The secret of beautiful fantasy is its reflection of real-life truths. If the themes and dreams displayed aren't genuine, they do not reach the viewer/reader so successfully. One of the best aspects of fantasy, then, may be grasped with the realization that the things we love in stories are not just "make-believe," designed as an escape from reality-- rather, they are acute and often painfully pure representations of the things we love about our world and our lives, but struggle to comprehend and express.
@@manthishitwack Actually, allow me to correct that, a castle in the sky IS indeed possible! As I like to say, possible, but not plausible. As a matter of fact, the technology needed to make a flying city was around since the mid 1900s! The reason no one every made such a magnificent thing was because of our good old friend, money, of course. After the invention of airplanes and airships, it definitely was possible to make a flying city. An extra large airship with a population of one thousand could certainly be known as a flying city. Otherwise, huge floating platforms large and strong enough to support the weight of an entire city could be levitated into the sky. However, I do realize that it would take, well, MILLIONS of propellers and hundreds of thousands of engines and an insane amount of fuel to keep the castle airborne. Today, almost a century later, making a castle in the sky is still possible, yet not plausible. It would simply cost too much. But perhaps in the future we would find something that could power the engines, like in the movie, the giant aetherium crystal. Alas, that is not yet possible. What is both possible AND plausible right now is a floating city, one that floats in the ocean. I am currently writing a novel about my idea, its title is "A City at Sea." This movie was on the TV one night, when I was home alone and I watched it. Well, I tried. I fell asleep because I had never been awake that long into the night but I semi-woke up during this ending song and its stuck with me every since. It took me nearly a full decade of growing up to find this movie again and with it this soundtrack. Thanks, Studio Ghibli.
I remember being a little girl, sitting cross-legged in front of the TV when the credits rolled. This song was so beautiful that it had a rare affect on me that most songs DIDN'T have when I was little, and I cried a little bit just listening to it. What an amazing film. Thank you Hayao Mizaki, Joe Hisashi, Azumi Inoue, and Studio Ghibli!
the plot may be simplistic but the execution is damn near perfect. it has such a great atmosphere and charm to it for me. everything hits hard. that's why i used to watch it over n over again when i was a kid
Kimberly Smith Oh yes, the same thing with Spirited Away. Another thing I love in the Hayao Miyazaki movies - the heroes of them are more often girls! When I was little, there didn’t seem to be enough stories with girl heroes that were not marketing grabs. Yet, I could always find a way to relate to one of Mr. Miyazaki’s girl heroes, be it Chihiro or Sheeta, Nausicaä or Kiki.
If you would have asked me 15-20 years ago, I would have said Disney>>Ghibli, but now in my mid 20s and having watched every single Ghibli movie, I can definitely agree that it is Ghibli >>>> Disney.

I translated mother as "it" since the Earth in Japanese is gender neutral. I felt better to call it "it" rather than "her" as English convention goes.

Is it just me, but I really feel all the feelings from ghibli's anime's songs. It feels like Joe Hisashi really poured all his feelings into the songs. I feel the overflowing feel from every ghibli's song. I don't know a song could tremble a heart by its mysterious feelings.

An ancient Island lifted into the sky as a dream of it's inhabitants, a massive weapon, that lead to it's own downfall and was in the end consumed by nature.
This song is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard in my entire life and this movie is one of the movies and things I have ever seen/experienced ever in my entire life.
People always like to talk about Howl's Moving Castle or Spirited Away when it comes to Ghibli works. But everyone sleeps on this movie. It is my favorite and it has every damn reason to be
Just watched Castle in the Sky for the first time. I've already seen some other Ghibli movies but this one is easily my favorite. I wish I had seen this when I was a kid, my younger self would've been even more awe inspired than I am now
This makes me think of the endings of Nintendo games, where they do a montage of all the places you've been, all the people you've helped. Like they're saying goodbye but you'll be welcomed back any time, every time.
The greatness and perfectness of 1:41 made tears coming down from my eyes so naturally, i don’t know how should i describe this feeling But i’m sure i feel so satisfied right now this masterpiece makes me feel alive, makes me feel something different I absolutely love this song and will listen to it a lot more and never forget it Writing this at 2:45 am alone in my dark room
This is magic. And the movie is just unforgettable. Thanks to Mr. Hisaishi for composing this piece of art and to you for uploading it in such a great quality.
Castle In The Sky and Princess Mononoke have to be my favourite Ghibli films ever. The music these two films harbour is so beautifully haunting and nostalgic with a hint of sadness. The stories, characters, everything. Well..... I mean nearly all Ghibli films are like this. That's what makes them all so special. Thank you for letting me witness your tales from a young age Ghibli.
I remember seeing this movie for the first time when I was about 13 years old, and I freaking loved it. Now I’m almost 26, and I just watched it for the first time since then, and I literally cried from the nostalgia. It’s just that good.
When i watch this movies, i feel like doing the adventures along with them, and when the story end, it feels like my adventures is also end. Everytime i hear this song, i feel like i've lost something i cant describe that makes me want to cry
When I was little, around 8 years old my father would always watch movies with me on the weekends, as back then TV would actually show worth to watch movies on a weekly basis. One Saturday he only told me that the trailer he saw earlier during ad break looked promising and that I would surely like it. Until then I had only known Western animation, I didn't know a thing about Japan but when I watched that movie with my dad I absolutely fell in love with the pure art that is studio ghibli. I would regularly watch the movie when I noticed it was up on TV until I got the DVD for Christmas. I hadn't seen it for a while and watched it again as an adult and I felt right at home again. By now I have seen almost all the other ghibli films and I adore every single one of them, but CitS will forever remain my favourite.

The lyrics of this song are generally attributed to Hayao Miyazaki, but Isao Takahata (director of "Grave of the Fireflies") supervised and rewrote some of the lyrics. In other words, this song is a joint work by Hayao Miyazaki, Isao Takahata, and Joe Hisaishi.

This movie is the best. I watched it when I was child. I recently watched it with my 2 children. They absolutely loved it and spoke about for several days.
I always used to watch this movie during summer holidays with my grandmother. My grandmother isn't here anymore, and I always watch this movie if I feel somewhat lost or don't know what to do. It has a lot of inspiring aspects and it always makes me feel good.
I have to write it somewhere. I started my Bachelor in mechanical engineering back in Summer 2019 and i got my final result for the last exam which i failed 2 times last year. I studied like a madman and felt like human garbage for taking so long. I lost so much in these 4 years...my pride, my hair, hope, confidence but i perservered nonetheless. It was so effing hard and i wish i never started this journey but i passed. I PASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSEEEED. Never in my life was i so excited. I even screamed just by seeing the result. I never did anything of that sorts. I am so glad and I thank God for everything that is good and green on this earth. I hope that every single human is as blessed as i am in this very moment!!!!!!!!

I remember sitting in my room during the ending credits as a kid, completely entranced, having forgotten all outside world even existed, listening to this and just thinking... looking at that tree.
I remember sitting on the carpet at my dad's place and wathing the entire thing with my 6-years old soul not understanding much, except the emotional side. After 7 years of desperately searching for the movie, I found it. Dad gone it!
Oh wow, my comment from 3 years ago.
@@tampereenmielenvikaisinmoo9811 Congrats on finding it again! I definitely didn't understand much but the emotional side when i was young. Your dad is a wonderful person for showing this to you. My mom tells me I cried watching this. I believe these movies taught me empathy because I'm not very naturally empathetic.

Why does this movie reminds me of Sega's "Sonic 3 & Knuckles"?
Why are Japanese songs so nice? Even though I can't understand it I truly love this song 😌
I think it is supposed to be in the language of Laputa, which is very similar in structure and pronunciation to Japanese, not sure though.
This is genuine Japanese, I'm Japanese and can understand the lyrics fine.

Me too. I love all their movies but something about this one that really touched my soul.

I love all except the CGI one and Ocean Waves

I mean, do you want it like Porco Rosso? The open-ended style kind of ruined it for me because I wanted to actually see Marco with the women he loved.
We don't know each other, but I wish you all the best today, tomorrow, and throughout your life. No matter what happens, know that you matter. Know that people care. You are here because the world needs you.
Don’t we all?
@centralintelligenceagency87 I have a feeling about Spirited Away, one day in the future Chihiro will eventually pass away of old age and rejoin her spirit friends in the world she grew in, and reunites with Haku.
the Ghibli films are absolutely legendary. the art, the soundtracks, the voices, the storylines, the morals, the characters. everything. this song is maybe my favorite song among them all I'm so happy a high quality audio was uploaded!! made my night! ♥
Couldn't agree more, friend.

Especially in this film, there are a lot of details that to this day i have not unraveled. I wonder i f you know the meaning of ango, the title of the pirate dola's code book
When i''m stressed at work... or when I celebrate the Christmas alone in my tiny tidy room... I play this and I feel i'm home and have a family.

I hope you will find someone that will love you because you deserve it💕
Man...that got me
I'd love to join you for a drink one day and we can talk it out. Maybe some day my friend...
This is truly a therapeutic song. Being alone with beautiful songs is much better than living with morons.
This movie was on the TV one night, when I was home alone and I watched it. Well, I tried. I fell asleep because I had never been awake that long into the night but I semi-woke up during this ending song and its stuck with me every since. It took me nearly a full decade of growing up to find this movie again and with it this soundtrack.
Thanks, Studio Ghibli.
Man, that's weird to think about. :O
It took me 10 years to find this song and the movie. That's amazing. This film keeps the best memories of my childhood.
I felt the same when I watched this and Spirited Away for the first time. The music just moves me emotionally.
the plot may be simplistic but the execution is damn near perfect. it has such a great atmosphere and charm to it for me. everything hits hard. that's why i used to watch it over n over again when i was a kid
Genuinely a great film
I felt that too

Lyrics translation:
That horizon
The reason why it is shimmering
is because somewhere on it, the Earth
is hiding you
Numerous night lights
the reason why I feel them to be so dear and old is because I know
with one of them
you are there
Now let's set out
with a piece of bread
knife, and lamp, into a bag,
all stuffed in
Passions
my father left with me
The look in her eyes
my mother gave me
The Earth rotates
with you on it
hiding you
your bright eyes
admist the twinkling town lights
The Earth rotates
carrying you on it
carrying two of us
who shall meet one day
Note: I translated as faithfully as I could to the original. I translated mother as "it" since the Earth in Japanese is gender neutral. I felt better to call it "it" rather than "her" as English convention goes.
That's beautiful, thank you!!!!
