Moving the magic knot to a better position is just brilliant!! I’ve been doing the magic knot and just fudging where the knot is made and, yes, trying to pull the knot through the stitch. And the secret is not to pull both yarns, but just the working yarn. Thank you!!
Thank you for this wonderful tip! I have found when using knots that are trimmed close, using a drop or two of Fray Check on it will help take any worries of it eventually coming undone, It dries a bit stiff, but will soften and become unnoticeable after a couple of washings. It is made by Dritz and is found in the sewing notions area. It is just an idea to give that extra feeling of security for yourself.
If I find Im slightly out with where the knot ends up I adjust my tension. Pull out 4 or 5 sts & then slightly change ur tension to move the knot to where you need it to finish up. Too far thru the last stitch then slightly loosen ur tension in the last few sts, if the knot ends up thru the last stitch a tad too early then slightly tighten ur tension. Its a very tiny adjustment in the last 4-5ish sts that can change where ur knot ends 🙂

This is the method I use. It’s easy to hide the knot…and it’s much more secure. Growing up with my moms, afghans, coming apart in areas…I have always worried about that happening to mine. So I learned this knot technique, when I first taught myself to crochet. You did a great job, teaching others to do it 🩷

I just started a project similar to a temperature blanket with colour changes for every row and this came across my feed. What perfect timing! Now I'll only have the ends to weave in for the 7 rows I've completed so far the rest will be done like this! Thanks so much for this tutorial!
I have been crocheting since the age of 11/12 yo. I have "accidentally" done this type of joining for years & never knew any different. I also have done this type of joining "mid-project', when making a motif or such, but I leave the tail of the "main yarn" & crochet into the project "hiding the end".
It took me a couple of tries, but I finally got it! Thank you so much for this excellent tutorial… it is truly a game changer for me! I really hate it when I wash my afghans, and then have to re-weave all the loose ends back in! Bye-bye loose ends!

I have come back to crocheting this past month and finally got my ends straight but changing colors at the end is a struggle till viewing your insturctions. I had long tails to weave in for fear of it not staying in place. Your work is so clean. I know practice I will get there with your expertise. This is now a part of my go to. I think this is the knot demonstrated for connecting braided fencing "rope" on Greg Judy Regen Ranching. It allows the metal strands in the braid to touch. I use it in fence lines, knitting, and crochet, too... versatile!
This is the best demostration and technique to change colors at the end of a row I have seen! I don't like to change colors because I dread hiding all those ends when done with a project. This is awesome! The algorythm showed the video in my feed and I stopped scrolling out of curiosity. So glad I did! @@nanalisa8 hi! It’s the same way. Just mark (mentally or with removable marker or pencil) your spot and have the working yarn knot end up at that mark. The new color knot is the top knot, new color bottom knot. Pull together. Fabric glue if you choose. If you’re just adding the same color then no worries on where the knots end up. Just do the magic knot towards the end of your one strand and good to go! Thanks for watching!

@@Carolyn-qd8mj so I struggled with this because the knot kept popping out and in an attempt to hide it it unraveled so I kinda ended up with a problem I was able to fix it somewhat just looks a tad bulky in that area. I had to add more yarn over it so ensure it wouldn't come undone. So just be careful! And just don't mess with it like I did 😅.
I have always heard about this join but could never figure it out for colour changing as I could never work out how to get it placed where I wanted the knot to be. So I only used it when I needed to change same coloured yarns when making a large project such as a blanket. I have been crocheting for near enough 50 years and I hate sewing in all the ends with a pretty colour changing blanket so I tend to make envelope borders to hide them away, so this is going to be a game changer for me! I have been crocheting since I was 7 years old. And I have been crocheting over the loose yarns so I never have any ends ever because I crochet over all the extra yarns.
I use this knot to add a new skein. This is great! I will learn to use it in color change as well, thank you! I wonder if you would do it the same way for knitting. BTW, Caron Simply Soft is my favorite as well! I only use other yarns for craft crochet. I try to buy a lot of Caron simply soft when I find it on sale lol

I have a thread and a cord burner, for use in finishing braided and beaded jewellery. It melts /fuses the thread ends together . I Must give it a go with this technique, after trimming close to knot, so it cannot unravel. Maybe useful in one ply lace yarns when knitting too.

I will have to try this method. I have messed up both color changes using the other method I have seen. I not only had to weave in the ends, I also lost a stitch or 2 doing the other method.

Thank you I will definitely try it. A suggestion I’d like to make is to perhaps swap the dark purple yarn for a lighter colour. It would be easier to see the stitches then

I have been crocheting since I was 7 years old.
And I have been crocheting over the loose yarns so I never have any ends ever because I crochet over all the extra yarns.
Yes I used to do this but they can tend to work themselves loose over time.

I use this knot to add a new skein. This is great! I will learn to use it in color change as well, thank you! I wonder if you would do it the same way for knitting. BTW, Caron Simply Soft is my favorite as well! I only use other yarns for craft crochet. I try to buy a lot of Caron simply soft when I find it on sale lol

I have a thread and a cord burner, for use in finishing braided and beaded jewellery. It melts /fuses the thread ends together . I Must give it a go with this technique, after trimming close to knot, so it cannot unravel. Maybe useful in one ply lace yarns when knitting too.

I will have to try this method. I have messed up both color changes using the other method I have seen. I not only had to weave in the ends, I also lost a stitch or 2 doing the other method.
Hey! Thank you for watching! Do you mean the (I think its called) Russian join? I struggle with that one and prefer this method. Some dont like the knot but it doesnt bother me at all.
