Thank you for joining me on my channel. Today, we will be making a Drop Point Hunting knife, with an added glass breaker tip. I made this knife using 5mm Bohler N690 steel for the blade, 3mm Stainless Steel pins, Tambotie wood paired with black G10 liners for the handle scales. Feel free to use whatever you have available or prefer. Don’t forget to like and subscribe.

05:00 Marking and grinding the bevels
    09:40 Filing the sharpening coil
10:50 Grinding the glass breaker tip
    12:40 Heat treating the blade
    13:45 Hand sanding the blade
    15:05 Prepping the handle scales
22:20 Grinding the Handle scales to accommodate the glass breaker tip
    24:20 Assembling the handle scales
27:25 Grind and peen the pins
28:00 Grind the handle to shape
    33:40 Final finishing of handle

For the beveling and rounding of the pins, i chuck the pins into a small cordless drill and use that to spin the pins opposite the direction of the belt. A bit faster and sometimes you end up with a cleaner and more even rounding. Also, it eliminates the belt rash when ya get too close 😅😅😂😂

One of the best looking drop point hunters I've ever seen. It's shaped almost identically to the one I have and it's my favorite hunting knife yet. Of course yours is quite a bit better made. I'd some day like to have me a custom one like this built for me. Excellent work sir.

    Hi, well done.
You say its a N690 Steel.
Don't you have a problem with oxygen when hardening?
At what temperature do you hardening?

    • @ASimao71
      @ASimao71 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Actualy it can be done this way... Realizing how thick a knife blade is, and the heat treatment protocols given by the steel supliers (which are for one inch thickness standards) soak times and temperatures for hardening and tmpering should be "converted" for the piece to be heat treated so... Would it bennefit from an anti scale compound applied? Well, maybe... Would the use of a thermocouple give a more precise temp? Sure... But, if one has enough experience, it can be done this way for simple carbons to 12C27, AEBL, N690, D2, etc, yes. Not so much for the PM steels though. Those are a bit more finicky...

(Anmobgoccult20)S.P. Ever since the French Industrial Revolution the White Race were the leaders in Engineering. They are not very good at many other skills. It was only in the 1920's that Jspan caught up and lately China is trying their best. Every race has their own excellence and we should respect each other for that, like you do. Thanks.

    Nice metalworking and fit&finish.
Heat treat? *siiigh* Why no tempering?
I won't trust a blade that did not went through proper tempering. This is inexusable with 690, which is easy to temper (150 to 180 C, doable in simplest electric oven, and it should produce 58, perhaps 59 HRC blade with much better toughness).
