I had not really thought of that. It is true about the winding from the needle with the exception of the Singer Touch and Sew -- but as far as contemporary machines, this still stands. I am delighted that you continue to get good use out of your Viking. And certainly when mine gives up the ghost, I will have little hesitation in buying a new one.
Congratulations on your new "old" machine. The old ones were really built for endurance. I can see that you are very interested in getting it to work for you, even though it doesn't have the bells and whistles that the new ones have. But seeing as it is just a 12 year old machine, it looks like it still has some lovely designs in it. Can you download designs from the internet? From watching your video on the LB6810, I see you have a PC and not a MAC, which I have. I just bought a BrotherLB6810 from Walmart for $589., but with the GST & PST, it came to $659.68. That, for me, is a bit pricey for being an entry embroidery machine. I had read that this machine is good for beginner embroidery people, which I am. (But have sewn with my Pfaff for many years.) I have had it for a month now, but not able to do anything with it as I became ill, so had to put it off. I was thinking to return it and get a better one that can do more and larger designs. Being a 71 y.o. female, I am still interested in doing all my crafts. But not sure how much I can do as I am not as well as I used to be. I also have down-sized into a condo, so there's not much room to do all the things I used to do. I have tons of very large table cloths that I want to jazz up and sell; that's why I was wondering if I should go for a machine with a larger hoop. Common sense tells me that there are two ways to go about jazzing things up: large and multi-small. Nice to see you are doing wonderful things, and being young, you have many years to do many lovely things with your machine. Don't give up, just keeping sewing and learning. Don't be offended but even thoughI liked your video, you need more light and someone else to get the real close-ups on what you are doing, and not moving the camera a lot. Also,, no background TV or radio. (PS: I can take movies, but don't know how to upload anything, Yet!!) Good luck with your machine and in all that you do.
Can you tell me what needles I need to use with the Husqvarna Viking Platinum 950e Royal I think it is any help would be great I just came up on it through eBay and I am looking forward to working with it but I need to know what needles to get the best kind of backings to use as far as like your tear away and stuff like that so any help I think it would be appreciated thank you

Maree Berends I have posted a video on installing the software which you will need unless you have loads of preloaded D cards. What were you thinking of so that I can do something focussed to help?
I'm stuck as my machine came without the 4d organiser cdrom for installing the software for embroidery. It also didn't come with the product pin. Any suggestions for a dummies troubleshoot would be greatly appreciated. By the way i have watched most of your videos and find them very helpful and clearly explained. I wish i had a bit more sewing and embroidery machine and software knowledge but i am sadly only at the beginner stage.
It's okay i found a way around it all on the software update link on the husqvarna sewing machine website. Now to install and design and embroider! Thanks for your help and quick reply.

Hi James, Hope you are keeping well. I know that you longer have the Husqvarna Viking Platinum Plus sewing machine. I have messed around with the machine a bit and am now "stuck" in some or other mode and I wonder if you could please tell me how to go back to the manufacturers default where there is nothing programmed into the machine. I wanted to buy a spring loaded open toe foot to do free motion embroidery on the sewing machine, but have been told that the machine is too old and I will not be able to get one, (in the UK anyway) When I lower the feed dogs and turn the machine length and widths to NIL, the machine should still do FM, but it won't (that is without a foot, just the needle, unprotected). What is the R foot for? I did not get many feet with the machine and only one tiny hoop. Thanks for your help, Kind regards, Joan.
Hello Joan. The machine is low shank so it will take a low shank spring foot. You will need to take off the Viking specific toe clamp and then attach the hopping foot to the bare shank. I would suggest that we have a video conference together (I use skype, and a few other applications for this so it will be easy for us to connect). If you can get to the machine menu, then there is a reset button there.

Did your unit come with the laptop? I purchased one with everything except for the case, I would like to sell mine because I would not be able to sew anymore.
My laptop is my own personal one. The seller had a complete machine with attachments, so I was able to work once I figured out how to put the software on my Windows 10 laptop.

I just received this Husqvarna Platinum 955 e from a aunt with all the books and attachments, but I still cannot get machine to embroidery. If you still have this machine can you go step by step with camera on function panel. Someone said I must be missing a step from edit to start.
The thread should slide into from the open side without a problem. Sometimes it might be bent and too close the the needle bar. When I thread machines, I find it helpful to either put my finger on the thread spool or drop the foot at this point to put tension on the thread to make it easier to get into that guide. If it is bent, the get something flat (perhaps a thread cutter or nail file) and bend it out about a thread width, this will make it easier to slide the thread in. You do not want this out too far or the thread will fall out of it.
I have the Platinum 955E also. It is a 3D card and will only run on Windows XP as far as I can get it to work. I’m looking for a specific 3D card for quilt designs. So frustrating.
Katrina, I think that I paid $300Cdn for it. I know when it dies (which I hope will not be for a long time) that it will cost me thousands to get a newer model.
@@jamesrogers991 i bought the same machine cost me a thousand. and im having issues with my computer not wanting to interface with the reader/writer. i heard you say you were able to use it with windows 10, i was told i couldnt. so on top of the thousand I spent another couple hundred on a new/old computerwith windows 7. could you please address this as well.

Para costurar, certifique-se de que o acessório de bordado não esteja conectado, que o enchedor de bobina esteja na posição para cima e que os dentes de transporte estejam engatados. O enchedor de bobina está no canto superior direito e se move para cima e para baixo. Os cães de alimentação são controlados por um botão bem na sua frente na borda inferior da máquina. Ligue a máquina e ela deve funcionar.

Hi James, I noticed your video's were from 2 years ago. Are you still using the Husqvarna Viking Platinum Plus and any issues with it? I have someone local to me selling one along with a 4D card reader. However, in calling the company directly they no longer use readers nor do they support this older model in any way. I know this model was made in Switzerland so it must be good quality however, I'm not sure if it would be wise for me to purchase this as my first embroidery machine. I did see your video that the 4D could be used with Windows 7 but aren't you limited to the designs on the cards? If you have no cards can you even embroider with this machine? Any information would be helpful to me. Thanks in advance for your time!
Yes, I still use it. I have had the odd problem with getting support from my local dealer; however, using eBay and hunting around, I have been able to replace my needle threader. Everything else has continued to work fine.
Thanks for getting back to me James. Are you limited by the designs on the cards? I saw some cards on Ebay but they are quite expensive; like $50 - $60 each. I do have Windows 7 so I was thinking I could use your video to load the software. Will you be making any new video's; maybe one showing how the card reader works?
I create designs and upload them on the personal d-cards. I also used the predesigned cards as well. I download files more often for sure since I do alot of unique work. I have used the cards successfully.
You are so kind to share your knowledge with me. I did not know you could create files and upload them to the 4D card reader. Do you have a video on how you download the files to the cards and load to the machine?
The 4D card reader is what permits the files to be transferred to the personal dcards. It is not needed for prebuilt cards which can be inserted directly into the machine. I will try to create a video to show this in the near future.

Nice machine. I have an older one model 350 and i love it. Viking sewing machines are the only ones that let you wind your bobbin from the needle.

Some Pfaff machines let you do it as well. I have a Quilt Expression 4.0 by Pfaff which allows me to wind a bobbin from the needle.

They take standard needles (15X1) the bobbins are proprietary but easy to get.

On the 950e does start and stop button work on sewing part of the machine?
I think it only works on the embroidery setting. I always use foot controllers when sewing so I have not tried it.

Sue, I no longer have the machine. However, I am happy to walk you through it. I can use video conferencing or telephone.
At 11.14 how do you put the thread through that little guide (the one just above & before the needle?

Where did you get the thread guide at top of the lid?
It is part of the machine. If your machine is missing it, get a piece of wire, curl it around a screwdriver shaft and then glue it on.
