For those not liking this you have to put it in the context of the time. this was made 40 years ago. BBC gave it such a small budget and undervalued it so much they didn't even bother to save the original series (though paid for with PUBLIC - not advertiser's - monies). Production values were different. To us kids watching at the time it worked. Kim Braden's acting style now would be deemed over the top but it was entirely in keeping with the styles then but it worked for us then and she drew us in. OK, she looks a lot older than than the character but, again, that was the norm. Strict laws governing how minors worked meant that older actors had to play younger parts. Put the programme in the context of a different world and respect how we reacted at the time.
I LOVE this adaptation of the source material and I didn't see it first until a couple years ago! This time period in the books is so rarely adapted, and honestly Anne is definitely likely to go over-the-top in her mannerisms so I don't have any complaints about Kim Braden either!
I remember watching this as a child in the seventies. I remember that it was on a Sunday & also have a memory of power cuts & not being able to finish watching it.
I have fond memories of this1 I loved it, mainly because of Kim Braden. I fell in love with her within minutes of the first episode, and have often thought of her during the last forty years. And here she is - to tug my heart strings all over again! God bless her, where ever she is now...
It so sad that there isn't more L.M. Montgomery on the screen. There is obviously a longing for it. It's easy going and not overstimulating. A nice escape from the drama of the everyday.
Kim Braden was perfect for the role and i loved the series. Sadly i can't find the original series anywhere, either DVD or on TH-cam so I'm very hapoy even just to see this one episode of the sequel 💖 Thank you so much for uploading. 👏💖👍
This was my first introduction to the anne of green gable series I watched it every sunday as a young girl.I loved it. please up load whole series. Thank you soooooooooooooooo much for the wonderful memories it brings back.
I absolutely loved Kim Braden in Anne of Green Gables and i looked forward to every episode back in the 70s, especially with Gilbert Blythe, i thought they were wonderful together. I hope to buy the series on dvd. Thank you for uploading x (xPSSx)
The actress playing Marilla is Barbara Hamilton, a Canadian who played Marilla in the Charlottetown Festival production of the musical version of "Anne of Green Gables" way back in the 1960s.
I liked Megan Follows as Anne, but I agree with you. Kim is slender and I also think that her dresses are much more beautiful in the 1975 version. In 1985´s are a little bit boring, she always looks like a teacher.
I've just been watching an episode of The Changes, so imagine my surprise at 0:52 when the actor David Garfield appears - he's featured in The Changes playing a character with a similar personality - and voice!
this was made cheaply ,and years before the megan fellows version,it was a gigantic success in the UK at the time, and brought the story to british kids in their thousands. It was actually repeated 2 or 3 times very quickly due to its popularity
Thank you for posting. But cannot believe the stupid BBC let the original (and best series) when she first comes to Green Gables, to be lost. idiots! Typical BBC - no respect. For many of us this was a big part of our childhoods and got us to read the books. Kim Braden did a great jo.
i am a big fan of anne acted by megan follows, but this BBC is version is also fine i wonder why some commented on their looks i think they are attractive too :)
@phantomwaltz LOL!! I asked myself the same thing. For some odd reason, I warm up quickly to all of the BBC versions of books (The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, Little Women, etc.) regardless of the many versions I've seen elsewhere.
I have to give Kim Braden props - she tried. Her version of Anne is different from that of Megan Follows, but an interesting portrayal. Unfortunately she is let down by the other actors (except for Barbara Hamilton), the cheap production values (the fault with these older BBC miniseries is the stagy sets), and possibly the script and the director. You'd never think that she and Gilbert had strong feelings for each other, or that they were even friends. Yes, this version is closer to the book, and for that alone it should be viewed. But it pales in comparison to the Canadian version. It would be interesting to view the BBC's "Anne Of Green Gables" but unfortunately it fell victim to the "wiping" procedure that rendered many of these programs lost forever.
Wow I can't believe I forgot the E LOL!!!! That was a typo,honest.... After watching the whole BBC series you are right this is closest to the books. The newer ones are better acting, but the storylines are not as true to the books..
It's a ''Downloader'' ... I live in south America ... Ares is one of the program we use to download stuff ... There are probably others whre you are ...
butcher the storyline? the talent of the actors between this production and the Sullivan one is debatable, but this BBC version pretty much covers the first three books exactly. The only Megan Follows/KS movie that is faithful to the book is the first one, and even that has a lot of of significant departures from the book
@michelecayenne Anne with an E! You must be Mr. Phillips, Anne's mean teacher. No one else DARES to spell her name without an E. LOL! Oh, I agree with your assessment of the film mostly, but I liked parts of it. I liked how true to the books it was.
I wonder if the people commenting on the actors' looks are American, because, frankly, I cannot think what people are expecting: Angels? What exactly is wrong with the actor's looks? Megan Follows wasn't exactly the most good-looking of women, and she made the most brilliant Anne. Anyway, I think this BBC version may be better because the BBC would have been way true to the book than the Sullivan versions, which I absolutely adore, and watch almost every week!!!!!
The actress playing Anne shirley was pretty and distinguished and to be honest i wish i could see the whole episode because this actress looks like Anne shirley as described in the book more than Megan Follows who is a very good actress but not a true red haired girl. I dislike the actress playing Marilla but this version doesn't seem so bad..
Im sorry guys but this was years before The best AOGG movies came out so give the actors some credit for creating their roles! Although Megan and the other cast members from 1985 were so much better :)
You also can watch a very old version from 1934 which is quite good with an actress called Dawn who took the name of Anne shirley later and i recommend it because it is very touching! This is one of the oldest versions of Anne of Green gables and it is shorter than the 1985 version but quite enjoyable..
Yes maybe but don't forget that in the late 19 th century young girls were very classical and wore long dresses with ruffles and had their hair tied in buns..So they looked older than their real age..
Agree, Megan Follows was a wonderful Anne. I also prefer the other Marilla. Damn, all the cast of Anne of Green Gables are better than the ones playing here.
... terrible. Really really bad. She sound so fake... The version with Megan Follows is the only good adaptation I have see... Books are so wonderful... :(
Well here I am, watching every show or movie that exists of Anne Of Green Gables ❤

TheHazeyQ I loved this series and was sad when I had to miss one episode!

The BBC lost the footage of the original series. Sadly unless they find it, it will never be seen again :(
for us who lived a life time ago and remember gems like this /wow where did the years go my friends brings a tear to my eye this does x
I loved this series. I thought Kim Braden was wonderful in the title roll. It has such a great atmosphere. She is my favourite Anne

Kim Braden's lastest film was 'Star Trek: Generations(VII;1994)'-Picard's wife.
She was a beatiful actress.
The actress playing Marilla is Barbara Hamilton, a Canadian who played Marilla in the Charlottetown Festival production of the musical version of "Anne of Green Gables" way back in the 1960s.
Thanks.
The actress playing Marilla Cuthbert in this also played Eulalie Bugle in Road to Avonlea. Her name is Barbara Hamilton. It's on IMDb.
BBC has depictions of other literary works on lock, but Kevin Sullivan definitely did the best version of Anne of Green Gables
Thanks for posting this! Kim Braden looks so much more like Anne than that Megan what's her name - more slender and starry eyed!
I liked Megan Follows as Anne, but I agree with you. Kim is slender and I also think that her dresses are much more beautiful in the 1975 version. In 1985´s are a little bit boring, she always looks like a teacher.
Best version of Anne of green gables
I wish there was more of it to watch.
I love this version. It's closer to the books than the 1980s version. The 1980s version is my favorite.
Barbara Hamilton also played Eulalie Bugle in "Road to Avonlea".
I loved this! Having red hair....
I'm glad they include certain scenes in this because the version I love so dearly does not include these. :-(
You are so lucky to have all those subscribers just for your one and only vedio
The thing that's missing is a beautiful soundtrack... it's a little stark and bare. You can't beat Hagood Hardy's music in the Sullivan AOGG. :)
I've just been watching an episode of The Changes, so imagine my surprise at 0:52 when the actor David Garfield appears - he's featured in The Changes playing a character with a similar personality - and voice!
In every version Gilbert is the lovesick puppy, desperate for Anne to notice him.
in Anne of Avonlea, Anne is much older than she is in Anne of Green Gables.
my favourite movie since i was 12
i never heard of this!! i only knew of the one with megan follows. how could i have missed this ??? and by bbc too
I've never seen an adaptation yet that I like very much. The very latest Anne, who will be on Netflix, looks more promising. I hope so.
this was made cheaply ,and years before the megan fellows version,it was a gigantic success in the UK at the time, and brought the story to british kids in their thousands. It was actually repeated 2 or 3 times very quickly due to its popularity
this is not bad, it's just different than what we are used too.
lol, its the BBC!! The comedian Jim Gaffigan says Americans are so obsessed with beauty that when they watch the BBC they think everyone is ugly.
Thank you for posting. But cannot believe the stupid BBC let the original (and best series) when she first comes to Green Gables, to be lost. idiots! Typical BBC - no respect. For many of us this was a big part of our childhoods and got us to read the books. Kim Braden did a great jo.
@irontown My sentiments entirely!
I downloaded all on Ares 2 or 3 years ago ...

Muirmaiden watching it as a kid at the time I didn't notice the obvious stage sets, etc. I loved it.
I wondered why I couldn't find the first movie in this series.
After productions like "Anne"3&4 (i.e. Lara Croft of Green Gables) I find this 1975, musicless performance remarkably easy to view. ^_^
@Mussenley
agreed! oh do u know where i can watch Anne of Green Gables? i want 2 watch it so much! X*C
Wow I can't believe I forgot the E LOL!!!! That was a typo,honest.... After watching the whole BBC series you are right this is closest to the books. The newer ones are better acting, but the storylines are not as true to the books..
i need the mp3 of the theme!!!
It's a ''Downloader'' ... I live in south America ... Ares is one of the program we use to download stuff ... There are probably others whre you are ...
@sweetTBag In my opinion a theartre production tends to have a more earthy feel then the over the glossy movie style.
Yes, what is it with the accents? I'm curious as to where they are from, or if they're only put on, as was more common from that time.
Is there more somewhere??
@rrrullgardina yea, i've been searching for the one with Megan Follows and Johnathan Crombie but this is the only full one i can find :/
butcher the storyline? the talent of the actors between this production and the Sullivan one is debatable, but this BBC version pretty much covers the first three books exactly. @nixonladydi Here Here.
marrila cufburd is also in road to avenly
LMM use to live in my apartment.
Mrs Bugle from RTA playing Marilla, ick.
после фильма Sullivan с Megan Follows этот не воспринимается.
I wonder if the people commenting on the actors' looks are American, because, frankly, I cannot think what people are expecting: Angels? What exactly is wrong with the actor's looks? Megan Follows wasn't exactly the most good-looking of women, and she made the most brilliant Anne.

@rrrullgardina
I think he's attractive. He looks very English. In a way, he reminds me of Holden Snyder from "As the World Turns."
@Mussenley
sry 2 boter u but wats ares
this is wrong!!! marilla and mrs. lynde should switch actresses
anne in avenlea deutsch
I think Gil is cute in a way.
@rrrullgardina
haha ik. poor guy!
Valerie, you're blind. Megan is gorgeous!
LOL! Remember Timothy Cotton?...He had consumption. When he wasn't stealin'.
AH! !!??Marilla??!!
Megan is so real ... to me there'll never be other Anne but her.
Im sorry guys but this was years before The best AOGG movies came out so give the actors some credit for creating their roles! Although Megan and the other cast members from 1985 were so much better :)

WHAT IS THIS
Is that marilla isn't she skinny in the book Anne looks like 26 and Mrs. Lynn in the book she was fat
I love Anne of Green Gables, BUT I
What is this😂😂😂
so ugy gilbert
Scottish Canadians? Lol.
wasnt lynde fat and marilla skinny? ijs
Couldn't they have found a more attractive cast?
Weird...stupid auto type...
Agree, Megan Follows was a wonderful Anne. I also prefer the other Marilla. Damn, all the cast of Anne of Green Gables are better than the ones playing here.
the production values in this are totally whack
Omg she's like 40
I just watched Ann of Green Gables with Megan Follows...this is a sad disappointment
I just watched Ann of Green Gables with Megan Follows...this is asad disappointment
oh God this is so.....awful. just....bad.
Mmmhhh, Anne looks way too old... not like a sixteen-year-old at all....
Ruby talks weird,,,, these people have stange & kinda annoying accents :P
What's with the wired accent? Is it suppose to be a southern or western accent? Terrible!
It feels more like a theater production than a movie. It feels kinda fake.
wtf kind of Anne is this? this is upsetting
Anne is a bit uppity in this one. She looks at least 22. It's a good production, but Megan Follows is much better.
megan follows is a better anne shirley
the accents are terrible, especially from Anne
This is so bad compared to the kevin sullivan adaption! My goodness...
... terrible. Really really bad. She sound so fake... The version with Megan Follows is the only good adaptation I have see... Books are so wonderful... :(
