    Just one quick question - according to DuPont's own literature, Kevlar is manufactured from 1,4-diaminobenzene and benzene-1,4-dicarbonyl dichloride (C6H4(COCl)2), rather than benzene-1,4-dicarboxylic acid. I know this might be a fairly insignificant detail to be worrying about, but would the former still get the marks in an exam question?

    • @MrERintoul
      @MrERintoul  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Eddard Stark That is true. I work more to textbooks and the content that the specification covers (which often isn't factually correct). I think that an exam would give you an idea of what to write as an answer e.g. when using dicarboxylic acids and dioyl chlorides, the end result is often the exact same when it comes to the polymer formed. Provided that what you write isn't factually incorrect, you won't have a problem. You just need to watch for application and little tricks that they might have stuck in the question which give you a hint as to which molecule to draw.

    • @MrERintoul
      @MrERintoul  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Amazing Amirah It's just the way that it is. I believe that using the second example, you wouldn't be wrong in real life, but for the exam, it must be the former!

    just wonderimg was the naming right at 17:32, you called it 1,6-diamino hexane but is it not hexane-1,6-diamine?

    • @MrERintoul
      @MrERintoul  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Pierce Doherty This is one of those annoying ones where AQA seem to like the version I give (hence me naming it as such), but in reality, the accepted IUPAC name seems to actually be hexane-1,6-diamine.

    No one will read this bit at 11.18 the water is formed from OH from carboxylic acid and H from alcohol . He did it incorrectly and he said its OH alcohols group plus H from carboxylic acid. This resulted in him drawing the polyester incorrectly too. When he says it didn't matter what side o is on thats the way taught in GCSE and in A level it matters

    • @ChemSimplified
      @ChemSimplified 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're right. It's a common error to remove OH from alcohol and H from carboxylic acids. It does matter as it affects the structure of the polymer.
