I had the chance to watch the original London production back in the 90s and again in 2015 in a brilliant revival again in London by Donmar Warehouse. I absolutely adore the concept and the music. Nothing is comparable to this day.
The replacement cast is no match for the original Broadway cast. Slower tempos, discarded harmonies, things are a full level below the James Naughton, Gregg Adelman, Randy Graff cast. I had the honor of working on the show pre-Broadway at The Schubert in Los Angeles. Brilliance eight times a week.
"City of Angels" did not have a pre-Broadway run; it was mounted directly on Broadway, with previews leading to opening night. Perhaps you are referring to the subsequent national tour.
Michael Rupert is such a gem to this world!! wish to see more stuff of him!! bless you for showing us this

What a great show! Cy Coleman wrote in so many different styles - and always "right on the money." Great to see the immensely talented Michael Rupert!
