I learned a lot. The loveless nuts to hold the scales together was a good idea. Plus the 45 degree jig really simplifies things

I’m making my first knife as we speak. I’m definitely going to make a similar jig for the 123 block. I’m assuming it’s just a magnet bar glued or taped on a piece of wood and the 123 block stick to the magnet for spacing. I also love the jig you made for the grinder to grind in the top of you scales. What angle/degree is the piece of wood cut too?

This might sound a bit silly but would it hurt the result in going through the grits if one were to keep the pins in the handle

I wonder why they don’t do the bolts as a pozidrive or torx? I would think they would be easier and safer to drive then and since he head gets ground off anyway it wouldn’t make any difference to the appearance?

With what drill you make holes on guard same as thickness of the knife or smaller?
Did You make videos about diffrent grinds and knife shapes and correspondig characteristics? For examply any thoughts about scandi grinds, their relation to the knifes width and corresponding performances?

Is it at all possible to make this without those professional drills? All I have are handheld drills and a ken onion belt grinder. One of my knives' handle is coming apart, and I'm wondering if I can fix it.

What do You think about the knifes balance reguarding the little holes You drill in order to make the epoxy have more surface conecting the blade and the handle? Totally irrelevant for handling the knife, I guess..?

What sort of drill bits do you use for drilling wood?
Any normal twist drill will work. The harder cobalt ones work better but I tend to use carbide these days due to drilling a lot of man made materials like micarta and g10 and they stay sharp for a long time 👍

No problem, well they do have a gasket effect when added to the knife, helping the bond between the handle material and the tang. Vulcanised fibre is the same material as used as a gasket in your engine of your car.
Basically they help with any slight movement of a natural handle material and the steel, But I would say 80% is really the overall look of the knife handle. Hope that helps explain it for you. Many thanks cheers Ben

What make and model grinder do you use and where could I get one?

Sir, please help me with this. The scales require 2 x holes to be drilled in the tang but most of knives like this one have 4-5 un-necessary holes drilled. Why is that? wouldnt that make the tang weak? This is so irritating and annoying. A blade should be solid piece tip to pommel with minimum holes.
These extra holes help balance the whole knife but also allow the glue to make a better bond on the handle too.
These holes will not weaken the strength of the tang as there’s still more steel and also being round there’s no stress risers on a round chamfered hole.

You don’t need a c clamp, you don’t need a block. All you need is a drill press vise. That is what its for. So you don’t have to hold the piece you’re drilling into. It holds the pieces together and holds them still as you drill.
Thanks for the comment. Sure if you find that works for you then that cool. Not sure how that will help hold the blade secure to the handle material though? This is a simple system that works well and for most folks is a simple way to get great results 👍

No,i mean 3 same drilling machines,changing drill bits takes few seconds,but steps nicely explained all in all...
@@heric.4428 I have about 7 pillar drills with all different drill bits. When your into production saving time on changing tooling is a real key 👍 glad you enjoyed it.
After saying be careful not to scratch the handle with the screw driver what does he do...scratches the handle with the screwdriver lmao!!
When we said don’t scratch the handle it was the front of the scales that are finished. The sides get ground off to shape so that doesn’t matter.
