs. replacing the veneer keeps a part of its history, and I respect that.
25:08 The imperfections and clues to your repairs are part of the piece’s history. They make it and the passage of time, the extension of effort, beautiful. This isn’t something put it a warehouse off a sales floor in the 1930s - it’s something with more experience, that has been loved.
I love how you take your time and meticulously repair your pieces, but at the same time I find myself anxiously, impatiently waiting on your next video… 😅😅😅❤
You are a very talented young man. I appreciate seeing how you use various tools and equipment to restore. I agree that it is an art. I love all the videos I have viewed and your furniture is beautiful. I went back to some of the older videos and it is cool to see how your talent and ability have grown. I always get a smile from the neighborhood cats who love to inspect your labor!😂 keep restoring the old, new and dumped treasures you find.
Continue to be impressed with the work you put in, on your projects. You never give less then perfection. Well done Sir 👏
Thank you very much!
The small dings and discolorations that remain are part of the history of the piece. I think it’s lovely that you get it back as close to original as possible.
The street cat visits are my favourite part (along with the staining!!)
Well, you DID IT AGAIN! This piece was hideous before and elegant now. Your work ethic shows in every piece you flip! Each time I watch a video, I learn something new. Thank you!!
Well done. It looks wonderful. I love Art Deco, or Art Deco style as the case may be, furniture. I love the lines. You did this piece proud.
That first swipe of stain is so rewarding. Great job.
You love scraping and sanding so much. It shows by all the lovely sanding and scraping you did. Beautiful!
Wow! This really turned out gorgeous!
Those fittings really lift the piece from ordinary to stunning!
💛
That gold shade you choose for the hardware is really perfect, brings the whole piece together 😁
The bottom definitely looks like an afterthought to me. LOVE the look of the finished hardware!
I think the repairs look great. They honor the history of the piece; they are a tidy, neat repair that says, "I have loved a little but I still look good!" I really like your esthetic; you have a knack for accentuating the natural beauty of each piece. Also, your neighbors have great taste in cats--they are all so beautiful!
This is amazing! When I first saw this piece, I wondered why you would waste time on it. After you finished, I understood. It is beautiful! You do such lovely work.
Awesome! Thank you!
I suppose the doors must have been replacements, then? Anyway, I'm glad it reached your careful hands. Please thank Rufus for his incredibly useful helping. Also happy to see you featuring appropriate PPE. Good educational moments make me happy.
And,…..he’s pulled another one off!! Amazing!
Wow, another superb transformation/restoration-now I’ve seen it to the end - maybe those doors are the originals after all. I really love the hardware - such pretty details and because of the size of them they just make this piece. Great job as usual. Really like the colour and finish too. ❤
Your attention to detail is commendable. I really love watching you work & have never seen one project I didn’t like, no matter how it turns out. The way you figure things out, how you fix what seems (visually) to be unfixable…I’m truly amazed. Well done! And keep up the wonderful, beautiful work. ❤️👍🏼😁
Hi,
The transformation from Frankenstein's monster to a beautiful swan is so impressive. And the attention to detail, cleaning and refreshing underneath the bottom which is not visible shows the pride in what you do.
Thanks
This looks very nice indeed. All the repairs on the top actually look like knots in the wood now and not repairs at all. Great job. Have a great day
Thank you very much!
Beautiful restoration! This piece has character and a story to tell! Thank you for doing this! 👏👏👏
My pleasure!
It is just lovely and I especially love the match you made with the walnut stain. And then the “chocolate” stuff on top was a great finishing touch. And just as I was missing the beeswax orange substance, there you were using it on the inside pieces. I think the laser cut circles were a genius move and turned out nicely. And bonus kitty!!!
Such gorgeous oak veneer and I'm so glad you saved it!!! It looks absolutely perfect~
Thanks 😊 it was an interesting one
I hope that you send a photo of the item before restauration with every sale that you make! This is not just a side board it is a wonderful conversation peace. You are a great artist!
What a fabulous restoration! I've said it before but it bears repeating. Your attention to detail is second to none.🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Thank you Donna 💛
Wow. These are my favorites that you do, restoring something that's been essentially destroyed back to its original glory.
Thank you!
Jay, you are so wonderful to watch. I like your accent and the cats. Your results are so rewardinv.
Very kind ❤️
Wow night and day. Gorgeous.
Amazing transformation! That piece turned out absolutely beautiful. ❤
I love all of the time and care you put into all of these sad pieces. ❤ you are a true artist. Thank you for sharing
Every time I think there is no way to save a piece you prove me wrong. The finished piece is gorgeous.
Thank you 😊
Another trash to treasure transformation!! That sideboard came out splendidly! ❤
Absolutely stunning. I wish I lived in the uk, I would buy so many pieces from you. 🤩
Thank you so much!
I’d go broke buying pieces from him. Lol.
I love how you say you can still see the damages! I couldn’t see them at all!! Nice to see this piece restored with the original veneer.
It’s beautiful!
I can’t believe it’s the same piece! What patience and skill you have, just beautiful.
Beautiful work! Hard to believe it's the same piece. I just want to put things in it!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Jay! What a gorgeous piece well, when you were done with her! So many great tips today that even I can tuck away. I love your work. You are such an inspiration. Once again, thanks for sharing.
You are so welcome! Glad to hear that
What a beautiful piece of furniture. I'm so glad you saved it from its miserable up-cycled state.
So glad your supervisor, Rufus could help you...
It looks soooo much better. You did a splendid job! I’m impressed.
Thanks so much! 😊
Watching from Australia. I love that you give every piece the detail it deserves...wonderful restoration ❤
Love the little humorous comments too...great work!
thank you !
I think those small imperfections give it character. It's a beautiful piece.
I can’t get over how beautiful it looks.
Wow. I thought the original looked like metal, not wood. You did an amazing job with this!
What a beautiful and unusual piece. Your restoration is brilliant!
This makes me think of photos of my grandparents house from my mom’s teenage years. So nice to see it unpainted!
Utterly, completely, absolutely and altogether magnificent! My highest praise.
Jay, as always, this turned out just beautiful!! I have a feeling, that somewhere along the way the original cabinet doors were damaged and then replaced with ones that were "close enough". Maybe that's why they were trimmed with solid oak. This may not be it's first sympathetic restoration. Just a theory...
You always find the most interesting pieces and give them such love and attention.
I think you are great. You do a great job. You are a true artist.
You have such vision and faith! Even when finished to your amazingly high standards it still doesn't float my boat. But then, what do I know?
Those circular lazer cut veneer patches were absolute genius and respected the history of this unusual piece in a way I've never seen before. Thanks again for a really informative and instructional video.
Bless you.
Awesome 🤩 glad to enjoyed it 💛
Yep
