      Also the value of old suburbans are slowly rising. A 1990 suburban in good condition will be worth more 10-15 years later than a 2019 one 10-15 years later

    I had three of these. 1989 I bought with 57,000 miles, ex-school bus, which just meant it was yellow. Being in New York it was rusty when I got it - the tailgate had some rot across it and while pulling on the gap to try to see if I could get the window to work, the window broke, and the whole tailgate fell out of it. The rear body brace was shot, rusted just about completely away.
    So here I am 75 miles from home and I had to go up the hill in the snow and pull barn doors off a parts truck and figure out how to install them so I can go home without all my tools and crap flying out of the back. I figured it out but it wasn't easy, of three layers of metal in the door frame only one has holes for the hinge bolts.
    I got a good 40,000 miles out of it though, beat the crap out of it, towed in one instance 7500 lbs behind it, drove it until the driver's front rocker panel was totally gone. Then I pulled the motor and trans to go in a '50 Chevy.
    The replacement for it was like this one, a 1991, it too had some rust but not as bad. It had 159,000 on it when I got it and it was tired, the guy had been using it to tow a big 8600 lb boat. Even then I drove it all over. The TBI 350 will run about forever if you maintain it. That one I only stopped driving because I got a van. The guy who bought it just wanted the interior out of it, the seats, dash, tilt column, power stuff, to go into a pickup.
    I also had a 1985 with the 6.2 I got cheap with a bad trans, parted out another one for a diesel 700R4, but never put it together.
    Which, the correct transmission for this is a 700R4. It's worth noting that some of these have a cable driven speedometer output, the 1989 I had did, the 1991 was electronic. The cable type is a tad harder to find, not that you can't swap them over, but when you're putting one in another car it makes things easier.
    It should get about 15 MPG give or take.
    I think even with the miles that would sell quick up here just because it has no rust.

      It's Ders Mane not so with a 400/6,6 small block Chevy and the 401 BBC or 396. . These motors need high gear because they have enough power to pull at low rpms. I never had a cooling problem. They had a lot better pulling power and honesty got about the same mpg as a 302/327 small block Chevy. Some put big bastard cams in them then toss on a 750 double barrel holly carb . I liked to find a small 4 barrel from a Plymouth or mercury mid sized merc comet ☄️ being the better . Tune them in about a half a bumb lower then it’s idling then nudge it a little back to TDC slowly and stop short of TDC . Turn it off start it up to hear I’d starter drags if slow ruff rolling over , retard the timing a tiny bit more then try again. I saw a 62 STUD coupe with a 4.2 I6 out of a Trail Blazer. This young guy put a moderate 70 mm turbo on it . He DYNO it with just shy of 500 hp and nearly that much torque. He is running 10.0? At his local strip with it. He claims it gets great mileage. I got a 78 shot bed . The old 250 is shot and the 3 on the tree is loose and worn out. I been thinking about swapping on out in it. A i6 will our lug a big v8!on a long mountain on the highway. It goes slower down the other Side as well. I want something to work that truck in some firewood cutting, and to pull a trailer with . I want to get a 5 speed out of a 3/4 ton truck a 5 speed . Idk about the turbo yet but maybe some day . I also been looking around for a old 2.8 5speed comero or firebird to do a swap in. Whim he kicks in that factory engine on that lark it makes some sweet music. Kinda sounds German turbo ish. Good luck with your wagon

    Since 1990 going off the combined MPG on the window sticker 14mpg, with 338000 miles on it that thing has burned 24,143 gallons of fuel. Between 1990 and now the average fuel cost would be about $1.50. So approximately $36,125 has been spent to drive that thing around....neat!

    This is how I found my '90 GMC 4x4 1500 Suburban. It had been donated to the local Goodwill. Peeling white paint, crash damage to the passenger front door, flat front tire, 224k on the odometer. It was love at first sight. I took it all apart and had it repainted in Dupont Nason Urethane, in the original white. Scoured the local wrecking yard and purchased a couple rear seats, and took the fabric off them right there in the yard, because that's all I wanted. Had the broken front seats welded and then reupholstered in the original gray material. Added a small tach, trailer brake controller, trans temp gauge, giant B&M finned aluminum trans pan, and matching 11x11 external trans cooler. Converted the a/c (front and rear) to 134a and fixed the inoperative dash flaps. Upgraded to a Delco stereo that takes a CD and has a 5 band EQ, and set it back down on a set of white letter Generals in the stock size. That was 2005 and I still have it. It's been the family road trip machine, ski trip machine (with cables on all 4 wheels when sh!t got serious), kid hauler, and as our child got into high school sports, it became a team vehicle for the XC and Track teams for 4yrs, because we could a total of 9 in it. It hauls the camper, the car tow dolly, and a regular car trailer. Ultimately I did upgrade the original 4L60 with a customer built version, but the engine is original, now with 308k on it. Quiet, smooth, powerful enough, and will get 17mpg out on the highway, if I keep the speed down. Just a big ol' steel box and I still enjoy every minute I get to drive it.

    • @ericknoblauch9195
      @ericknoblauch9195 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The electric rear window was problematic, and got stuck when rolling it up. The gas mileage was about 10 to 12 miles to the gallon on the highway as I remember with the 5.7 350 V8. If you chose the 454 V8 gas mileage was even less. Load it down, and pull a trailer, and the gas mileage dropped even more.
