Rachel York- A FREAK of a talent - How she did not become a household name is beyond belief. Maybe she just had more scruples than most "stars".??? ...Not only one of the Best Bway Singers EVER.... An extremely good actress, does KILLER impressions and she is one of the funniest Comediennes I have ever seen..
So nice to glimpse pieces of this show. The sad part of Broadway is that wonderful performances cannot be shared. I certainly would love to see this production of the play in its entirety. Thank you for posting.
Thank You. I’ve seen a 100 shows on Broadway, but this is the one I regret missing but we had young kids at the time. Now I I can see the original staging. Ive seen it regional theater but it never has been a revival on Broadway despite being a Tony winner Fun Fact . James Naughton is now Kelli O’Hara’s father in law.
Equal parts thrilling and frustrating - this appears to have been purposely shot (not the usual camera phone in the balcony) and edited down to these precious moments. I HOPE a full recording surfaces - great as this is, it's maddening NOT to see the whole song, let alone the whole show. Thanks so much nonetheless for sharing this. I would LOVE to have seen this show in NY with this cast but at least I got to see an excellent roadshow production when it toured. This should have been a MUCH bigger hit than it was - great songs, cast, and a book by Larry Gelbart?! Come on! A later post mentions Barry Levinson planned to make the movie of it at one point - never too late. With the right cast, it might happen. We can dream...
It clearly says "press reel" in the description which I am learning few people ever read. That means it was intended for publicity. These are clips that TV theater critics would use to accompany their reviews of the show. It was filmed in 1989! I refuse to say anything about the stupid cell phone crack you made up there.
I'm obsessed with "Lost and Found" right now and so glad to see the orginal staging! It kinda reminded me of Jane Krakowski's "A Call From the Vatican" lol
Besides the missing sound at the start of "You're Nothing Without Me" - this is fantastic. I LOVE THIS SCORE! I really wish there would be a revival or at least an Encores concert version of this show.
Same! I hear that in 2009, Barry Levinson(Director of Diner, Good Morning Vietnam, Wag the Dog, etc) was headlined to direct the film adaptation of this show. Honestly, in listening to the music and seeing the bright and colorful Hollywood contrasted with the Gray Film Noir atmosphere makes me think ALOT about “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” for some reason. Maybe it’s because they’re both set in the early 40s(though Roger Rabbit is set in 1939).
Hey, here again from 4 years later! I looked up Mrs. York's listed birthday on Wikipedia to be August 7(which happens to be MY birthday as well), 1971, while this show premiered on Broadway on December 11, 1989. Which means she was ACTUALLY 19 here.
