this is the epitome of youtube. Everything about the production of this video screams amateur (except your playing), yet this video is extremely useful and informative and I couldn't find anything else with the content I was looking for. I mean that in the best possible way and thanks so much for making this and other otomatone videos!
If you have a normal Otamatone instead of the Deluxe: Everything in this video should work fine. You may have to crunch your fingertip very close to the edge of the fingerboard to get the very lowest note. If you're having trouble getting the pitch low enough on a normal Otamatone, try to roll your finger over towards the tip and even the nail. That will bring the contact point closer to the very tippy end of the fingerboard.
Maybe you aren't the one to ask, but do you think the pinestripe tape stuff would still be viable on a regular-sized otamatone? I feel like half-step taping might be impossible.
This guide helps allot...if each Otamatone was the same. Apparently there is a variety, so I'll just keep on trying stuff until I can learn this weird cute little guy.
Ignore this comment just leaving some time stamps so I can easily rewind to the end of each section. Great guide by the way Twinkle (basic) start: 1:36 Twinkle (basic) part 2 1:42
I'm really struggling learning how to play, I've watched your beginners guide and it hasn't helped me very much, but don't get wrong your videos are good but I need more help. Any tips?
7:35 As someone who learned guitar left-handed first, and always had to juggle the idea of which direction made the pitch go up or down, I'd say the best way of thinking about it is that going *inward* makes the pitch *increase,* and going *outward* makes the pitch *decrease.* It's slightly awkward wording, but it's the most accurate and hardest to mix up.
I never thought of that one. It's really weird to me as a musician when normal people don't automatically think of whichever random direction raises the pitch as "up." XD
thank you so much for these tutorials! used to play violin YEARS ago and figured I could eventually catch onto this. just got my otamatone and I'm super stoked to learn! :) thanks again.
I’ve never played a string instrument so I don’t have any experience with moving my hand around a neck (this sounds really wrong) but I play the piano and it’s kind of like that and I also play the trumpet and I have to move my fingers around a lot. This will be a fun challenge if I get my hands on one.
weird.. my lowest note on my otamatone sounds much lower than yours. I have to be farther down on the otamatone to make the same sounds your doing for the song. and my otamatone is set on mid
Since I made this video, I've noticed other youtubers with otamatones that were as far as an octave off from mine. It seems they vary a lot more than I expected.
On a literal level, yes. For the sake of this tutorial, it's not; a musician plays it more like a percussive instrument than a stringed instrument or any other class of instruments. However, I feel like when he talks about stringed instruments, he should be talking about fretless stringed instruments in particular when it comes to the fingering.
I've a problem, i'm from Spain, i dont know so much english pronutation, i want to know how to Play otamatone, but, i can understand u some much, can u put subtitles? THX
Eh, I've not quite mastered Twinkle Twinkle Little Star yet. However, I've noticed it is quite easy to follow along with the notes played in the video, so I've started working on something that can create otamatone music to play along to. The only thing is I start more projects than I can finish.
Wow that sounds really good our white otamatone did I got my sister for her birthday sounds terrible it makes static noises and stuff And my sister put new batteries in it yesterday the batteries that came with it
Hey there Galen! I just got the Otamatone Deluxe, and am having some confusion on the notes you explained. From the video it seems like G is the note at the top of the fingerboard, however on my own otamatone the top of the fingerboard appears to be a C# according to my tuner. I've done a bit of looking and found what appears to be a note guide for the keyboard version of the otamatone and the notes on mine seem to match it a lot closer than the Deluxe should be? Any thoughts or guidance on this? Thank you for your time.
Yes! There's some variance but I didn't know that yet when I made this. Mine runs from F# below middle C at the top by the flag but C two octaves above middle C at the top of the head. However, one of my friends has her own Deluxe and it runs from G below middle C to C# above. I think she got hers right after I made this video, so I hadn't taken that into account. Some of NelsonTYC's videos look and sound as if his is an entire octave off from mine, but that might be computer editing. Yours seems to be half that far. Does yours start on C# above middle C or below?
Thanks for the information! The top of the neck note is C3#, which is below the Middle C. Middle C (C4) on mine is about halfway down the fingerboard. I've now noticed the statement on the packaging that says there is variation in each individual unit. So I'll just need to adjust my markings and placement accordingly.
I always knew Dwight from the Office is a nice guy in real life :) Thanks for the video, just bought this thing, great introduction!
Hey now, I'm a MUCH better gamer than Dwight ever could be! :)
Wow, you make something I thought was silly and dumb sound classical and professional. Good Job! Keep up the good work

Thank you for this
I just got mine.. I don´ understand anything... but I will try!! I love you for doing this!!
I'm sure you'll sound better on it than I would on a trapeze.
I'm really struggling learning how to play, I've watched your beginners guide and it hasn't helped me very much, but don't get wrong your videos are good but I need more help. Any tips?
I got mine today. How is yours ? :)
Dude, I'm amazed how accurate you are with finding the right note on that instrument!! Great job

THX DUDE, i found finally a great otamatone guide 😁

I know this is over a year old, but the box says every otamatone has a different "voice" or different notes
I have two otamatones. The lowest note on the mid-range of one is a D#, and on the other, it's an F.
This was very informational! I'm super excited to get my Otamatone so I can get started practicing!
Oh my gosh I’m learning! I’m really learning something! Thank you!
its so wholsome seeing him focus
holy heck thank you now I can brag that I can play songs on this two-eyed cutie

I've a problem, i'm from Spain, i dont know so much english pronutation, i want to know how to Play otamatone, but, i can understand u some much, can u put subtitles? THX

THANK U
will i find another tutorial of otomatone in the internet? its very hard to find a tutorial with the notes , please answer my question :/
What do you mean by "a tutorial with the notes?" Music notes on paper, or one where I say verbally what the notes are?
This is the only otamatone tutorial I can find on TH-cam.
Thank you a lot! Love ur channel ❤ and new subscriber
Anybody know an app to find the notes, preferably on iOS
Can I use this as a guide for a small one? Sorry to bother you...
Thanks! This helped me!
You're welcome!
Can you change pitch on the regular? Like from low to high octave?
Yes, but the switch is smaller and usually stiffer.
Thanks for answering quickly. I have decided to buy that one.
How did you learn how to play the otamatone
Doesn’t matter if you’re right handed or left-handed?
Are there any other tutorials? I'm going to become the otamatone master of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star at this rate!
I have tutorials for Amazing Grace and Ode to Joy as well. If you've spent some time on this one you should be ready to move on to those.
Eh, I've not quite mastered Twinkle Twinkle Little Star yet. However, I've noticed it is quite easy to follow along with the notes played in the video, so I've started working on something that can create otamatone music to play along to. The only thing is I start more projects than I can finish.
this was so helpful thank you!
Theres only two things we need *holds up 5 fingers*
My monkey brain cant comprehend this.

With the introduction of an otamatone, your life will become one of wine, women, and song. :)
+Galen Kaup haha wow
Wow that sounds really good our white otamatone did I got my sister for her birthday sounds terrible it makes static noises and stuff And my sister put new batteries in it yesterday the batteries that came with it
Are these using concert pitches?
i want one
My otamatone is named Milkshake 😂 (p. s you look light Dwight from the office)
That's an awesome name, and FALSE.
@@Nelagend what is false :p its true ya look like Dwight

To note, the lowest note possible on Mid tone setting is B5, though it is a bit of a pain because I have to squeeze my finger against the bezel a bit.
is this electric? does it take batteries?
Yes, 3 AA.
I named my otamatone, soprano
I didn't realize it until now, I need to name my otamatone. Hmmmmmm...
Damn. The otamatone is on a different pitch! :/
to make it 10x easier just practice guitar for 3 years and then do this.
As long as you shave off those silly t̶r̶a̶i̶n̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶w̶h̶e̶e̶l̶s̶ frets, sure!
Thx so muchლ(◉◞౪◟◉ )ლ
I wonder why this has no comments
+Nuwbers Crazy It doesn't! In more seriousness, though, I get more comments on Facebook than directly from TH-cam so far.
+Galen Kaup good playing and I'm going to get one soon
I wonder why this has no comment
