Make sure to measure your WIDEST area for the bottom ribbing, not just your waist! Also, because th3 actual circumference of the sweater is determined by the size of the bottom, you want to ensure that the sweater itself is large enough to fit comfortably over your whole torso! And if that's larger than your waist measurements, I say it's better to have a bit of a looser bottom than not have a sweater at all! However, I'm not an expert, I don't make patterns, but I'm guessing that you could also do a similar thing with the bottom ribbing that you do with the sleeves, if you want the bottom to be just a bit tighter than the rest of the sweater.
