I can understand her wishes of the trunk never being on the road again. You should ask her about how she would feel if you guys only used the truck in the junkyard as a parts go getter? Keep the truck as a junk yard truck only. Never ever will it leave the junkyard.

The video description and this whole video really tugged on the feels. The truck doesn't have to die right there. It could easily continue life as a scrapyard truck till it eventually completely and totally lays down and dies. Les would more then likely loved to see it put to work in the scrap yard.

Robert McBride same here +Jay Smart sorry for the loss of a friend, I can feel from your tone how much Les and his old truck meant to you. I agree At the very least you should keep the tag and tailgate as mementos of your youth & friend. Shame she wants the truck boxed, it really wears its scars well and looks kinda handsome in a strange way. I can see his wife's point though as it's not really be appropriate for someone to fix it up and remove its history. Might be worth suggesting allowing it to be picked for spares though since I imagine Les himself would've used scrapyard parts to keep it alive and it'd be kind of fitting that the truck helped others live on in the same way? Not to be disrespectful of her wishes of course but just a thought to maybe mention if you feel apt. Again my condolences to yourself and Les' family & wish you all well going forward.

A lot of memories and a lot of smiles. RIP Les, you were clearly a great guy and a great friend who is going to be missed a lot. If all of us, at the end of our days, could truly say that they were going to leave such a hole in friend's lives we could all genuinely say ours were lives worth living. If I was you, Jay, I'd save that licence plate, the keys, that tailgate and maybe the steering wheel to spur the great memories you clearly have of your time spent in that truck with Les, and then crush the rest. It seems appropriate that the truck that is so inextricably linked with Les should end its road with you, and now as Les' journey has reached its end too. Hang them up on a wall somewhere that you see a lot so that each time you see them they make you smile and think of Les and your time together...

Sorry for you loss, those old trucks gmc trucks are great, my grandfather had a white 1500 at his lake house. The drivers side door would require a ton of force to open, the mirrors were gorilla glued on, and there were countless amounts of scratches and dents in it. He eventually sold it to a kid about 10 years ago.

My grandpa used too have a 1990 GMC Sierra SWB, got wrecked so he had to get rid of it. I ended up getting a 1988 GMC K1500 with 4x4 and the 5 speed. Even though the heat and other options don't half work theyre reliable and workhorses. Even though the 5.7 is underpowered they have good low end torque and those motors through down and get to work. Recommend them to anyone who's looking for a truck on a budget. But I think the best thing about them is the memories you create in them.

I have a similar story as you. When I was a little kid about 7 years old we moved to a farm where we was renting a house and we became good friends with the guy that owned the farm and he had a 1998 Dodge Ram v6 since the time we moved in and we spent a ton of time in that truck running it all over the farm and helping him with other work. Lots of memories from the farm and that truck. The truck was well used like this one and also had a couple transmissions replaced lol. We lived on the farm till I was 14 and my parents bought their house. We still keep in touch with the Man who owned the farm and last I heard he still has the old dodge and drives it regularly with another slipping transmission. 😂

Just like that passenger door on the truck in the video, the driver door in my marquis is replaced. The inside has a different door handle, different door panel. The front end is an entirely different color; that’s also a replacement. It’s taken quite a beating over the years.

But as others have said keep some bits off it,The Licence Plate,The Tailgate OK its not strait but the stories it can tell!
Keep the steering wheel, one day you might get another GMC swap it over your touching then what he has ;)
Whatever you decide you will know whats right ;)

Had a friend just like that. I used to fix machines with him and go places with him and his wife to look at auctions or go buy a tractor. He passed away 2 years ago. I understand your experiences, because i had similar ones in my friend's old work van as we drove around looking for the next auction or the next purchase. It was an old Ford E250 that was mainly used for towing. His wife still has it, but it gets driven rarely.

1:49 My great grandpa died recently and he had a maroon 1988 Chevy C1500 Silverado (Maybe 2500, but I think it's a 1500) regular cab flare bed in really good condition. I remember that truck being outside of the garage at most two times in my life, and those two times were both about ten years ago. In a couple months my family might inherit the truck.
