I'm Dutch, after visiting the Gravediggers in Dublin a couple of weeks ago I refuse to drink Guiness in the Netherlands. The difference in quality is borderline offensive.
Unfortunately Guinness is one of those drinks where it’s consistency is hard to maintain it seems for a pub, I’ve had what I’d argue the best pints of my life in the same place where I have left after 1 because I was so let down.. temperature, glass cleaning, everything has to fall in line.
The first one the Blarney stone has been there at least since 1980 when i lived near Amsterdam for awhile .The local Irish expats would meet up there .
I was in Mulligans last week and I thought the Guinness wasn't great. Lovely barman Sean though! Got a pint of Kilkenny after which was lovely! Would recommend the pub!
Great video and reviews. Molly Malones has always been the best pint for me in Amsterdam personally, the price was probably worth an extra 0.1 on the scores.
Mulligans is still the best pint of Guinness in Amsterdam, you must've gotten unlucky. They close up for Mondays and Tuesdays so if you were in there on a Wednesday afternoon that might have been the problem. Sean has been working there for close to 30 years! O'Reilly's is great for food and a pint, but its more of a sports bar. Great spot nevertheless. You were right about Dan Murphy's, it's a bit further south than the other places. You wouldn't really be down there unless you're going to see a gig in the melkweg or paradiso. Staff is nice though, Carlo and Dara. Wouldn't go to Molly Malones myself and the Blarney Stone is a bit of a dive with the homeless people smoking dope outside
😂 got caught in the Dam I did, went to some Italian restaurant and ordered a pint of Guinness with the meal, i thought for a sec I heard that familiar sound of a can opening 😮 I was right, the feckin charged me 8€ for a can of tepid Guinness, the absolute neck of them. Could have bought 4 COLD cans at home for that 😂I had to laugh though because others may never know the difference and think the black stuff really tastes like that when it absolutely does not. Never again. Stick to the puff when in the Dam 😂😂
I knew Dan Murphy's wouldn't disappoint. It's a favourite any time I'm in Amsterdam for a gig at the Melkweg or Paradiso, being very well positioned for both.
Guru... you do know that the Irish Pub abroad is the international meeting place. Better than the UN in NYC. So expect a varied menu. I've had TACOs at an Irish Pub abroad. Now... An English Breakfast in an Irish pub has old political row built in. Brits Out and all... But it doesn't surprise me. Especially considering the English Breakfast is pretty standard and easy to reproduce. Not like the Irish Breakfast that requires the black and the white.
I always head to Slainte first when I go to Amsterdam. I was there November last year and got speaking to a lad from Dublin about the channel. He asked my opinion on the Guinness but clearly couldn't take an English lads recommendations so decided not to bother! Gave me a few tips for when I was in Dublin the week after though
Try Utrecht next time .Cheaper than Amsterdam and only 30 min by train .Cleaner and more friendly than Amsterdam i would say .It also has canals and biccyes .
Most bar/ restaurants in Ireland wash the crockery in a kitchen . Glassware washed in the bar. The biggest reason for poor pints in bar/restaurants is that good Comes firstly . Pints are always second fiddle.
25 years ago when I worked pubs when i was a student, i used to put a logo in the Guinness pints - I hang my head in shame these days every time I think about it 🥴
Haven't read all the comments so this may have already been mentioned but wondering if the sweetness in that pint could be due to blackcurrant? Possible the glass wasn't washed properly...sorry I know that's not something you'd want to hear!!!
Only good Guinness I had at Amsterdam was Temple Bar. One of the better ones in the big cities of mainland Europe in fact. Excellent whisk(e)y selection too.
As a proud resident of Amsterdam i do have to say i've never gotten pints poured that poorly in any of the pubs you've been to (ive also visited all of them). Kinda feels you were unlucky this time or something...
As a half Irish, half Dutch person, who's spent a lot of time in both countries, don't drink Guinness in the Netherlands. It'll only be a disappointment. Keep the Guinness for Ireland.
Did a brewery trip and pub crawl there years ago with my Rugby team. May not be the greatest Guiness in the world but it's a great day or two out on the lash?
English breakfast for the win!!! Suck it down Tommy O'Padraig!!!!!! Jokes jokes, I'm Irish diaspora descended English anyway. I'd never call myself Irish, but I keep Ireland in my heart.
Yeah I was in Amsterdam a short while ago, I was dutybound to join the lads on the lash smoke-wise but I remember thinking "this city is beautiful, I just want to take it easy and stop all this madness and just enjoy the atmosphere and the culture and whatnot". I really wanted to visit Anne Frank's house and the Van Gogh place but sadly it wasn't on the agenda. Thankfully we only went to the red light district to see what it was about and we didn't mess around there, that's not my kind of thing for sure.
Sometimes Ryanair have reasonable flight prices to Amsterdam .Depends when you go .Accommodation is always very expensive there unless you bring a tent in Summer .
Me and my wife went to Amsterdam for our honeymoon and we went for a drink at this bar above a tattoo shop. The barman was smoking a cigarette behind the bar, when he made my wife's vodka and soda and switched his smoke to his other hand and dug his hand into the ice bin and put it in her glass. So gross and unhygienic
I love you Dara! I hate weed too! I'm an old school girl! 😉Much more drink screw the smoke.. LoL😄I respect what ever you do as a person but weed just ain't for me!
Guinness is only good in Ireland, i have to grin and bear it where i live in England as i live here but would never waste my money on it in Europe or further afield, always drink the beer that country is famous for u cant go wrong, oh and i fookin love the ganja 😜😜😜😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks for including us in the video my good man! Proudly serving our pints in Molly Malone's at 6 euro.
Great pints, great price!
Love Molly's. See you in August.
I'm Dutch, after visiting the Gravediggers in Dublin a couple of weeks ago I refuse to drink Guiness in the Netherlands. The difference in quality is borderline offensive.
The reason most Dutchies really dislike Guinness tbh and never got into it in the first place. Which is a damn shame.
Gravediggers is the best pint in Dublin. Hands down
Give kehoes a try next time you’re in Dublin too for a Guinness 🇮🇪🇳🇱
@@djcheckmate1 Absolutely and the pub / atmosphere were brilliant as wel. We got to know so many lovely people in 2 days time, unbelievable.
@@feargallynch5208 Will put that on the list, thanks for the tip!! Much appreciated.
Got the content rolling again and just checked. Just short of 8 mil views since Aug 2019. Good gear. Thanks!!
That bathroom has a whole new meaning to shower ,shit and a shave 🤣
Saw you jogging out on the coast road yesterday. Jaysus you’re some length lad.

Oscar worthy at the end there Guru. Superb.

Brannigans Cathedral Street
Mulligans poolbeg st
Cheers lads, Bowes on the list as well.
If you’re English you will love the temple bar
You will not be disappointed. Was there back in November. Best Guinness I have ever had.
Also, go to Kehoes, great bar and pint.
Great video and reviews. Molly Malones has always been the best pint for me in Amsterdam personally, the price was probably worth an extra 0.1 on the scores.

I got a Guinness in Amsterdam last summer and they served it in an Amstel glass 😮

At least you had Rush playing in the background at 14.00, decent music always helps the pints go down
Limelight.
Gotta get to Cafe de oude schaeper in the westerpark area.
Do you ever drink Irish whiskey? Redbreast 12 or such?
Was in the Dam on a stag a few years back great city but didn’t chance any Guinness though
Best Guinness in amsterdam has to be at De Gouden Florijn, old style glasses too and the owner Nico is a legend too.
Haven't read all the comments so this may have already been mentioned but wondering if the sweetness in that pint could be due to blackcurrant? Possible the glass wasn't washed properly...sorry I know that's not something you'd want to hear!!!

ps - awesome when Guru goes on tour in Europe even though if there is no decent Guinness to be found
Well, even the owners and staff of most of the other bars go to Mulligans for their Guinness and apart from you, everyone loves it !
The Hoopman best Guinness in Amsterdam love from Ireland my son used do barman and the restaurant next door is excellent..

I’m Irish/Dutch myself, and I’m drinking guinness everywhere and when I’m Ireland I drink beamish.
You Sure that wasn't 0.0 in mulligans. The 0.0 has a blackcurrant sweetness off of it. It's a very consistent sweet taste.
Did a brewery trip and pub crawl there years ago with my Rugby team. May not be the greatest Guiness in the world but it's a great day or two out on the lash?
the oregano kicking in at 18:23
Massive credit to molly malones for a €6 pint. My local in D15 is 6.10.
Do you mind going cities on your own? Wish I could, I’m gearing myself to go and sup in bars and get into it
He has somebody with him .I travel alone ,but then it helps that i am an introvert .
Good pints so far just roaming around Ireland the Guinness is good !
Better title might be.. The least shite Guinness in Amsterdam
English breakfast for the win!!! Suck it down Tommy O'Padraig!!!!!!
Jokes jokes, I'm Irish diaspora descended English anyway. I'd never call myself Irish, but I keep Ireland in my heart.
Come on be honest. Ye had a joint before mulligans lol!!!
Mulligans for sure though. Well, normally? Too bad it wasn't it for you that day.
Shame you didn't go cafe van daele next door to O'Reilly's as it's the best pint of Guinness I had in Amsterdam
When the hat suddenly comes off cos of the editing 😂.
Keep up the good work Daragh 💪🏻

Blarney stone is a brilliant boozer.
It always looked like a kip but they seem to have done it up a bit .
Sean dropped a little bit of coke into your Guinness fella 😂
They always wash the glass before serving in Amsterdam.
6 fir a pint in molly malones that's good
I just wish Europeans would invest in a functional shower.
Sean washed the tap with the coke tap
i'm heading on wednesday to dam, be grand to get a pint hahaa
