Aloha Steve, glad you decided to turn this into a teachable lesson. While some saw shops gatekeep….to get one into a new saw. Saw shops should seek to understand the customer. “Bad news is, its gonna cost $350 in parts not including labor, and its going to take this many hours at this rate.” first, are you mechanically inclined, do you enjoy projects, and do you want to learn!? Well, here are some videos and this is a After Market kit… you’ll learn a lot in the process. If you build it right and bring it back for a carb adjustment, for the usual rate; ill not only do the adjustment, if you like I’ll show you how that way we can be a resource for you in the future. If saw shops did this, the customer see’s the shop as an ally, in a wide range of circumstances. Glad you went this way with the 372 🤙🌺🏝️ -A Dominic - Hawaii
Most folk drink OR mechanic. Keeps the brew cold. I didn't expect disheartening drama with the beer on the table being unattended so very long. And obviously, there are no house pets' around to re-locate all of the small disassembled parts or will there be more disheartening drama in follow-up videos?😼😼🦮🦮 Great video.
Awesome thanks Steve. Cool i made the same socket tool to rebuild a 1978 ts185 2-smoke engine. It was either for the wet clutch basket, or the drive gear behind it, cant remember. Was my first split the case full rebuilt.
Steve, Great, Great video your making!!!!! This will show people what’s involved in a total rebuild of Bottom and Top End of a saw. I’m glad you chose an aftermarket kit…some are good some not so good. If you know you can get a kit that will preform and last! A lot of good kits out there.
I did a top end rebuild on a Husqvarna 350 for about the same price a few years ago (five years according to Amazon). I would do it again if I needed to, it has worked fine for seasonal (a couple of cords of firewood each year, a few downed trees and limbs) use. Not difficult, in my memory, but your video would be a great resource if I do it again. I do have a carb rebuild on my calendar for next month though. Thanks Steve!
Great idea! This is going to be very interesting, especially the teardown after the after market parts! Going to watch with much interest with my Guinness in my paw. My OCD is killing me since I see no bottle on the backwall, you are killing me, Steve!
My son-in-law burned up his MS 170, compression of about 40. It's a cheap chainsaw but I'm going to give it a try anyhow. Kind of like you I plan on getting a cheap kit and if it works fine and if it doesn't it will be a learning experience. Definitely enjoying this video series.
Steve the flash light lights just go off and on with no stopping, You might have to remove the battery to keep it from running down. Never seen a light that has a mind of its own. Great video!
You will probably find your old case splitter soon after the new comes in. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣 That's the way it goes for me. I couldn't find the battery pack for a Black & Decker drill, so I went to Lowe's to buy one. The battery was like $2 less than the complete drill kit, so I bought another drill kit. Got home and found the battery pack 😆 so I returned the new kit. I guess the new cylinder head is oversized for the new oversized piston. Didn't see you check that. Looking forward to Part 3.
You can see why dealers usually say its beyond economic repair with the amount of work it takes to strip a chainsaw! Aftermarket parts? I had a Honda mower in for a new piston and rings and crank seals, £250 for OEM parts, £35 for Aftermarket, and it runs fine 😊 at that price it doesn't matter that much if it only lasts a couple of seasons.
STEVE MY BUDDY ORDERED A 52MM FARMERTECH BIG BORE CYLINDER AND PISTON KIT, FOR HIS HUSQVARNA 365 SPECIAL ,I INSTALLED IT FOR HIM 6 YEARS AGO AND IT STILL RUNS STRONG HE CUTS ABOUT 7 BUSH CHORDS WITH IT PER YEAR
That saw might still last for quite a while when properly used with good qualiy oil at the proper mix ratio it calls for. And i would not bother using that TruFuel or any other of those premixed canned fuel brands. I prefer to mix my own fuel so i know what I'm working with.
you can after removing the crankcase bolts toss that in the oven at 400 for about 10 minutes(make sure the wife doesnt have a roast in there!!!) ant it will come apart. same for going back together. the aluminum expands more than the steel. biggest thing going back together is to be sure the bearings are fully seated.
Informative and always interesting how you know your trade SteveO 🔥🔥. Definitely save some cash 💸 💰 if your skilled! . Hopefully you and April have a great weekend! Cheers 🍺🍺
I got a free 1970s Kawasaki 250 for free because the engine was seized. I replaced a piston and some rings and honed the cylinder and it started right up. If I'd known what I was doing I could have only replaced the rings because I damaged the piston by jamming it into the rod when I freed it up and removed it. I think the new piston cost me $25 bucks in the mid 80s. The whole thing was maybe $30 including the gas for the trip to go get the parts.
My saws I buy them used and I average around 10 years with them I only bout two saws new 1 husky3 years later gave it away the other is a Remington 5 years later still running really prefer stihl over any of them
The bigger piston will make it 84.5 cc. So you will have to call it a 384.5... I did a 72cc kit on a 66cc saw, and the bigger piston was actually lighter. Made a very strong 272.
You got yourself a Farmertec rebuild kit. Cheap? Yes SIR! Junk? you better believe it! Some issues include but are not limited to: Crankshaft failure: twisting, rod failure. Cylinder problems: poor casting quality causing the ports to be mislocated, by eye, it all looks good until you assemble the saw, and you are lucky enough to notice the piston ring and alignment pin on the lower ring are visible at BDC through the intake port, the squish band is too tight or way too big.
Im sittin back laughin at your experiment!! LOL i totally understand because i did the same thing since i worked for a public entity and i was paid either way. I did aftermarket parts too..Our people hammered these units...It should last if you use it normally and dont overrev it and put in oil mix...Best wishes..Doug..PS Wheres April..??
If the connecting rod bearing destroyed itself, won't there be damage to the crankshafts rod journal? If so, you'll need either a regrind\polish and new, larger bearings or a new\used crankshaft.
"If the connecting rod bearing destroyed itself, won't there be damage to the crankshafts rod journal? If so, you'll need either a regrind\polish and new, larger bearings or a new\used crankshaft." Yeah, thank goodness that didn't happen!
Nice video Steve, don’t use the piston clips that came with the aftermarket kit, just reuse the old ones. The spring tension of the OEM ones are way better and the ears on aftermarket ones commonly break off and destroy the engine.
Good thing with the aftermarket head kits is you can learn to port and polish the inlet and exhaust ports. Also is you don't want to pay husqvarna prices but don't trust cheap aftermarket parts but want oem parts at a lot cheaper price look for zenoah engines. As every basic small engine 2stroke engine is based on the zenoah engine
If you are fixing for the customer than yes it's not worth the oem parts and labour's. He got the saw given to him, so he bought scamazon parts to see if they hold up and give great content for his channel. Every one wanted to see a rebuild series.
Check that gaetor/rubber connecting from the carb too the piston, if there's a hole in it or its not connected correctly it could cause the damage to the piston, that you found.
Ok. 48mm piston makes it a 365. The 372 has a 50mm piston. So if/when you reassemble the thing with the 52mm piston it will be a 365 special big bore animal completely skipping the 372 phase unless you want to call it a 372 big bore beasty.
Brutha man... recently I was cutting wood with my ms250. It was working great.. used all weekend .. 1 thing gas line between tank and carb was leaking at gas tank .. soooo I decided to go to my local stihl dealer, bought new gas line . Went home installed.. Didn't touched anything on the carburetor just pull out .. put back in now this piece of @#^•°¡ 🌰🌰 won't start at all now... Why ???????

Don't forget the lucky beer count. How many beers to do this job.
I'm guessing a 12 pk 🤔
1 per hour is standard
Most folk drink OR mechanic. Keeps the brew cold. I didn't expect disheartening drama with the beer on the table being unattended so very long.
And obviously, there are no house pets' around to re-locate all of the small disassembled parts or will there be more disheartening drama in follow-up videos?😼😼🦮🦮
Great video.
Steve loved the tear down video!😊
Yeah, I would totally take a chance at a rebuild for $50-$60 bucks!
Man, I have learned so much from this channel. I love to be around people that are not afraid to share information!!!!!
The hour clock is good. Aftermarket is not necessarily bad, but sometimes you get what you pay for.
Neat series, Steve! 👍
Awesome thanks Steve. Cool i made the same socket tool to rebuild a 1978 ts185 2-smoke engine. It was either for the wet clutch basket, or the drive gear behind it, cant remember. Was my first split the case full rebuilt.
Nice homemade clutch removal tool🇨🇦
Great video and what a massive difference in the price of original and aftermarket parts 😁
Agreed!
This is a great series! I can't wait until the next one!
Right on. Love the “screw your specialty tools” attitude.
Yeah, it's going to be interesting when he puts those bearing on the crankshaft or into the case without "specialty tools"
Thanks Steve, its always great to follow you through projects.
This a perfect video series for me. I am attempting do this same process with 9th grade students. Thanks
Best of luck!
THANK YOU FOR SHARING STEVE YOU ROCK BROTHER ☮️💟☯️
Hey Steve welcome back to youtube. Your work bench looks too clean.
Have a great day, and a big thank you for the video
👍👍👍. Thank you Steve
Great video Steve and that's cool you turned working on this saw into a series, looking forward to the next video!
I’ve done 2 stihl’s / chainsaw and blower with aftermarket and ran amazing. No issues
Farmertec in the event anyone cares
Most awesome... so looking forward to this series!
Steve, Great, Great video your making!!!!! This will show people what’s involved in a total rebuild of Bottom and Top End of a saw.
I’m glad you chose an aftermarket kit…some are good some not so good. If you know you can get a kit that will preform and last! A lot of good kits out there.
Don't forget about the little O-ring that fits under the oil pump sleeve that keeps air from getting sucked in!
Awesome video Steve. Glad you are doing this even though I don’t hardly ever have a Husqvarna chainsaw coming through. It’s still a good video.
The 372 is always worth fixing
ALWAYS… maybe not today or tommorow but inevitably… always!
Love these types of videos ! This will be a sleeper saw !! YEAH !!! a Sleeper saw !!
Steve, I like your chanel.
I would like to see more of this kind of repairs. I hope will be more subscribers to want that.
Thanks, Cheers!
Great video! It was very enjoyable.
Thank you for the video cheers to you

Keep em coming 👍
Hey Steve! Thanks for the look at this demolition.
Steve, I believe that the 365 is a 48mm, the 372xp is a 50mm, and the big bore is a 52, just my experience with these...love your channel...
You are correct
Rock on! and thanks for the tips, from the other side of the hat!
Thanks Steve, I was hoping you were going to do this.
OK, now this is getting fun. Reminds me of carving up my Thanksgiving turkey. Pass the gravy, please!
Hah! I was thinking the same as he was flipping the carcass around.
Great work, Stevoe. Thanks for sharing.
Well done Steve & I'm looking forward to the next video! Cheers! 👍👍🔨🔨
Thank you very much Sir!
Great idea! This is going to be very interesting, especially the teardown after the after market parts! Going to watch with much interest with my Guinness in my paw. My OCD is killing me since I see no bottle on the backwall, you are killing me, Steve!

Nice to see how to take one all the way down. I don't think I'll ever do it but like to know how. Have a good day. James over and out.😁
I hope part 3 comes soon; I can't wait!!
Stay tuned!
Steve the flash light lights just go off and on with no stopping, You might have to remove the battery to keep it from running down. Never seen a light that has a mind of its own. Great video!

Haha hey Steve 😅That shouldn’t affect your speech 🤪 thanks giving here in Canada 🇨🇦 happy turkey day to you all 🦃
@@stevetheriault4164 Copy, no worries brother!
I’ve never had a problem with the cheap kits, but I don’t abuse them eather and slowly break them in 😮
Looking forward to next vid
does that piston fit the bore of the cylinder?
My specialty clutch tool is good for any brand. It's a hammer and punch
The good news is that you will find your old case splitter within 2 weeks! 😮
Hi Steve, great to see you are going to fix this old lady. I'm guessing that this is a Chinese rebuild kit?
At 12:47 the lights on the Milwaukee mysteriously came on 😃
Have a nice day.
👍

It is more difficult without the beer though😂
I’ve had good luck buying cheap aftermarket carburetors on eBay. They even include your filters, spark plug and fuel lines.
If it was a 48mm to start with, it was a 365 😉
Interesting, the serial number plaque says 372!
@@StevesSmallEngineSaloon somebody musta already been there doing a p & c 😉👍

Did you do a video on replacing the belt on a B&S walk behind?
Hey Steve, any chance you could do a video about how to tweak the carb on a chainsaw when you are at higher altitude? Cheers
Its in my playlist

Thank you Steve! Sorry your crankcase splitter 'grew legs'.... Did ya check to see if wife using it for her pierogy assembly line?
You have lots of orange around you. You could add a pumpkin
Thanks for the laughs Steve. Kung Fu grip went straight to my childhood 😂

1 mm is a big bore kit, 4 mm on a tiny engine is massive.
The bigger piston will make it 84.5 cc. So you will have to call it a 384.5...

Steve can you do upload announcments please
So here we are 3 months down the road still waiting for part 3.
So did you break it trying to fix it?

i was wondering if he got a 390 kit. but the bore sizes are different from a 372 and a 372xp
